Ben Espanto the line should go directly from the spool, through the line guide that has the ceramic ring on it. If it’s rubbing a metal bar it is not correct bud.

I have curado DC. curado k. several Lew's reels from 100 to 300$ and as far as castability and just overall performance the SLX imo is the best budget reel out there! And as far as the brakes go it comes out of the box with three on and three off and that's the way I've left it. again that's the 8.2.1 on pitching and flipping setup so not really going for long cast with it but my buddy has the 7.2.1 on a spinnerbait/ ChatterBait setup and it casts long and smooth!
which rod do you recommend for this? I’m a fairly a new beginner and we fish upstate New York. Bass may be biggest 5 to 6 pounds not all the time though.
It will pair well with the SLX baitcasting rods. I’m very happy with the Curado casting rods as well although they are more money. New Clarus rods are awesome as well for the money. When picking one for bass in NT State look for an all purpose rod like a 7’ - 7’2” Medium Heavy Power with Fast Action. Those should be available in all of the mentioned rod lines.
I have one break on and can’t seem to cast far. It seems like I still have breaks on even tho all of them are off. I’ve used many bait casters and I’m not a stranger to shimano braking systems it’s just I can’t figure out what’s going on. I’ve cleaned it and re oiled it 3 times and still doesn’t cast far. Any words of advice?
hey, I got a question so I tried using it this weekend. I gave up on it right away but when I cast it, I’m just so used to putting my thumb on the spool very lightly but it started to give me a birds nest. Nothing crazy I was able to untangle it quick but do you think it’s because I had my thumb on it and should I just cast and let it go? I haven’t tried that at all. I was just so frustrated. I gave up on it and used a spinning reel
How are your brake pads set up? Sounds like things are far too loose between the brakes and the spool tension knob if it’s backlashing that easily. Also, the smoothness of your casting motion will also affect that. If it’s jerky, that will make it almost impossible to cast.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors I tried it all different ways flipping the brakes and actually, you know that little button that you flip to access the brakes? Well, that button failed so I’m actually returning it for exchange I cannot put it in the locked position. I was also using 10 pound braid. I don’t know if that’s played a factor also
Hey JP, so I picked this combo up, got half off the rod for buying the reel couldnt say no. I asked for help from an employee of the rod, I wanted this for a jig/frog rod. I'm a weekend warrior so I unfortunatly I dont have a rod for every different bait. The shop guy told me to get the 7'10 for pitching and flipping and frogging so I went for it but now I'm thinking I went for too long of a rod. What do you think? It does fit in my car, just barely but it does I just fear it might be overkill for my lifestyle or fishing style? Also if I'm trying to walk the frog I think I might keep tapping the water with the rod tip cause its so long? thinking maybe I should see if I can exchange it for a 7'6?
Not to thread-jack or cast any disrespect to JP DeRose but if you watch Tactical Bassin' on UA-cam Matt Allen and Tim Little love this reel/rod. Tim said the 7'2" H/F makes a great frog rod!
@@JPDeRoseOutdoorsI got mine for throwing jerkbaits. I burned up 2 spinning reels this last year walleye fishing throwing #11&13 jerkbaits and I thought the 6.1 would be great for that.

Have 5 of them, you need to loosen the tension knob in order to close the side plate and have the little knob go into the “close” position. Hope this helps
Honestly have never used these, I have the chronarchs from like 2012-2013 ish (the white and black ones) I think they had VBS… never used the brakes just tightened the spool and used my thumb as needed… How do these work? What exactly are they needed for?! I learned on an abu Garcia my dad gave me… looked like a winch I think it was made in the 1970’s 😂… you used your thumb RIGHT before that lire hit the water. @@CatTrashRacing very much so. The more you have Active the better the control but as all braking systems work, you sacrifice distance for the added overrun protection.
Both are great reel but the Curado is a higher end reel with a few key pieces of technology that help with power and torque like X-Ship and the Micro Module Brass gear and the extra bearings also improve smoothness.
Are you adjusting the spool tension knob to match the spool speed to the weight of the lure ? Could also be your casting flow causing the issue if you have a late release or a hitch in your casting movement
He's using a 1/2 oz. bait - so what if it throws that 167 feet! Then I may become a believer. Until then - big deal. I can throw a 1/2 oz. bait 160+ feet (+50 yds) without backlash with all my baitcaster combos. Just sayin... What I can't do is throw a weightless soft plastic bait with a BC reel very well. Or very far. Yeah, yeah I know - try a a spinning rod, but I want to be able to use a BC because they are made for bass fishing and the advantages of a BC over a spinning rig for bass are numerous.

How about after months of use, the brake block pin can get wear or not?
