  • This is one of the CHEAPEST options for securing the battery on your Travel Trailer or RV. It provides peace of mind and is simple enough that anyone can do it.
The $7 battery lock is good but can be cut with snips. Might as well take it one step further and put a thicker metal strap on it for only $5 which will be a lot harder to cut with tin snips.

What this really boils down to is that if someone really wants to steal something, they can. What we can do is our best in preventing the theft. Here is a some of the causes for people to steal from you:
    - They see an easy target and nothing is detering them.
    - They happen to be passing by and think they can get away quickly.
    - The target is out of sight and they have a lot of time to complete the task.
    - They think they can sell/pawn it as they are short on cash.
    - All of the above.
    - The above and more!

Perfect thank you. Just saw locking bars for $175 on amazon and I thought "this is not a lot of metal material, I bet there's a cheaper way" and here you are with a simple solution! Going to HF today to get mine for my new travel trailer

I just did this to my battery case. Worked perfect.
$7 for metal ruler, (Harbor Freight) 10-15 minutes to bend, drill hole and done.
Thanks for showing this DIY hack. 👍😎

This is really great. I used a Stealth Bar rather than aluminum, and also I place the strap below the lid. That way I’m able to pop off the lid and easily service the battery if I need to

if someone is walking around with a grinder, yours or the other persons isn't going to work. but, i do like the both ideas. most thieves are LAZY. they see this and move on. i'm going to try yours today.

Great idea, but, the thief with the cutting wheel wouldn’t have any issues with this either. Just thankful thieves don’t walk around with electric tools in their pockets. I need to do this.

Yup it wouldn't take much to get the battery if someone really wanted it but most thieves are opportunistic. This makes it harder so hopefully they'd just move on rather than put in the effort. Happy travels!

Interesting.. can an older female make this? I'm trying to find a way to lock my battery box so I can keep the battery on the trailer without it being stolen.. wanted a locking box but having trouble locating what I want..

Yes I think that just about anyone would be able to make this. The aluminum bends easy but could need a little bit of force for some of the tighter bends. Good luck! Happy travels!

Not as cheap. But you can put a chain around it and lock that.

brittle material, won't last, and looks awful. invest in a flat bar and do bend it properly.
