The vast majority of the "investors" are checked out boomers that just ticked a box to auto deposit into their 401ks etc. They have zero control as they would have to get all their peers in their particular investment program to get their reps to actually vote on the board. This will never happen as the time sink exceeds the perceived benefit from such a paralyzing volume of busy/disinterested parties.

It’s pretty obvious at this point. The last few months have made that clear. The problem is they are hiring political activists to make games now. Not game developers. They are using video games as one sided propaganda for their cause and it’s been proven that these developers and the shills who defend this, do this for political reasons. They aren’t gamers or developers. They are activists. It’s not about making fun games to them. It’s about pushing their ideology.
I’m done with mainstream youtubers pretending like this isn’t part of the issue. It plays a big part into the issue as their ideology promotes poor work ethic, which leads to more unpolished games. Their ideology promotes censorship and sensitivity which leads to worse stories and lore, Their ideology promotes ESG, Which leads to people who have talent getting bullied out of the studio and blacklisted from the industry. Their ideology talks all about "equity" Which leads to very scummy SBMM/EOMM systems that force players all to be at the same skill level no matter what. They also make it their duty to make sure everyone agrees with their political leanings and they feel like its their duty to promote such leanings in anything they make. Because they treat it like a religion. All of this and more, Causes media to be worse.

Its clear the only reason people defend this state of gaming, is because the game is pushing the political leanings they align with. Most of these where the same types of people who went onto r/gamingcirclejerk and complained about games in the 2000s, being all action shooters for white men. Which is further from the truth, gaming was always diverse back in the day, Always had new stories and characters of all different backgrounds to experience. These people never played games, they just took a glance at the genre, made an assumption and than summarized the entire genre as problematic without even experiencing it. Because they only ever saw the medium as a place to subvert.
The truth is that the people who defend the state of the industry right now, is because bad games that get made agrees with their political leanings. These people talk about how much they don't like capitalism yet they support and contribute to big companies with stores full of microtransactions that have the same value as nfts that seek to milk as much money from players as possible.
But despite all of this. I think things are starting to change, With people being more aware of this now and the people straw manning not having as much power as they once did. The lengths they have to go to defend their unstable foundation is really telling, they have to pay off journalists, influencers and youtubers to shill their games and to make new defenses for them, They buy bot accounts to give positive tweets or comments to their games, They have to censor community forums to hide any negative feedback (343 has done this for years). If they have to do all of this, Than it shows they are losing and that people are getting fed up with the state of things.

This reminds me of the biblical story of Cain and Abel. Both were brothers who offered to God. Abel’s offering was received, Cain’s was rejected. I play video games solely for fun, and the point of video games is to escape what reality is. I play games to challenge my thinking abilities, explore creativity, and dive into story plots that the game creators write, not to listen to someone’s political agenda.

I never understood the NEED to feel represented, I just simply want to play the game because it interests me and such.
I have felt pride when it came to something like King from Tekken because he's a dope character to play, and him representing us is great to the fighting game.
It's nice to be represented with respect, but you don't NEED to represent if it's not part of the story. So long as the writing is great and the game is fun, it'll will be seen as a great overall game.

I'm a 50 year old black gamer. I've been there since the beginning of coin-op games and the Atari 2600. I never had a problem with 99.9% of video games through the ages. There just wasn't a problem. We were gamers and that was it. Now it's mainstreamed and people who hate gamers control the industry.

I'm 32 and love playing old games still from the 90s and 2000s. Even older games sometimes. What I love is that the indie game scene has been making some really awesome modern/retro throwback games. "Dusk,"for example, is a quake/doom like fps that I ended up beating like 10 times! It was that good. No bs. Just pure fps bliss!

Gaming and fantasy are two formerly nerdy interests that are proof that gatekeeping is absolutely necessary for any community. I've been a gamer since the early '90s (I started watching my brother play Mario and Zelda on the NES and then later SMW and LttP when I was a toddler) and have been a fantasy/sci-fi reader since the late '90s. I was fine with dudebros getting into gaming, mostly because they tended to play CoD and other FPS games, which left ~95% of the market still catering to gamers. Fast forward twenty years, and a bunch of activists who not only don't know anything about gaming or its history (imagine claiming that video games have been catering towards white men when the most successful consoles of the last forty years have virtually all come from Japan, the biggest and most well known franchises are from Japanese developers, the biggest innovations came from Japanese companies etc) but who seem to actively hate everything about the hobby and community demand that the industry change itself fundamentally to cater to them AND SUCCEED.
When someone claims to be a fan of something and is asked about this or that, the intention is not to exclude those who are ignorant but to look for common experiences to share. The correct response is not "uHmMm ExCuSe Me?!?? aRe YoU sAyInG i'M nOt A tRuE fAn?!?" but "oh, I've never heard of that. Can you tell me about it?" I can't tell you how many times I've found a gem because someone asked if I've played it. Gatekeeping serves to exclude people who are actively disinterested in the hobby they claim to enjoy, as someone who gets offended when another person tries to share something with them very clearly does not want to join other people, but to invade a space and change it to fit his or herself.
The same thing has been happening in fantasy, with it accelerating massively with the release of Amazon's garbage Wheel of Time series and Rings of Power. You suddenly have people who actively dislike the source material not only claiming that decades old fandoms are toxic, racist, sexist etc but also making bullshit claims about the "true meaning" of the work, particularly with authors who are no longer around to defend their work (like Tolkien, a conservative Catholic, and Robert Jordan, who described himself as a "libertarian monarchist"). They insert their own modern beliefs into works created years or decades ago, and claim they they're improving it. They then claim that "X has also been progressive," when that's simply not the case, but even if it was that doesn't mean that the authors and creators would agree with them.
This has been happening to a lesser extent in sports, but most of that has just been messaging on jerseys and fields, which is easily ignored. Larger scale demonstrations, like players kneeling during the anthem, are regularly booed, but those fans are still paying up to a few hundred dollars a ticket to support the team.
If you're into playing older games do yourself a favour and look into "Retroachievements".
The reason this won’t last in gaming long term is because you will NEVER force gamers to buy something they don’t want. This isn’t Hollywood or television where all the money has already changed hands before the viewership starts. You can just not buy a video game or get a refund.

An ex-girlfriend once joined me playing an MMO. She had terrible gear. But she liked it because it looked good. The fights were a carry and neither of us were having much fun. So we played a pokemon like online game, there was crossbreeding and competitions. I bred for the best stats, she went for the cutest creations. It was a lot more fun for us both.
A genuine lack of genre diversity amongst these companies is my biggest issue. Where are the hack and slash, 3d platformers, arcade sports and racing, shoot em ups, beat em ups, the list goes on. Sony almost exclusively makes 3rd person open world cinematic games and is leaning towards marvel ips.
Xbox is going to start relying on cod, fallout, elder scrolls.
These games dont always appeal to everyone once upon a time the aaa industry gave us a variety, there was always something for everyone. Now there are certain core demographics being catered to and ignoring everyone else.
Also i genuinely think we have been given so much garbage that gamers will take an average or mediocre game that launches complete or without microtransactions and say it deserves game of the year. Mechanics, level design, what content makes up the game, dialogue and character writing, none of that matters anymore.

The original Final Fantasy VII was a masterpiece and a huge part of my childhood. It's what really got me into reading, writing, and gaming. I think I was around eight at the time it came out, and I was so mesmerized by the story and interesting characters. I remember writing my first fanfic (I didn't know that's what it was called at the time) in 3rd grade for a school assignment. It was about Cloud and I think Jesse, if I remember correctly. So when I found out they were doing a remake, I was elated, thinking it would be exactly like the FF7 I grew up with, but with updated graphics.
I don't know if I've ever been as disappointed in a game as I was with the FF7 remake. To be honest, I only played for a few hours before I quit. It was just so boring and felt so small and flat in comparison to the original. Also side note, why are all the NPCs dressed in normal everyday clothing? The main characters had the same interesting outfits they used to, but everyone else was dressed in modern clothing, which bothered me way more than it should have.

This just makes me stick to cheaper indie games even more. Even if Steam does somehow screw me (which seems very unlikely), I can get my value from those games very quickly, especially when they're 5-15 dollars.

First off so I don’t come off as rude, I’d just like to say that your content has changed my life so much. You’re the reason I started waking up at five AM, stated to stop wining, work as hard as I could in school to get a maintainable future, made new friends and become a lot less shy, focus on my appearance, and most importantly, work out. I don’t know I’d be today with out you so thank you so much. However in your newest video you mentioned that girls love Zelda and, In my experience, I haven’t found any girls that like Zelda. After the release of Twilight Princess, Zelda’s popularity slowly dwindled to obscurity, or at least to the public. After the release of BOTW/TOTK, Zelda has blown up back into popularity and has brought several new fans. This also brought in a lot of girls into Zelda but not I the traditional sense. They would have to already have been playing games because a lot of girls played Zelda because “Link was hot”. For TOTK you did have Gannondorf which definitely did bring some girls in, but not as much as if it were Link. Granted I am exclusively talking about irl, it may be different in other places, and I’m only 17 so it does limit my perspective. Online there are tons of girls that love Zelda as much as I do. I just wanted to clear things up because that lead to a lot of being made fun of for many years in school and feeling like something was wrong with me because of the games I like. (BTW for modern games Ignore everything else and spread democracy my fellow helldivers!)
You sound really young. As someone around TBYS' age (I think a few years older), I can attest that women my/our generation are indeed fans of Zelda.
It may be different for you because the games are different. The mainline games BotW/TotK are open-world with little to no focus on story or characters. Age of Calamity has more of a focus on BotW, yet it's more action-oriented which is probably a turnoff. And the Link's Awakening Remake isn't quite the same. Technically there's also ports on NSO, but those don't get much attention/marketing push.
But "Back in my day" in a 10 year period we had like, OoT, MM, and WW. All of which have an engrossing story, and _prominent_ colourful characters. In the Switch generation, you have to go out of your way to find them. And that's not even talking about Twilight Princess. Hoo boy did girls have the hots for Link then, when they made him look more masculine, and shirtless in a few scenes (or at least the Goron wrestling scene). But I'm guessing girls your age might not be as interested because how they make Zelda games has changed a lot.
@@mrshmuga9 I see where you’re coming from. After reading the comment I did sound pretty young nut that was because I had only gotten 20 minutes of sleep for two nights because of school. I’m currently 17 so what It’s like any where older than what I am I’m wouldn’t know because I don’t talk to people (irl) anywhere out side of that range. I was born in 2006 so I only really have to go on from breath of the wild to now. And I also think that it’s because, for a while, Zelda was pretty obscure or at least to the public. I was also talking about exclusively irl because you can find tons of girls online that likes Zelda. I have found girls irl that like Zelda but they were… special, to put it nicely. @@SonicAtomic It’s fine. I’m not even saying you’re wrong, just explaining why there’s likely a difference between your and his/my experiences. I’ll add that, even in real life when I was in grade/high school, while it was rare to find a girl into games, the ones that did were usually into Zelda. It wasn’t just online (although that obviously increases the chances).

For PC users physical media has been dead for basically 15-20 years now. People have been buying less and less physical media on everything except Nintendo. The Japanese audiences tend to prefer more physical than western audiences. Some games have always been super buggy
As a woman, I can confirm that Stardew Valley is the only game that I am always willing to play with my boyfriend every time he asks to. And all I do is fish and walk around giving people gifts, and I am content.

So he is kinda right in the staitment that Stardewvalley was made for woman because it kinda is by the majority of people who will most likely pick it up. So it doesn’t make sense to NOT be sensitive to these sort of ideas to get new eyes on the series (or retain old eyes on the series).

The fact that the people at SBI are on record saying how they feel about gamers, that's all I need to know about their agenda, and it's not to make games better. They hate the core audience, and they see no reason not to sleight us at every turn.
Boycott SBI and anyone else who uses forced DEI at the expense of the product, and especially the ones who openly hate the core consumer. THEY are the reason they're losing money, but as per usual, rather than take accountability and accept they've done something wrong, they blame the consumer instead, and keep shoveling the ground beneath their feet while doing so.
