Well, I liked Headline Chasers because, even if you lost the game, which we did, you got to keep whatever money you accumulated during the show. Also, my timing was spot on. They were in need of contestants when the show was still fairly new, and I think from the time I contacted them until the day we actually taped the show, it was only a few weeks. Everything happened quickly. And I have seen Wink since. I did a runthrough for another game show he came up with, and in 1999 I interviewed Wink on the radio. I was doing a live broadcast from Pasadena and Wink came out in person to guest on the show, and his lovely wife Sandy came along too. Very nice people.
The People magazine cover where they had to guess the famous face, the clue should have been "Mackenzie's step-mother." Mackenzie's mother was Susan Adams - John Phillips' first wife. If this episode had been on four years later, they could have had the clue "Chynna's mother." Looking at the end credits, producer John Tobyansen was the executive producer of The Joker's Wild on CBS from 1972 to early 1975. Contestant coordinator Esther Furst held that same job during Joker's CBS years.
@@markheying2830 Headline Chasers was a couples show, and Karen was my wife at that time, so we appeared on the show together. We didn't do any other couples or team shows together. Since then, all my game show appearances have been solo, including my Showcase win earlier this season on The Price is Right.
@@jokerswildfan1972 Yes, Wink is a very nice person. We did talk during commercial breaks. They taped five shows in a day, and our episode was taped after the dinner break, so we talked about the Italian food that was served.
You did your best. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Downloaded on my Birthday!
Up in northern CA, where Merv Griffin came from, this was on KRON in San Francisco and KXTV in Sacramento.
I just watched your run on "Couch Potatoes" and UA-cam led me to this! LOL This show was a cluster but I'm glad you were able to win something!

The only game show in which its theme sounds like a Santana tune.
Johnny and Wink together again...they were on a show called Tic tac dough

@@thetalkingarchive4795 People do seem to move around in the game show world.
The section that was picked for the Headline Extra was the wrong one. I had trouble with this one.
I don't remember headline chasers being picked up in Monroe Louisiana!
It was nationally syndicated, so it aired across the country, but not sure about Monroe, LA.
Do you remember if you would almost always choose Karen to be your Partner whenever you go on any Team Show?

@@reedberryAlso we’re you 1 of the first 4 Contestants or the very last Contestant?
@@markheying2830 On The Price is Right, I was the next to the last contestant called, and the last to get up on stage with Drew.
Did the losing couple get to keep their money?
Yes.
@@reedberry cool! Was Wink Martindale a nice guy off camera? Did you get to talk to him between parts of the show, or did he have to do other things?

"Candid Camera"?
Do you have any idea how long you & Karen were still together?
@@markheying2830 We went our separate ways about two years after taping Headline Chasers.
Here's an episode of Headline Chasers in 1986.
Yes.
