I love watching your videos I was born and raised in Wyoming I live in Arizona now but Thank you for keeping this site to yourself. I know everyone here loves rock hunting but I feel bad because have you been to the blue forest lately it is so dug up its sad to see what people do and most of it is not from residents. So once again Thank you Wyoming Stone Ranger keep the Videos coming
This was a lot of fun, thank you! 😊 Slight correction though, petrified wood is a fossil. Permineralization, the process of minerals replacing organic material, is the same in fossil bones.
Great video! In 1982, I did a backcountry hike in Yellowstone NP. Started at West Thumb of Yellowstone lake. Hiked around the southern end of the lake. Forded the Yellowstone River as it entered the lake. Then hiked up the western slope of Table Mountain. Halfway to the top, I encountered a forest of petrified wood. Hundreds of large trees, still upright standing like stone sentinels. Just an amazing place. Of course what I did was totally against park rules. Also remember black sand beaches along the lake.
WHOA!!!! I had no idea there was such a wonderful place with beautiful specimens of Petrified Wood. We come to Wyoming often to look for petrifed wood, mainly Blue Forest and Big Sandy. This place looks like heaven to me. You are my new Favorite UA-camr. Very informative and your voice is so calming. I would be screaming with joy with all you have found. Thank-you so much for sharing.
I quite enjoyed your video. I was born and raised in Wyoming and have always come back after having moved away for one reason or the other. We live in Hudson (Between Lander and Riverton) and are always out and about rockhounding this beautiful state but I've NEVER seen petrified wood like this before. If you would like to trade rockhounding locations, let me know.🔨🔨
Amazing video. I’ve been to the Blue Forest for rock hounding. But nothing there was as big as what you saw. Can you share more details about where this is?
Wow! That place is amazing. My wife and I live in Cody and have been collecting for many years mainly in the Cody area. We have been to the Petrified forests in Az. Ut. and of course Yellowstone, none of these places allow collecting. We have never seen a spot like this where there is such large amounts of wood exposed other than the 3 petrified forests I mentioned. I know you said it’s on BLM lane in central Wy.and I can’t blame you for not wanting to give away your secrets but can you possibly give me a city with a blm office in that area? I can then call that office and see if a geologist might know? An area with that amount of Petrified wood on blm land that you can drive up to I’m sure a lot of locals would be aware of and I would think a geologist for blm would know about it. Any info would help. Keep up the good work. I saw your post on the blue forest but that looks like way to much work for me. I’m 76 and you just might have to fill in the dirt and bury me if I had to dig a hole that deep at my age or maybe we will go there and look around the stuff others have dug out. We are both retired and have lots of time now so just looking for things to do.Thanks again
I will tell about any place you want to know about for finding Wyoming rocks. Hit me up on my channel. I have no problem sharing spots to find rocks in Wyoming. Lived in Wyoming for 42 years hunting rocks.
@@wyomingstoneranger2920 no we live in Washington but want to plan a trip to Yellowstone next year. Been through there a lot traveling coast to coast while I was in the Army. dont thing the wind ever stops there lol
Hi Stone Ranger! My kids and I are just getting into rockhounding (we homeschool). We live in the Chugwater area. I understand if you don't want to give this site away, but is there a resource you can recommend to us for reference? Thank you!
Hi Stone Ranger, do you plan to polish any of those pieces, sure would like to see inside. BTW the notification bell next to the subscribe place does not work for me, when I try to activate it it wont stay on.

Hey there. Did you find the petrified wood near Saratoga? I have been told there is petrified wood nearby, but I haven’t found it. Thank you!
I did not. There are many places in Wyoming to find petrified wood.
Would you be so kind as to send me directions on how to get to this area sir? I live in Colorado and would love to check it out!

Where is this place? I'm visiting family in Wyoming this summer. I would love make this a stop in my trip.
What part of Wyoming will you be visiting? There are some good books out there that will direct you as well. I do not have a list myself.
How close to Eden Wyoming? We acquired around 4 tone of Black Forest wood but no limbs that size lol
A long way from Eden
Is this near Wamsutter, or are you keeping the location " secret" lol, I notice you aren't saying where this is.
How long have you been searching for things? Is there a history about the forest? Thank you
I have been hunting rocks my whole life thanks to my dad who dragged us around kicking rocks when I was young
On that first really long log you showed is that a limb coming off the side at 5:35? Nice place.
I don’t think that is a limb coming off of the trunk think it is just part of the trunk itself that has slid away
Hey Ken! 👋😊
Great video I really enjoyed it. Subscribed and Liked. Where in Wyoming is this, if I may ask
It is in Central Wyoming. Do you live in Wyoming

No. But I have been to the Blue Forest
Where is this location?

There is a book called Rockhounding Wyoming that I use all the time. You should be able to find it on eBay or Amazon
