I have NEVER commented before on any UA-cam video i have seen. But NOW is the time. To say that I am deeply touched by this amazing documentary. Thank you so much for this piece of art & inspiration. Thank you Platon to allow us to see aver your shoulder and into your heart.

PLATON has to be one of the most unpretentious , intelligent, quiet & yet brilliant portrait specialists of this last 30 years & to boot he’s an outstanding human being. He’s a purist with a passion for telling the story behind the lens.
He is amazing both as a person and as an artist. Few people are that transparent, clear, and direct. Also, the people that worked on this documentary did a majestic job! I really appreciated the way they balanced out the emotionally dark part of the women's stories in Congo by introducing right after that the warm atmosphere of Platon talking about his family.
I just came home at midnight after a 12 hours shift in a restaurant in central London. As I was preparing myself for a shower, I spend 43 minutes stand up in the bathroom half naked watching this documentary,( and 5 more minutes to write this comment ). I just discovered Platon and his work. Absolutely worth it. P.c I'm a photographer.
This artist (platon) talent to communicate in all sorts of way verbally, emotionally and thru his artistry is wonderful You will really feel the connection This is very inspiring, to actually use artistry sharing a simple but huge contribution to society.
It’s 2:52am in Texas….This is was so moving in the beauty of Planton’s relationship with Empathy….so genuine. The seed that was placed by his Father/Mother….
This piece and his story reminded me of what art means to - connection with other humans. Brought a few tears to my eyes for that innocence of stripped ego and bravado. Just connection. Beautiful.
His sublime sensitivity to his subjects at the most intimate of moments is an inspiration, not just for its art but for its sheer humanity. It reminds me of the work of the late David Bohm, a Nobel prize-winning quantum physicist who is equally as well known for his philosoophy and deep inquiries into the nature of consciousness, explored through a simple term he called "dialogue." When he explained his concept of dialogue, the simplest summation I've heard, is that to enter into a deep dialogue with another human being you have to show "attention and care." The purpose of dialogue was to get past the baggage that we all bring to conversation and relationships, that comes from our personal history. Bohm wanted to connect with the human being, not that baggage. And his notion of "care" was the essence of how he went about it: he connected with his care for another human being. Platon's work embodies Bohm's notion of dialogue exquisitely.
honestly, this was my favoraite episode from abstract and has stayed that way even through season 2. This introduced me to Platons work but also the person, and that is the most important thing to get out of this, are his thoughts and perspectives.
This statement right here: 36:23 "...Because if I get it wrong, I can actually do great harm." This statement just culminated my respect for Planton and has defined his work ethic for me. How many photo-journalists do you think go to Africa to take photage of African people then end up with portraits of Africa & her people that corrupts the view of non-Africans who's only window into the life of the mother- land is the Frame of the camera they pointed at Africa.
Platon is an orator who takes pictures. His stories always supersede the photograph. His commutation skills are why he has survived in an industry surrounded by better photographers, but who couldn’t compete with his oratorical skills.
Truly meaningful work. You photograph something that is hidden, unphotographable, abstract, inside you. invisible, your soul residing within you at that moment, it points to a past. Empathy is the key.
@@billbuffett2092 ohhhkkay..look here's the thing I don't know a thing about his personal life..it's also a fact that I have never seen images like his from others..all I want to take from him is the art.. what he does in his personal life I don't know..

Platon is his art. His images have power and humanity shines under his lens. He works incredibly close up and I was intrigued by his lens choices. Was he using a 50mm distagon and a 120mm or a 150mm perhaps with extension tubes? The power of his documentary work was very moving. Really visionary!
I enjoy this documentary immensely. He continues to use traditional film for his photography. I also aspire to own a Hasselblad camera someday. Unfortunately, financial constraints prevent me from doing so in this lifetime. Perhaps in my next life. “He still shoots with film that really creates a very different set between a photographer and the subject. When you’re photographing digital, you’re constantly looking at the pictures on the screen and what has happened is you’re losing that intimacy between photographer and subject. The magic part of the relationship of getting to the picture that you want to make”
