    Nice video Matt. I would add a couple items - small first aid kit and pain reliever, small survival kit (firestarter, emergency foil blanket, multitool or knife), possibly a self-retrieval strap set like Green Chile, or tow strap. Second the zip ties/duct tape/electrical tape and mini-headlamp suggestions as well!

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  7 місяців тому +2

      Yeah, a quality first aid kit with a tourniquet, and know how to use it. Missed that one. I didn't want to get too deep into the toolkit, that could be a lengthy video onnits own. Cheers.

    A Handy (Walkie Talkie) radio, ranchers, police , border patrol, 4x4s, SAR etc. use them so you can reach someone near you. A LED emergency light (beacon) that flashes red in different patterns, helps to be found at night, the one I have comes with an integrated whistle also useful. A plastic hammer. Spare engine oil.

    • @advmatt

      All great items for a moto kit. I really like the LED emergency light. Thanks.

    As an older guy, I find lifting a loaded bike rather challenging. I always take along some lifting straps like these: ua-cam.com/video/ktchO2SZUuE/v-deo.html

    • @advmatt

      Nifty little lifting setup. Good thing to have with you and takes up little space.

      Sweet, that is why I like my 390. I ripped a tendon off on my bicep lifting my old KLR. Cramps/balls up something terrible sometimes when using it.

    I carry 3/4 of a gallon of water and there is a life straw attached to the side of my pack. I also recommend a trauma medical pack in your pack that is on your body that has some form of pain reliever like aspirin, or Tylenol. It should also contain quick clot, self administer-able tourniquet and a pack of different size sterile pads. You can always secure the pads with duct tape.

    • @advmatt

      Great items to add. I carry a tourniquet on me as well, strapped to the outside of my hydration. My medical kit is my pannier but I need to move it to my backpack. Thanks.

    Hello, Matt. The hikers ten essentials kit always works on a motorcycle, and we also need tools and a few basic parts and tools specific to your motorcycle, as you have discussed here. As an experienced hiker and motorcyclist new to off road travel, know the limits to your riding ability.

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  6 місяців тому

      I totally agree. I have separate videos on solo adventure moto travel and I always say ride at no more than 60% of you ability when alone. Leave some in reserve if things get bad and don't push it. Ride for tomorrow. Cheers.

    I think you have to be a little more careful with the "jump start" packs if you have a lithium-ion battery vs lead-acid.

    Alot of good info here. I do most the same. I like to keep a sawer squeeze water filter with their bag. 550ml titanium cookpot with brs 3000t stove. (Emergency coffee kit or extra water purification) a lifestraw could be a good substitute for the sawer squeeze

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  7 місяців тому

      I also carry a water filter for emergency use. Emergency coffee, love it. I will be adding a little bit to my survival kit just in case.

    97.% of my riding is covered by cell service, so instead of using a ELB, I use a Land Air Sea 54 GPS Tracker that uses both satellite and cell phone service, it cost $20, has a battery that last 30 days between charges, can be permanently wired and mounted, is web based which allows loved ones to check in on your progress or it can be shared with law enforcement/fire/EMS who can start to search for you from your last reported location. But is not a replacement for and ELB if you do not have cell service.
    Thanks for posting Matt. Greatly appreciated.

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  7 місяців тому

      Those beacons are pretty good, but even out east I had stretches without cell service. That surprised me. Out west, no service will be the norm in the backcountry. Cheers.

    Not a must have, but I carry a piece of fabric 1yd x 1yd for keeping parts clean when doing repairs and changing tubes. I use a piece of shower curtain. Takes up no space and is waterproof.

    • @advmatt

      Great piece of kit. I carry a small piece of tarp for the same reason.

  • @jimpartin1144

    I would add cable ties, electrical tape and duct tape wrapped around one of the tools. I only carry tools required to remove wheels in case of a flat that I can’t fix with a plug. Generally, those tools are the same that can be used for most of the fasteners on the bike.

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  7 місяців тому +1

      Those are good items to add to a toolkit. I carry those items as well. I have cable ties to reattach my windscreen. Great reminder to add these pieces.

    Hi Matt, did you change something on your video format settings recently (like frame rate, container, codec etc.)? The last video I still can watch on my media center (OSMC with UA-cam add-on) is "Sheepskin seat cover..." The ones coming afterwards do not work anymore, however they still work fine on my computer or my mobile phone.

    • @advmatt

      I have been rendering the videos the same as I have been for the past two years. I am using the same editing software. I am not sure. The video resolution has stayed the same as well.

    Great advice, especially about the need to carry water. Even in Europe, you probably won’t die of thirst but being seriously dehydrated can affect your ability to ride.

  • @Sixbears
    @Sixbears 7 місяців тому +2

    I carry all that -on a scooter. I'm training for the Scooter Cannonball and practicing on a lot of dirt. Lots of back country riding. I would add spare gas. A closed road made me backtrack 100 miles. Good thing I had a spare gallon as I ran out in the middle of nowhere.

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  7 місяців тому

      Spare gas is a great idea. I usually carry an extra gallon riding in the western states. Gas stations can be over 100 miles apart. I never pass a station when I approach half a tank for that reason. Scooter cannonball run sounds fun. Good luck.

    I carry the same items! Also, for tire punctures, Nealey's tire repair kit is ridiculously easy to use. Used it once, tire is still solid 4k mi later.
    What trips do you have planned btw? Norcal BDR?

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  7 місяців тому +1

      So far riding to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument at the end of the month. I will catch section one of AZBDR while I down there. Big Bend National Park at the end of March. April will probably be something closer to home, first half of NMBDR, still haven't finished it yet. I am thinking this summer I might do a BDR sampler. One to two sections of COBDR, WYBDR, UTBDR, IDBDR, NVBDR, WABDR, ORBDR and NOCALBDR. It will be a three week trip or so. I want to cover some distance and sample a bit of it all. I need to look into this Nealey Tire repair kit. Thanks for the tip.

    I carry everything you listed except the Micro Start. Good tip there. I always have jumper cables with me but they won’t help me if I’m solo and in a remote area.
    Something that always goes with me is a robust 1st Aid kit, to include an emergency splint, tourniquet, and blood clotting agent.
    Honestly, you could do separate vids on just the tool kit and another on a 1st Aid kit.

    • @advmatt
