I am just ecstatic!!!! I LOVE them so much!! They are part of my childhood forever... Only 5477 views... The world doesn't know what they're missing...
My favorite thing about this video is the least likely thing. In 2:09 Esther asks "למה עשית את זה?"-"Lama asita et ze?"-"Why did you do it?". Supposedly, nothing special. However, there are so few recordings of Hebrew being casually spoken from that era. Most is just broadcasters or politicians speaking very formally. This sentence sounded exactly like it would today, almost 6 decades later.
I stumbled on to these two accidentally, by looking for a spanish song "el condor", it was Esther's eyes and voice in that video that captivated me...her voice is just so....soothing!....since then, I have been obsessed. ...I am a Catholic American and have never heard of them....how do they know so many languages?....they do german, spanish and french perfectly! What other duo or singer can do that and with such diversity. ..
+jokerswildio As a singing team in the early 60's they also did covers of some American folk songs during the Beatnik era and she would wear a black turtle neck with hair bangs and a flip like Barbra Streisand / she does have a beautiful flowing but haunting old soul singing voice as in the folksong ""Wanderlove" or Wander love by Mason Williams is haunting and beautiful and a lighter version of the same song sung by Claudine Longet
They used to be quite famous and performed in the US...however as of 5-4-18 Abi Ofarim died in Munich, Germany. Still love listening to her voice, esp when younger like this one. She has such a lovely voice.
The Spanish song is called "Anda jaleo" a traditional Andalusian song compiled and recorded by Federico García Lorca un 1931, who made the arrangements and played piano too. The singer was La Argentinita. It was published in a record called "Canciones populares españolas".
To the right and left, just sand and sand, yellow desert without a path. A caravan passes, moving silently, like a dream there, so strange. The tinkling of bells rises and falls rhythmically. Camels plodding through a depressing landscape. Lin Lan Lin Lan, this is the song of the wanderer, to carry without a murmur, beat the drum and march on. Herom vachol, yamin usmol Yatzhiv midbar le'lo mish'ol Rak kav, kif'at ye'arim kchad Tzilo al peney ha'ofek yat Orkcha overa, orkcha na'ah Kidmoot kchalom sham mufla'ah Hed tzlil oleh, yored katzuv Gmalim pos'im be'nof atzuv hoo, hoo... Ze akchar ze, yishrey pesia'ah Ke'kchorshey nir, yekchtzu tzia Lin-lan lin-lan, mi'yam el yam Kol ni'ah kal, kol tza'ad tam Shma'h kol ha'tzlil, ke'tzav matok Halokch us'et, halokch ushtok Lin-lan lin-lan, ze shir handod Rak kal litz'od, rak kal litz'od rak kal litz'od hoo, hoo...
So how was it that two ISRAELI singers, born in the same town, Tsfat, spend most of their career together in Europe, and Abi... at least... remained there and still lives in Germany. Very strange, to me, anyway, to hear him speaking German. Well, you know... considering... what happened there... 20+ years before.
-I was listening to this incredible duo in the 1960s. Then they seemed to disappear. I am so glad to find them here on UA-cam.
I can only echo what has been said before about these amazingly talented people, thank you for posting.

It's crazy - they're speaking English, German, Hebrew and God knows what else and playing flamenco music.
Great! One of the best music-duos of music-history!
Love this song. So far I found it twice on two different albums. Everytime I go vinyl shopping I name drop them hoping to find a new treasure 💎
Great singing, they were great even rehearsing.
Es berührt meine Seele ,Abi meine liebe, auch nach so langer zeit für immer ♥️ Regine

Both finally in bright Flamenco-mood, and unbelievable lively, aren't they ?
Avi is dead in 1918. Pity. But to remember them as a nice vokal couple.

Hi I'm a great fan of the Ofarims
Can you tell me what happened 20 years before and why they split up?
Regards
Shows you things change and one do not need to remain bitter?
He died a few days ago... so doesnt live any longer! RIP Abi!
What does Esther say at 4:17?
she says "but it's not important" :)
Aber auch für viele Deutsche, z.B. für Tom Kannmacher!
זמרת גדולה מצויינת יחד עם בן זוגה
ארץ ישראל היפה של פעם בטרם הפיתון נתניהו התלפף סביבה וחנק אותה
TERRIFIC !!!!
