Thanks Dave A for the Talladega Nights reference.....It kinda makes sense! LMAO (The text in the thumbnail was put out to subscribers who who read the UA-cam posts I occasionally put out))
Tackle Advisors you mentioned in a vid recently that THE REEL TEST is becoming a bit bias or something like that I can agree lol I’m looking to your videos for honest reviews more than I do the reel test lately because I think he is a bit bias or overly picky on things that are not a big deal IMO.
First off, thanks for the very intuitive review of the Kastking Speed Demon. I just recently came across this reel on Amazon discounted to $39.99 ($49.99 plus a coupon) free shipping so I said what the heck and purchased it. When I got it, I removed the side plate and noticed it had 9 magnets in a trilateral formation (like the pro model), then I removed the spool and it had the split main shaft (like the pro model). The reel performs great, smooth, quiet and fast. Now I'm not complaining about any of this, just wondering what gives?
Thanks for the review Tackle Advisors --- I bought one of these and a stealth on Amazon Prime day a few months back still getting used to Baitcasters but good to see your opinion ! Happy Gilmore by the way was the movie BTW --- and i am glad you shed the truth on products and i am sure there are many people like me that also appreciate it !
I surely hope you come back to UA-cam again. your experience is priceless. and I hope you'll share it sometime in the future again Great video thank you very much.
Don't you dare make fun of EPF, bro! He speaks 4 languages and is a physicist! I can understand him perfectly, but then again, I'm Brazilian! Kudos on the channel, you know what you are doing!
Thanks Cecap! I appreciate it! I'm not...it's just funny :) ..I actually think what he does is spectacular. I didn't always think so until I started following what he does. And he's great for the sport!
I love EPF's channel its almost like a bad horror movie so bad its good. but its really his enthusiasm for the sport that shows. you don't need to be an expert or a gear junkie to enjoy the sport.
I got one of these for fishing super fast water coming off of the andies here in Ecuador. So far I have landed prolly around 30 or so fish between 5 and 9 lbs only problem that the reel had was the little spring on the thumb button came loose and got chewed up in the gears. Replaced it with a spring from a ball point pen and it's been working fine since.
Awesome review dude.... the intro was quite interesting.... I am planning on entering the fresh water game, and didn't understand the need for high gear ratio... thanks man
Finally some legit good review affet all. As a fan of kastking i liked your objective review.hope you get hands on the pro version and review if they really improved this reel.
Great information. I purchased their Speed Demon Pro as my first baitcaster reel as the Shimano equivalent stuff was silly expensive here in Canada. keep up the great work, my 10 year old also loves taking in your information in the fishing realm :)
The problem with the play of the handle is solved by filing the shaft a little so that the screw goes down a bit and rests better on the washers. so solve several reels that way
The Abu Garcia revo rocket makes fishing topwater baits effortlessly I highly recommend it for buzzbaits whopper plopper anything topwater which is my favorite way to catch fish
I think people putting too much emphasis on the gear and not the angler itself. A master with a stick would destroy a novice with a sword. Same principal here. The one thing I know about the fishing industry is the overhype on how $$$ can make you into a pro. When in fact a pro can make $10 gear into a the hottest gear on the market. Mastery of self and technique are more important than any item you can purchase. Just because your sporting a new pair of Jordans don't make you the goat.
@Tackle Advisors really dig your channel....and I am subscribed. Can you possibly link the Dremel attachments (and maybe the polishing compound) that you use when you do gear polishing. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of a Spartacus Plus and would like to mod it to make it as smooth and friction free as possible. tia
Thanks Tackle Advisors for the review. I happen to own both the Speed Demon (Left Handed) and the Speed Demon Pro (Right Handed) and have used them only for bass fishing from the bank and from docks for over a year now. So far I have not had any problems or issues with them as of yet. I’m by no means a pro angler and just love bass fishing but find these reels great for what I used them for. Yes, the “speed” is somewhat of a hassle when using swim baits because no matter how slow you try to reel them in, I often find myself still looking outward only to find that my bait has already been reeled in and at my feet. LOL I’m sure that it would be better suited for fishing from a boat and from deeper waters to get the fish in quickly before they have a chance to rip off 30 yards of string on you. Also as one guy mentioned that it would be better suited for frogging and top water. My Speed Demon Pro is relatively quiet on the cast and the retrieval whereas the regular Speed Demon is quite a bit noisier but no where near as bad as the reel that you reviewed in your video. Watching your videos has educated me on what to look and listen for as it pertains to not only a quality aspect but also how to maintain what quality I may or may not have. Thanks for your content and keep doing what you are doing. We amateurs really appreciate you.
I bought one of these a few years ago. I had the same problem with them on tension knob and if I reeled fast then stopped it made a loud grinding sound.
So I have this reel and it's super smooth and quiet. The drags needed to be greased but other than that it casts very well and has caught me many calico bass bonito and sheephead from shore
I prefer a robust aluminum frame for flipping and frogging. Preferably at least an aluminum handle-side plate too. I'm not sure what I'll use this reel for (buzz baits?), but I got mine cheap, so I'll give it a try.
What's your opinion of piscifun reels? Any better than kast king? I'd love to see a video or how they compare to ardent reels because they appear to use the factory.
Tackle Advisors I like a tight tolerance grip as well. Really helps when finesse jigging for walleye and such where subtle strikes need to be felt and all reel noise needs to be muted as much as possible. Can the grips be shimmed? I assume so... where do you get these shims (super thin washers)?
The problem with the play of the handle is solved by filing the shaft a little so that the screw goes down a bit and rests better on the washers. so solve several reels that way
@@locoshaggy I'll try that. I measured for and ordered up some teflon coated shims. Ended up just getting shims from a hobby shop for RC cars. Took any play I had out real nice. But it introduced one more component. I like the idea of filing down a little bit. That might work out. I'll be trying it out. Thanks
I like your take on gear ratios. My dad uses spinning gear that's not taking no where near 31 inches a turn. Me however, I feel like anything in the 7s does good for me. Just goes to show that we all have our preferences.
I love my CastKing demon but 3 long inshore seasons its needs some TLC and I've always rinsed and WD'D ... with your video I should be able to get it open to give it a good cleaning with oil and grease ...
Regarding the spool, I get the lighting/inertia argument, but is it possible that manufacturers don't do this because of increased water access to the inside of the the reel especially with braid.
Would it be easy to get replacements for that type of pinion gear.... I mean like a generic one or would it only be available from KK??? This might be a silly question.... but I honestly don't know...
@15:10 fwiw this is exactly what happened to me. Was at the Cape Cod canal with only my 6'MH kayak rod and this speed demon during a blitz in 2019. Brought in a 39" 25lber but had to crank down the drag and broke the reel. Totally worth it to me for the experience, and I had picked it up used for $35. For searching schoolies on topwater from a kayak it's fine too.. expect a year, two max.
I've used mine pulling 5+lb largemouth out of grass matts and never had a problem in the 2 years I've had it I've caught over 30 northerns over 10lbs 3 tiger muskie over 25 an 2 muskie over 40 no problems with the gearing or noise. I've only been fishing with baitcasters for the last 3 years so I'm still a newbie at 48yrs old .... but these are the only reels I tried where the brakes work like they should in my opinion.I can cast the lure out never touch the spool and never had a backlash. I can't cast them as far as some people but ever since my motorcycle accident I don't cast my spinning reels as far as I once could. I liked your unbiased review though.... the price point nowadays is the biggest factor for me and I would never buy a shimano just because it's a shimano ..I don't pay for something just because of it's name. And trust me when I say most people sitting on cushions don't know their employees names.
5.4:1 on my big soft bait setup. 7.X:1 for big hard baits. 6.3:1 general purpose. 8.0:1 frogging, flipping, jigging, spooning. I suppose 9.3 would be nice for fishing really deep and recovering quickly but honestly even with 8.0:1 it's fast enough. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
I bought a Speed Demon about 6 months ago.... the reel failed completed on two fishing trip! Main gears shredded. I have reels as low as $20 to as high as $200. This by far is the worst reel I've ended used, especially with all the hype!.... everything mention in this video was spot on.
I like this reel a lot for many things but not for skipping. I can't skip to save my life with this reel. Need way more power on the brakes. I think maybe the spool is bigger so it needs more power? not an expert in these things, just guessing. But i run my brakes from 6-9 (never max because i do hear a bit of rub too). overall nice review!
After watching this review... I have just cancelled my order of the Speed Demon.... I don't think I would actually use such a reel that often.... once again thanks man for the honest review....
For my frogger top water high speed gear reel, I'm using a rather inexpensive SeaKnight Falcon XG 8.1:1 gear ratio. It was cheaper than this Speed Demon and I love it! I can cast on target almost every time and very far distance. Very FEW, if any back lashes... My favorite and I know it's one of those Chinese companies, but it would be better than the Speed Demon. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like KastKing and I own 2 KK reels...
Personally I bought this reel as a frogging and flipping reel and I love it. The one I got had no scratches and extremely tight tolerances on the handle. I like the brakes and cast a country mile on 50 pound braid. I do not particularly care for the drag though.
Tackle Advisors great video as usual! Have you tried SeaKnight POTM and LUNA? I think you may be surprised at the performance of these reels, mainly due to casting performance. And look, I'm comparing with my top reels (Shimano Core 50, Stile 100HG and Daiwa Steez SV TW). I have three models of Kastking (Spartacus, Spartacus+ and Assassin) and I hate "that" noise, coming from every part of these reels! =/
thats what i thought he said tho lol. After I took it apart and put it back together and my line spool doesnt turn anymore , can you do a short video for that ?
I'm perfectly happy with a Shimano, Daiwa, Abu or Lew's (Doyo) in 6.3:1. It's simple, if you want the line to move faster, reel faster. I also feel it's better to spend $200 to $400 (or more) for a reel that will last as opposed to buying a new cheaper one every few months. BTW, I'm right-handed but only buy left hand wind reels. It took a bit of getting used to it but now I prefer left hand retrieve. That's not to say I won't buy a right-hand retrieve reel if it's one I really want and it's only available in right-hand retrieve.
I bought one when they first came out and it is cheap but it had caught over 200 muskies and it just works and I came missing the bearing and its still working don't ask me why but it works great video thanks ps I could use a bearing hint hint 👍
When I decided to investigate how a Magnetic Brake System worked on my reels, I found that all my reels have aluminum spools which should not be effected by the magnetic field from the magnets.
@@CVM222VOLT There's is an effect, but its very slight. You can take an aluminium foil, put it near a magnet and there will be some pull, but very slight when compared to stainless steel.
Back in 1994 I bought a Daiwa procaster Pr1-5bi. At the time it was the most expensive reel I had ever purchased ($94). It stopped working after about 6 months so I disassembled it and found the pinion gear teeth stripped. It was still under warranty so I shipped it to Daiwa for repair. They shipped it back with a letter stating since I disassembled it I voided the warranty. 10 years later I found a guy that repaired reels and purchased a Daiwa factory pinion gear for $6.00 and repair the reel. After 2 months the same thing happened. I compared the pinion gear to the ones in my other reels and the Daiwa was half the size. In 25 years I have never purchased another Daiwa reel and never will all because of a $6 part. #FUDAIWA
I remember buying two quantum energy metal e 7 reels back in the 90s....I was a senior in hs worked part time at a grocery store and saved up the 360$ for 2 of them... The spool skirts ground into the rotors on both.... Aside winning a knot tying competition and winning a Cabo 50 it was the last quantum spinner I ever purchased. I have had defects of all manufacturers from a zeebass that spent more time in the shop than in my hands to shimano abu and Daiwas that were duds. I hear ya though. Once bitten twice shy
Off topic, would you be comfortable fishing a Bantam 200SG as a weekend and some reel? Fishing soft plastic worms for fw bass. Been thinking about getting one just cause, but I actually want to use it rather than have it sit and be never used or very rarely used.
I'd be curios how long for this world the gear set would be. Getting mauled by a steelhead going 30mph lol. Keep in mind drags run on gear teeth in low pro baitcasters
I'm glad you made this video! The pinion gear on mine somehow find its way to the bottom of the reel housing. I really do like this reel because the retrieve is blazing fast. I use mine for soft-body frogs like Ribbits, Rage Toads, and the beloved Zoom Horny Toads!! Thanks for posting
Thanks to your reviews and tear down of reels I was able to take my fuego baitcaster apart when it started making a grinding noise after I had used it in a rain storm, I have a few of the kastking reels and they do work for my needs. What do you recommend in the 150.00 range I was looking at the tatulas what is you opinion on those. Thanks an keep up the good work
I have the ballistic lt next to the ballistic ex and tatula. I have the exceler next to the Okuma Epixor as well. Just need to do some others first which I'm workin on...
I've been waiting for this review I got one months ago. I was curious if your tension knob was all wonky too. guess not but that noise you get when you put the brakes to 10 I don't get it from that but I do get that noise when I increase the drag. I'm not cranking down the drag either. even half way it gets quite noisy and grindy feeling. Based on my reel and this video I think you hit it spot on with this review. I got mine for $40 on sale and at that price its not bad. oh yea my knobs are both the same in that they have a slight play. I don't think kastking really has a QC check on these knobs
It was basically a 3 settings only tension knob no matter how much I played with the knob. no tension at all, some light tension or cranked down all the way to get little more tension. anything heavier than 1/16 oz when adjust the fall rate of a lure the tension knob does nothing, unless you go to that "3rd setting" but I hate doing that because its so tight the knob gets stuck when slick/wet.
Thanks brotha, ive stubble on your channel you earn my sub, great review i almost bought that speed demon pro reel after seeing this now im looking elsewhere. Edit: the gear is what sold me, on not buying it
No one out there, who has a 9-5 job is going to ware out this reel. At less than 80 bucks lets be realistic, its a genius product for the overall market. Besides 99 % of fisherman don't need nor can't catch more fish with a "Patek Phillipe" reel.
They are actually pretty nice.. At least going by my fondle at the classic.. I didn't put out the video when I was at their booth as a result of their dooshbag marketing rep doing all but throwing me out of their booth and being a pompous jackass.. All while I was filming the product saying how nice it felt...
Kastking only makes good quality for beginners and weekend fisherman. If your expecting a reel that will be dependable after a gruelling season or two. Move along and spend a bit more to get a better reel from a known manufacturer. I am talking through experience using these while I was learning baitcasting.
Speaking of noticed the sale both Tackle Direct and your guy J and H Tackle have on the Spinfisher V, and Amazon already has the 3500 VI showing at around $150 I think so you were right, totally possible to see a sale around Christmas or early spring for that $99 mark.
Kastking never fails to amaze me, not in a good way. I have an old school quantum tour edition pt Burner gear ratio reel that's 12 years old that puts this to shame. It was $240 12 years ago but you can buy them used these days for $50. It won't die no matter how much abuse I give it
Hey bud, long time fan and subcriber of your channel, could you please recommend a braid for a Calcutta conquest BFS.And a Aldaberan BFS? I can't find a line I'm really happy with.Thx man.
Previous video he fill it with mono. Also it is not reccomended to fill BFS spool with braid, it will shorten the spool life span and deform the spool.
@@trent7700 That's what they say but It is up to you. I have Scorpion BFS and Kuying Thunder with braid before then change both with straight fluoro after deform the spool of those reel. The only reel which still normal on my shelves is Aldebaran BFS and i wont put braid on it
My problem is I like light rods and I'm missing hook sets. I've had braid on both these reel's in the past and it helped greatly.Thx for your thoughts.
Great video Nick, you did it now you just pissed off 100% of the Bass Masters community, Largemouth Bass don’t fight that hard. As far Assking goes they won’t get a Dime of my money.
Thanks man! I love bass fishing and even though I spend much of my time in NJ I catch a ton of quality fish. And no matter the time of year they just don't fight hard. They're stubborn fighters for sure but you can break their will... If we're all being honest with ourselves. Even big fish don't pull much line off the spool.

Love ur vids btw they are absolutely what I like seening in a reel
thats what i thought he said tho lol. After I took it apart and put it back together and my line spool doesnt turn anymore , can you do a short video for that ?
Great review. Pls, did you reviewed Pro one too, yet?
Do you have a how to video for making your reel grease?
I bought one when they first came out and it is cheap but it had caught over 200 muskies and it just works and I came missing the bearing and its still working don't ask me why but it works great video thanks ps I could use a bearing hint hint 👍
Wait so the side plate magnets are supposed to brake the side of the spool to slow it down, but the side of the spool is ported... Nice Design 2k18.
Just started the vid but thumbs up. I am 100% sure what i will find here :)
so when will we get some insight on kastking's spinning reels?
Happy Gilmore was a damn good movie
Off topic, would you be comfortable fishing a Bantam 200SG as a weekend and some reel? Fishing soft plastic worms for fw bass. Been thinking about getting one just cause, but I actually want to use it rather than have it sit and be never used or very rarely used.
What about an 11ft steel head rod with this; cast far, float down, and reel back in all day.
I'd be curios how long for this world the gear set would be. Getting mauled by a steelhead going 30mph lol. Keep in mind drags run on gear teeth in low pro baitcasters
@@TackleAdvisors Oh well, it would be entertaining at the least.
Damn str8 it would be a blast!
What time is the giveaway
later this evening. I haven't picked the winner yet or shot the vid
Tackle Advisors hope I win thanks
hey tackle advisors are you ever doing that concept z full review and tear down?
Yup started filming....Within a week it'll be out
Thanks to your reviews and tear down of reels I was able to take my fuego baitcaster apart when it started making a grinding noise after I had used it in a rain storm, I have a few of the kastking reels and they do work for my needs. What do you recommend in the 150.00 range I was looking at the tatulas what is you opinion on those. Thanks an keep up the good work
Who makes the spinning reel that you showed at the end ?
I think that was the Okuma Epixor 2018
I cooked 2 of them! Maybe 5 months total time, not throwing heavy baits either. Both went back.
Careful! The kast King Pro Staff army is not going to like this video!
good
hi =) would you ever do a review, teardown of one of the non zion, non magsealed daiwa lt´s??
I have the ballistic lt next to the ballistic ex and tatula. I have the exceler next to the Okuma Epixor as well. Just need to do some others first which I'm workin on...
I just received Elias v's fuego lt and sent him an exceler lt last week
Review the kastking demon spinning reel.
They make one in a spinning reel.... !@#$ my life lol....
www.kastking.com/kastking-speed-demon-spinning-reel_p0244.html
Lol yep! 7.2:1 gear ratio and only $90.
Omg I thought he said rainforest graphite too! Like that was a thing
Awesome reel
I like mine. Fishing from a kayak, I'm not going to spend 2 or 3 hundred on a reel. Kastking reels are great for the money.
rpb1961 certainly don’t have to spend that much on a reel but there are better value buys for this price range
Scott Oliver what do you prefer?
Freddy T for like 80 dollars you can get a much better product from shimano or daiwa
What was up with your tensioner. This one was a pain to keep seated in place (forgot when I mentioned it but it's in there)
It was basically a 3 settings only tension knob no matter how much I played with the knob. no tension at all, some light tension or cranked down all the way to get little more tension. anything heavier than 1/16 oz when adjust the fall rate of a lure the tension knob does nothing, unless you go to that "3rd setting" but I hate doing that because its so tight the knob gets stuck when slick/wet.
Great video
Regarding the gear sizing. While size does make a difference, you're comparing a brass gear to aluminum.
The magnet cantilever was too high. Just tighten the screws down and the noise will gone.
Is looking need lube oil o my is defective ihave one no noise is a good reel
This wasn't a lube issue
Thanks brotha, ive stubble on your channel you earn my sub, great review i almost bought that speed demon pro reel after seeing this now im looking elsewhere.
Edit: the gear is what sold me, on not buying it
Thanks for giving me ear cancer with that crunchy sound 0:11
Lmao.. Lolol
sounds a little crunchy!
No one out there, who has a 9-5 job is going to ware out this reel. At less than 80 bucks lets be realistic, its a genius product for the overall market. Besides 99 % of fisherman don't need nor can't catch more fish with a "Patek Phillipe" reel.
It's not wearing it out that's a real worry it's hooksets that do damage or snags. Which is the main issue on all baitcasters
Speed demon? Does it get you to metallic blue balls quicker?
As far as the frogs go, cut plastic worms into aspirin sized pellets and put them inside the frog for added weight and distance.
I like to add bb's adds a bit of sound.
I don’t like that spool design because more water could get inside the reel.
I’m shocked at what their Bassinators are selling for at Tackle Warehouse.
I have two of them. Neither one makes that noise.
Julie Bowen before Boston Legal, or Modern Family. Forget the Spinfisher VI vid, this is the one lol.
It won't die no matter how much abuse I give it
What a rickety reel, feel sorry for the owner
Hey man! I can't figure out how to get the brake to stop rubbing by adjusting the carriage..I think I'm gonna sand down the brake mags.
Tackle Advisors Go for it! Almost forgot about this reel haha so take your time
Sounds like my Avet.
With the mag brake or did you turn the pre tensioner up to high and crunched the spool bearing by side loading it too much ?
Tackle Advisors I probably did have the spool tension way too high, this was my first baitcaster
You do realize these are both braid rated reel's?
@@trent7700
That's what they say but It is up to you.
@@trent7700
No problem sir
Great video Nick, you did it now you just pissed off 100% of the Bass Masters community, Largemouth Bass don’t fight that hard. As far Assking goes they won’t get a Dime of my money.
Thanks man! I love bass fishing and even though I spend much of my time in NJ I catch a ton of quality fish. And no matter the time of year they just don't fight hard. They're stubborn fighters for sure but you can break their will... If we're all being honest with ourselves. Even big fish don't pull much line off the spool.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 AAAASSSSSKKKKIINNNGGGG! Im deaaaad!
What's this Large Mouth don't pull hard crap? Lol
True! Bass is fun to fight, but he is not strong. Put the same size Chub next to it and you will hear screaming drag.
Gary March they really don’t
The movie clip is " Happy Gilmore" that his happy place lol
From an engineering standpoint, the pinion is an issue. The small size and lack of depth on the cut is a red flag. It's gonna fail sooner.
Extreme Philly fishing could literally sell a sea shell lol
Pretty sure Leo is making a West coast trip.He is going to try and go over 240 species of fish!! Hope he does it!! And a catch and cook!
David Rauschenbach wow gay
