Kristy McNichol Officially BOOTED from Hollywood (FOREVER)
Вставка

- She was an all-American tomboy, an Emmy winner before she could drive a car. And then after a solid streak on Empty Nest, this little darling of television left it all behind. Why did Kristy McNichol leave Hollywood in the dust? What did a mother’s failed dreams have to do with it? What is Kristy doing now to keep the arts going?

Any Kristy Fans?
Asa Akira
Had a crush on her in middle school. Even had her and her brother’s album.
😖😤🤬 *I'VE OFFICIALLY UNSUBSCRIBED, TIRED OF MISLEADING TITLES ON THIS CHANNEL.* *DONE.* 👎😠👎
Met her, she was sweet polite and all about maturity.
I was a huge fan
"Officially BOOTED from Hollywood (Forever)" Are you not getting enough views or something? Where does retiring and being BOOTED mean the same thing? She did her time in the limelight and left before it destroyed her, good for her!
A lot of this channel’s titles are misleading like that! And you’re probably right. It’s all about the clicks!
It's meant as click bait.
Any true Kristy fan would know better.
@Dave17101: I was going to say the same thing, but you beat me to the punch.
EXACTLY! I figured as much, always the same.... ugh.
@@edwardm9975 So did Pheobe Cates at the height of her popularity to become a mother and wife when she married Kevin Kline, and I am sure she is much happier now then she would have if Hollywood would have kept her typecast.
As a teen in the 70's, I had a huge crush on Kristy. She had the best smile. Good memories of her role in Family growing up and thankful all of those episodes are on UA-cam. I wish her well and hope she knows she still has fans.
As a little boy in -- 7 to 8 years old -- 1980-1, I had a huge crush on Kristy. My family lived in Albuquerque which had excellent cable coverage compared to the rest of the USA. So it was easy for me to sneak a screening of Little Darlings on HBO or The Movie Channel, whichever happened to be running it. I had something similar with Brooke Shields via The Blue Lagoon, but nothing to rival Kristy.
I watched Empty Nest as a teen, religiously, because of Kristy. Then I went to college, forgot about her and so many other things, as one does. Then 9/11 happened and I wanted to know who else was saddled with that curse-ed birthday besides me. What divine intelligence then confronted me!
Growing up in Albuquerque (my family moved to the East coast when I was 10), I was a big Dallas Cowboys fan. In was in that context that I felt compelled to learn who shared my shitty birthday with me. Answer: Tom Landry... wow! And... Kristy MacNichol... verklempt... Tom who? What's a "rather star back"? It's a silly, unimportant detail, but the fact remains that happenstance has made me care about her well being more than I should. Seems like she's doing alright; thumbs up.
Me too and I’m a girl. And not gay.
Me too. I was in love.❤
Kristy McNichol has always been one of my favorites...❤
Excellent actress. So happy she knew her limitations. She is a tomboy that everyone loved. I loved her in Family
I've never seen nor heard of Kristy before stumbling here. Not a tomboy but a boy. I know you'll laugh but once you have eyes to see, most Hollywood "females" are male. If you believe in God, ask him to show you the truth.
Bless her heart. I'm glad she's doing good. She deserves it.
*DO YOU AGREE WITH ME*
I think the alternative to quitting in Paris is to limit stress by doing a mediocre job and accepting that, though when I have tried that approach, I have sometimes gone past mediocrity and bombed. It looks like she did that for a while afterwards.
Buddy was my favorite role by Kristy McNicolas.
Loved everything Kristie Macnickle was ever in!!! Booted from Hollywood? Not likely! Retired from acting is more like the truth!!
More likely knowing Hollywood was abused and r*p£d
McNichol
Sorry I misspelled Kristy's last name !
After I dropped out of high school, I played in bands, as a guitarist, for a year and a half, then started having panic attacks and terrible anxiety. About that time, there was in article in People magazine, I believe, about Kristy McNichol and her issues with Depression. It was actually a big help for me.
The night the lights went out in Georgia was my favorite movie as a kid
Too much booze and blow?
When your a teen watching her movies you fall in love, she was gorgeous as hell.
CLICK BAIT CRAP!! Kristy was never 'BOOTED' from anywhere, she chose to retire from acting for heath reasons.
carpet muncher never new wow
Totally click bait
She never wanted to be a star anyway !
Kristy was BOOTED. Obviously a perverse lifestyle.
as a tomboy growing up, myself, Kristy McNichol was my idol. I also loved playing my Kristy and Jimmy McNichol 45s on my little record player. oh, the nostalgia!
Met her last March. Very sweet lady. 🫶🏼
I sure do remember EVERYTHING she did. I am 55, so yea, i was there the whole time through the TVGuide! Lol
I grew up with Kristy, she had a charisma that was rare in adults let alone a teenager. Then she made a very mature decision, while still young, to leave the destruction of Hollywood behind, good for her. We still love you Kristy!
Yes we do we grew up watching you, and you gave us your childhood. We are glad that she retired to save your peace of mind. You are not forgotten about your childhood and we always with you add Peace of mind in your heart we love you. Don't forget that.
Absolutely loved her--shame her talent wasn't managed more responsibly. She went through some tough times, and was clearly exploited for money. Glad she didn't wind up crashing and burning like so many others.
Clickbait. She was NOT booted from Hollywood. She chose to leave. Good for her.
Im glad she is having a happy ending....
I had a friend who explained to me that she was "a tomboy" in 1969, at age 5. Kristy opened up some breathing room for people like her to be themselves, a role model I guess.
I guess that is why she fit so good with Karen Carpenter in the Carpenters specials. Also they both struggeled with their Moms. They had a lot in common.
Kristi used to always kick ass in “Battle of the Network Stars”. No woman could beat her. I wish that show would come back
Except Melissa Gilbert
@@vickie9784 she smeared Melissa Gilbert lol
heck, I'd take reruns on youtube or streaming. the 'stars' of today would never do it nor would I want to see them do it.
Agreed.
there's no more stars any more for one thing. they may be famous, but no star quality.
I am older, so I remember her rise to fame. I also remember wondering why, years later, she wasn't doing
any acting, and missing her face. But I became very happy for her. She had escaped Hollywood
and the dangers all the child actors of the time faced. She found herself early. That makes me smile.
I remember she was absolutely everywhere. At just a few years older than her, and in Northern California, I could somehow see that it had to be unsustainable.
She wasn’t booted out forever, she chose to leave for her own mental health and well being. I always liked her in TV shows and movies, she was smart enough to know when it was time to leave Hollywood and to save herself.
She has been my favorite actress when I saw "the Pirate Movie" on tv...it had released already on VHS. For some reason, that I found out later in my life, she was the one I wanted to look up to! She is still my favorite...so let me count almost 40 years later. I am happy She retired...I knew what that career was doing to her. She wrapped that time up on a great TV show Empty Nest. As I got older I learned why I reached for her...we have many things in common!
She had the sweetest voice ever
Her last two on screen appearances were on Empty Nest. Season 5 episode 4 "...Or Forever Hold Your Peace", and the series finale a few years later. Every episode is on UA-cam. She's a big reason of why I watched the show. Well, Dreyfuss too.
Actually, it was the 5th Empty Nest episode of Season 5. That one was 100% worth it and then her returning for the end of the series. We missed her and glad she came back for the finale.
I am watching those now. Lol I’m not too impressed with Emily though.
@supergg07 How come? Is it the actor or just her character itself? We definitely needed some of that sister dynamic that Barbara and Carol had. Lisa (Emily's actor) was a good replacement for Kristy. I would've loved it if we had at least an episode with all three Weston sisters, though. Emily also could've made an end of the show return to the show, and we could've seen her/Barbara's dynamic since we only know the dynamic Carol had with both of her sisters and not Barbara/Emily's
@@Moyaiville_Productions For a family show, it wasn't a 'tight family' Dinah Manhoff is a good actor playing such a needy character.
I used to watch Kristy in the show Family. I’ve always loved her. Wishing her the best.
Great lady and still doing it big w/o Hollywood. Loved her in Family. 🦋
I loved Kristy in Family. The movie Little Darlings was great back then
.....the movie "Little Darlings"......about two teenage girls that make a bet on who can lose their virginity first.......
I remember watching "Family " on syndication in the 80's in my pre-teens back in my native MD/DC METROPOLITAN & recall loving to seeing Kristy there...next to Quinn Cummings.
She was and still is my crush!
I am the same age as Kristy (well, a month older) and never missed an episode of Family, loved that show. She always felt like a sister to me, glad she's well and taking care of herself. ❤
Yes I’m from SC ! She did a March of Dimes campaign in Wilmington NC in like 78 , u could call in and make donations and speak to her on air , well my parents donated and I got to. Speak to her for about three minutes telling her how I loved her on Family series ! Will always remember that ! Best wishes and happiness Kristy !
i love her just as she is
I loved her in Family.
Kristy was my first celebrity crush
Click bait. She wasn’t booted
The first time I saw Kristy McNichol was on an episode of The Bionic Woman. I still remember seeing her character wake up startled in that episode. Objects mysteriously moving on their own was originally thought to be paranormal, but it ended up her character was telekinetic and she needed to address her fears and learn to control her powers -- with the Bionic Woman's help.
I had a HUGE crush on her starting from the 1st grade (back in the mid 70's) to 6th grade. She had my heart all that time. I like to see updates on how she is doing. Kristy, I love you (even at my age)!
@MWD3158 Oh I understand that. I mean that I still love her in spite of her being a lesbian. That's all. lol
@SCZ3158Wow, that's like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Graduating from cute teen girl to beautiful, buxom, curvey women. Now that I think about it though, it happened with us girls too, but probably even younger. When I was 9 or 10 it seemed like one day I was crushing on Leif Garrett, then suddenly it was actual young men like Rex Smith or Greg Evigan. Yikes!
Growing up I remember watching Family and the movie The End with Burt Reynolds also the Summer of my German Soldier.
And yes I’ve heard her and her brother sing together
They were great.
Way to go Kristi
Always stand your ground.
Good luck
When I was young a lot of people would tell me i looked like her.
I had one lady at the Hardee's drive-thru that would call me Kristy. I felt bad but had to tell her that wasn't my name. Thats when she said, "you look like the girl in TV". 😃
I always enjoyed her rolls. I am glad she did what she had to do to make her life something she enjoys and is productive for her reasons not someone else's reasons.
Ohhhh, my God my all times favorite teen love 💕
I loved Kristy McNichol and Tatum O’Neil in Little Darlings ❤️And now I recognise Cynthia Nixon from Sex & the City
I know!
Yes I recognized Cynthia Nixon as well. Funny how you grow up watching that and then realize that Cynthia started so young herself and then went on to star in one of the biggest shows made, Sex in the City, during that time respectively. Love looking back on this real talent from my childhood! Glad Kristy is doing well. Loved her and her brother. To have made it out of Hollywood and living a nice normal life. I wish them all the best. And to also to have had contact with some of the biggest stars back then. RIP Burt Reynolds’s and to Tatum’s dad Ryan 🙏🏼What a great trip down memory lane. Thumbs down for the clickbait title though🤦♀️
Mental illness and acting in Hollywood don't mix well.
She is a wonderful actor and I will always love her and wish her well!
❤
I remember her from her guest starring roles on Starsky and Hutch. She was all over the place in tv, movies, then Family came along and I watched her there. The last movie I saw her in was "The Pirate Movie" with Christopher Atkins. I'm so glad she is doing good and finally taking some 'me' time. It's great to see her then and now. She is still wonderful as ever.
Boy oh boy wasn't "The Pirate Movie" a gem. I grew up in the 70's and Kristy was the tomboy everybody loved.
Always like her ❤
God Bless her. I'm glad she's happy and doing well 💛
Wow what a clickbait title ! She left Hollywood. Period . Her choice .
I went back and rewatched Little Darlings recently, for the first time since I was a kid, and was blown away by the maturity and depth of emotion in Kristy McNichol’s performance. Phenomenal talent.
Long time ago I met her . She was such a genuine and kind person .
Sure missed you but very glad that things are coming together for you. Stay strong.
You never said how/ she got booted. It sounds to me like she quit the business on her own.
You forgot that she started out on "Apple's Way". Shewas on season 2, as the new Patricia.
I was a huge fan of hers when I was a kid in the 80's. Thanks for the video; I always wondered what happened to her career. This sort of thing is actually quite common in Hollywood. I still watch the reruns of "Empty Nest" & "Family". Family was so smart. A show like that would never make it now. It would get laughed out of the room.
I've been in love with Kristy since the first time I saw her on Family, and I've been in love with her ever since. Take care of yourself my love. We've never met and will most likely never meet on this side of life, but always know that there is someone who loves you. 😘😘🥰🥰😍😍💖💖
Thanks for the great show!! Always loved that girl, especially in Little Darlings!!💖
Every week, I looked forward to the show Family! Several years ago, I watched the entire series on UA-cam. As a kid, I didn't realize how deep the show was. I had a poster of Kristy on Jimmy's shoulders. As a child actress she was financially responsible for her family. That is a lot for a kid to endure. I'm glad she is happy and content now.
I loved her in Empty Nest and The Pirate Movie. Also agree with everyone else about the click bait title. Come on now, it's ridiculous!
So you couldn't find any dirt on her and had to resort to making up click bait titles for views? ... I have a wife and kids if I need to be fooled. Unsubscribed ➡👋
She wasn't booted out of anywhere. I hope your channel tanks
With well over half a million viewers the channel doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
@@cameron398 it's click bait fodder
Childhood crush. Kristy was the only reason I watched Family and Little Darlings.
I don’t think the girl on the left in the still picture is Christy.
I adored her in "The Pirate Movie!" That movie is so goofy and good silly fun. It shows off how well she sings and dang if she didn't have the best costumes in it! I also liked how she portrayed the spunky, snarky heroine.
She was one of my first girl idols... I was in love with her and Tatum O'Neil.
Same. I wore overalls all the time because of Kristy. She was amazing. Tatum was beautiful too. Ryan just passed last week. I hope both ladies are doing what they want and finding happiness for themselves.
@@lorimiller4301 agreed... Well said.
I always loved Kristy. She gave one of the greatest performances I have ever seen on film in LITTLE DARLINGS. She has enormous gifts as an actress.
Why are you saying she was "booted from Hollywood?" She left show business of her own accord.
I’m done with this channel and the lying titles.
Empty Nest was a great show.
One of the greatest actors of all time. Kristy is missed.
Met Kristy a couple of times in person. Kind and sweet person!
Back when all the other dudes my age had the classic Farah Fawcet poster, I had Kristy. I had the biggest crush on her when I was like 12. I'm 58 now. I have one ex-wife and a whole slew of ex-girlfriends, and none of them could hold a candle to her. Just felt like sharing that. 🤘
Little Darlings was so good. I love Kristy. She was always there as a female role model. I wish her absolute peace and happiness.
I notice that Kristy being a gay woman has kept her safe from scandals with guys and no messy divorces, no stalkers, and no abuse from them. I'm a gay woman and have none of that either and I'm so glad! I wonder if she has a girlfriend it wasn't mentioned in this video.🤔
I never saw or heard of this woman in my life,
She is so beautiful.
As a teenage boy, I obviously had a crush on quite a few famous and visible teenage girls but all of them put together never equaled the one I had for this one.
Truly Sad I loved Her. Never Realized We're the Same Age. I'd Love To See Her in A Well Written Staring Movie Role If She Was Comfirtable & It Wouldnt Be Detrimental to Her Mental Health
I had such a huge crush in Kristy McNichol. And, yea, she's older than me, by 8 years.
She can't be BOOTED from Hollywood. She walked away. Good for her. Happy for her.
Growing up in the 70’s , Family was a show I watched every week. I was a fan of hers & in the 80’s when she abruptly stopped acting, I didn’t know what had happened until years later. I am just glad for her that she knew when to put her well being first. I still would consider her to be a success story because so many kids stars back then, lives ended up being tragic. She took charge of hers.
So glad this talented, wonderful lady is now in a good place
She deserves happiness and admiration.❤❤
There is a scene between her and Marsha Mason in Only when I Laugh. That is Oscar worthy. It is brilliant.
I always thought Kristy was an amazing actress. I liked her best in The Summer of My German Soldier. What a wonderful film!
I have that album still at 57! Used to love them.
Why on earth was this titled as she was "BOOTED from hollywood"?? I knew that was BS from the jump. So, if you can't come up with a correct tagline for your videos than just stop making them. This is OFFENSIVE on sooooooo many levels to her as well as anyone going through a similar experience! 🤬
This was brilliant 👍, I often wondered what happened to this awesome lady 🥰. You brought back memories of shows I'd watched and loved. So glad she's doing great ❤
Always loved her, and always a great personality
Had a super big crush on her
Waste of crush, Leno
Christy she was my teen model I'm 58
Hollywood is evil, & this really shows it. Kristy had no substance use issues but the industry advertised that she did; that is about as low as it gets. Hollywood went out of it’s way to hurt Kristy as much as it could😡🤬. I am really sorry to learn this happened to Kristy. I remember her with the Carpenters.
I adored her brother, Jimmy, for the movie Champions: A Love Story (inspired by a real life tragedy in 1961, when we lost our entire Olympic Figure Skating team in s plane crash.).
The title is disrespectful to Kristy McNichol. Sure, she was as famous and successful as a child actor can be, back in the 70’s. She could really act! There is nothing wrong with leaving Hollywood, or retiring from acting.
A profound book I cherish is Summer of My German Soldier. Kristy starred in the film version, and she filled that role as no other could. EVERYONE should watch this movie. It is actually especially relevant today, even though it is from the 70’s. It doesn’t matter what your affiliations are. Chances are you will leave this film with a deepened awareness of true worth, true friendship, and a heart to persevere for all that is worth cherishing in a cold, too oft callous world.
Wish you all best, Kristy. You have had your share of pain.
as a young teen I had a huge crush on her back in the day.
She always made me smile, she is a wonderful woman, I admire her. I also find myself in depression, I’m 86 years old. Every now & then I fall into that darkness! My hubby listens to me, once I step back into sunshine I’m better till next time! 😁. I take medication it helps but I still struggle on the edge.
Congratulations for finding yourself, I have enjoyed your acting . . . I practice if that person or problem feels wrong . . . . I step away because I don’t need any of that! So happy you found a person to love & she love you back!! 😇😇😇
I lived with undiagnosed bi-polar disorder for decades. It's like being in an out of body experience all of the time. When I finally was properly diagnosed & treated, I had to figure out who I was. I'm glad Kristy's story has a happy ending. She is strong & courageous.
Why does no one remember she led a closeted life for years before coming out in the late 90's?
Not attacking her of course, I believe it was the stress of leading a double life really messed with her head. I think she got her life back on track and now leads a happy, simplistic life. I wish her well.
I liked her in empty nest.
She is still pretty. I often wonder what happened to Kristy. Glad she is finally happy in her life. I wish her the best. ❤
Loved her and Jimmy, too.
Growing up as a kid I ALSO had a huge crush on Kristy too. I Loved her in the movie The night the lights went out in Georgia and had a couple of her and her brothers albums I am 56 now❤
Her decision to prioritize her well-being over her career serves as a powerful example of self-care and resilience in the face of adversity.
I grew up watching her. We’re the same age and I was also a girl and I was a Tom boy. Funny that I knew I had a huge crush on her, but I didn’t know I was bisexual until I was at least 17. I’m so glad to hear she got out of Hollywood before it crushed her, and she got to live a beautiful life.
i had the unusual experience of being her next door neighbor on Bloomfield Ave (1971) in North Hollywood; my daughter played with her and Jimmy and their St. Bernard dog. her mother told me that she was going to get Kristy into show business and she apparently was very serious about it. once as the kids were outside in the driveway of our apartment next to the McNichol's house, I went to the door with my cat in my arms (a big mistake) and when the Bernard lunged at the cat, I was deeply scratched by the cat. i quickly closed the door and attended to the cat scratches on my abdomen. had I known the dog was with them, I would never have had the cat in my arms when I opened the door.
the McNichol kids were always pleasant and courteous and I have pleasnt memories of knowing them, however briefly.
The title of this is a lie--in your video, she was never booted from Hollywood.
