@@jimioconnor8039 I have not played the Black Magick sound the same, but similar. Jose, not sure I know what you are talking about because anybody can play a cover of something it's if you actually play the recordings that they flag you and will take down the video but if you just crank out a few seconds of a riff they cannot do anything about that and when he started playing Whole Lotta Love that's really deceptive because Jimmy played that particular song from the second album through the Les Paul not the Telecaster so that doesn't not sound anything like the studio recording of Whole Lotta Love any Die Hard page guy knows this but when he ended with that riff and slowed it down and held those notes it sounded dead on or real close to Ten Years Gone that was really really sweet and wish you would have played a few bars of that with the telly because he may have used the Tele on Ten Years Gone later on I'm pretty sure but don't quote me on it... but I agree with the other comment that they should have played the Les Paul and the Telly and did a little Communication Breakdown in Dazed and Confused because that's what the Tele and the Supra was most likely used on and that would have been a more accurate demonstration of how this m could create Pages original Studio tones I mean come on now you guys had to have known that and you didn't even bother and just oogled over it... easy to understand though lol

As a former music store owner/partner I know how hard it is to do bricks and mortar business. And as a veteran Audio Engineer/Producer I know the hard slog that earns such a reputation. Hats off to Clif. Respect!
Tim, I bought a guitar from Clif over the phone having looked at his website first, a Tuttle Telecaster. I think it was the first Tuttle Clif sold. He was kind enough to post a video of you in his store playing the same guitar on his webpage. That was really special for me. I agree that dealing with Clif was so much more enjoyable than the big box stores. His passion for music and his friendship with you were all things we talked about during the transaction. I live in DC, so I waited a few days for the guitar to arrive, tracking it with FEDEX several times a day. When I opened the case I was ecstatic and overjoyed. I would love to purchase again from Clif.
It's the person on the strings that matters, and Tim you have the chops to make any setup sound awesome. Playing in a stadium, that requires some gear. I couldn't afford to open the door to go into His store.Great to look at though from a safe distance.
What an amazing store! Definitely my kind of place! The sheer variety is what I love. Instead of all vintage or all boutique, it's a very handpicked mix of everything. Really awesome!

Very cool store. But, you don't even have to get as exotic as Cliff's inventory to be novel. In my area, it's nothing but big box stores....Deluxe Reverbs, HotRods, Marshall DSL, Vox AC 15 and a smattering of Orange stuff. In the mid 1980's I used to hit up the 3 main "old gear" guitar shops in Hollywood down the street from the Original Guitar Center. There was not the fanfare for vintage gear in the "new-digital 80's". "vintage" was your grandma's silver and Model-T Ford's, not guitars and amps. Although some gear was fussed over. A little perspective. One day in 1985 I walked into a used store and a first run Fuzz Face was selling for $600, but also in the store was a mint, tube $100 Vox Pathfinder 'for Thomas Organ Co.' (I bought), a $100 beat to hell, but good sounding orig. tweed Fender Champ, a $150 Danelectro tan/goldish Formica guitar w/ amplified guitar case. And I went next door and bought 3 "as is" Fender amp chassis less their tubes, cabinet, spkr, but otherwise complete. I paid $75 and walked out with a 1963 brownface Bassman, 1965 blackface Bassman w/ master vol mod, and a 71' silverface Twin Reverb with a single silicon transistor input buffer on the input of channel 2, and powered from a DC supply fabricated and tapped off of the bias supply. THAT'S HOW I LEARNED TUBE AMPS! It was before the Groove Tubes manual so schematics were scarce. I paid $20 for 6-8 schematic photocopies of Marshall and Boogie at one store. The Fender amps I committed to memory. Between those three chassis, I had a sweet sounding '65 Bandmaster a buddy grabbed for me at a flea market for $25. It was covered with cigarette burns, and also had a "chopped" portable-into-head '65 Princeton that a neighbor gave me. Lots of 65's...I was born 10/13/65...so am I a pre-CBS hmm. I tried my first mod converting that Princeton it into a Jim Kelly amp. The 6V6 tube seemed so foreign. I had boxes of 6L6, 6L6G, and 6L6GC. Years later I became an electronic organ nut. Still am! A little secret...ah' I better not, you 'vintage' cats might go make guitar amps out of'm. BTW The HAMMOND AO-35 3-SPRING 'NECKLACE' REVERB AMP? It's better off sitting until you can find a 3-spring reverb necklace to go with it. It's the best reverb period imho. Any speaker-out/tap drives it. So universal. The necklaces show up on Ebay.
@13:00 min, comment that Tim played on Rick Springfield's album 'Snake King'. No wonder(!) I'm lovin' it. Great song writing - a kinda bluesy-flavored album.
Cool guitar shop. Awesome vintage gear too. Those Landau Strats sent me down memory lane. I bet they sound incredible. Michael Landau always has the perfect strat tone to! Soooo good!
Great video with the usual dose of over the top playing extraordinaire! You are definitely getting the hang of this music thing. ;-) I always love the way you craft a "pocket". And hearing these great amps and guitars in the right hands is a lot of fun.
I would be honored and scared to be in that room. Seeing all those guitars and amps, I would get over whelmed, dizzy and fall on something I could never afford. So thank you for the tour
Tim, what do you think of Rick Springfield's playing in The Zoot? Their version of Eleanor Rigby is amazing, from 1971, I think. They are a legend in Australian rock. I love your playing, and your presentation and attitude.
Love the live clips. Allen Hinds playing a Pat Metheny song, Abe Laboriel Sr. and Abe Jr. playing with Michael Landau. Travis Carlton on bass supporting Mr. Hinds. Travis seems to be everywhere. His dad must be super proud.
So he's a collector who sells. Nice. If I would win the lottery. I would do the same. I just can't afford to make the occasion mistakes to that happen. Love the history and the story's.
I’ve been a professional drummer for 41 years. You wouldn’t know me, but if you own a TV you’ve probably heard me.., anyway I’m a guitar and guitar amp ‘geek’.., I have around 20-25 guitars and about 10-12 amps.., I love your playing and I love your channel, but this was a joy to watch.., one of my favorites yet ! Thank you...
The Renaissance Man Project Mostly indie performances.., but I’ve performed live or pre recorded on all the major stations morning shows and the Travel channel, Weather channel, etc. I’m certainly no Jim Keltner.., just a big fish in a small.., but I get some decent calls...
Tim this was an outstanding video!!!!! I stumbled upon it and subscribed!!! That Sundragon sounded so close to the record!!!!! And I really enjoyed seeing the guitars and amps that I was unfamiliar with!!! Many thanks!!!
The marriage talk was golden ! think about including a minute of current personal life with every musician's interview, Tim ! Suddenly those people become more like the rest of us :)
Oh my God! That really is Jimmy Page's sound, especially paired with a Tele. I always want a Supro but will never definitely afford the Sun Dragon, but as somebody said somewhere here, the Black Magic is perhaps the one I'm getting.
Sundragon is planning on releasing a more affordable, non limited edition amp, this fall. Not sure where the price will be, but I'm sure that it will be much cheaper than the limited edition models. www.guitarworld.com/news/summer-namm-2019-jimmy-page-announces-standard-edition-sundragon-amp
Excellent clip...it's really great to get more info out there about what brick and mortar stores and "mom and pop" stores deal with. And I will say I love ya Tim, with all my heart, but "Whole Lotta Love" (and likely the rest of the second album with a few exceptions like the Vox Phantom Electric XII on "Livin' Lovin' Maid) was almost certainly recorded with Page's #1 Les Paul and the likelihood is strong that he used the Vox UL-4120 head and Ric Transonic cabinets with Jensen speakers as the amp for that song. This combo is relatively clean with Mid and Upper Mids stressed, and I think it was boosted with the pre-amp from the Vox Long Tom echo unit he was using at the time according to photographic evidence. The Supro is present during the sessions according to the same photographic evidence, but I make an educated guess that the Supro was not the amp used for the main guitar track. There may be more evidence in Jimmy's new book 'Jimmy Page: The Anthology' which details specific gear in detail in at least some of it's pages. That said, the sound of Page's modified Supro (which the Sundragon replicates) lives in that beautiful boosted mid and upper mid land where electric guitars shine and it does give a very similar tone to the Vox UL-4120 head/Ric Transonic/Vox Long Tom pre-amp gear. And you do play that riff absolutely correctly with the bent D note at the 5th fret of the A string with the open D string ringing...crucial to making that riff really sing! Great work as usual! The licks you play at the very end of the clip are VERY similar in sound to the Zeppelin I version of "I Can't Quit You Baby" which by all accounts WAS recorded with the Dragon Tele and the modified Supro...
No offense meant in any way...I am grateful for all you do! I'm just a severely obsessive Page fan and thought I'd share a little of what I have learned. Thanks very much indeed again for this and all your videos and tutorials!
I just recently joined a cover band and had to learn Jessie's Girl including the solo.. it's not that hard but just really melodically fun to play as are so many of Neil's solos.. thanks again for all the insight and cool interviews!
that page imitation amp looks awesome. luckily I already own a mid 50's supro, but if I didn't I would certainly be interested. cool store. thanks Tim.
Just so you dudes who want to know about famous people's sounds what really makes Jimmy Page's tone is his fuzzs' and the EQ stage not the amp. I got to meet Jimmy a few years ago (thank God for that) but what he said about it was (I'm paraphrasing) "what I think is the distortion pedal is 90% of my sound I've used valve 120 watt bass amps and small combination amps were mainly my sound because of how I would push the amp through the treble and mid range without any bass in the tone part of the circuit" but while I was talking with him I asked if he knew anybody who had his exact same sound he said a Japanese guy called Jimmy Sakurai. I know this video is more about the guitar shop but I just wanted to get this out. The best part about my story was it happened in a grocery market
No question that the single most true thing said in this video is the marriage advice at 15:18... "They just want to be heard. Listen, don't try to fix it!". If only I remembered this more often. Cool gear, great store too.
Many of you probably caught it immediately, but the part Allen Hinds plays at 5:21 drove me nuts-I knew I'd heard it before. In case anyone else is wondering, it's from Pat Metheny's "September Fifteenth." You can see Pat play this part in an acoustic medley here on YT: ua-cam.com/video/-3T-I3gPUMw/v-deo.html. -Tom
This video made me sad, happy and grateful . Sad ill never be able to afford the amazing gear, happy you made a video so i could experience it even a little and grateful for all the great songs you contributed too. Thanks Tim for all of it. I can actually remember the first time i heard Runaway which is kind of weird in itself. An everyday normal moment but it was the guitars that grabbed me and thats why i remember the moment. Thats rare.that i remember the moment i first heard a specific song and in my world thats pretty cool. Awesome thanks
We are seeing a lot of this boutique guitar stuff, I think guitar is now more popular than it ever has been, boutique is the word ;) I will say that it makes no difference what gear you choose, your playing will always be an organic result of your fingers on strings.
@@robertwellington2616 I see many stores, of the smaller variety also. Andertons is a good example of a small store that has benefited from social media media production, perhaps more of them need to pay attention to what is happening in the world?

I would be honored and scared to be in that room. Seeing all those guitars and amps, I would get over whelmed, dizzy and fall on something I could never afford. So thank you for the tour
Tim, what do you think of Rick Springfield's playing in The Zoot? Their version of Eleanor Rigby is amazing, from 1971, I think. They are a legend in Australian rock. I love your playing, and your presentation and attitude.
12:26 ...EVERY night!
Father and son on Bass & Drums. Now that is cool.
Love the live clips. Allen Hinds playing a Pat Metheny song, Abe Laboriel Sr. and Abe Jr. playing with Michael Landau. Travis Carlton on bass supporting Mr. Hinds. Travis seems to be everywhere. His dad must be super proud.
OUTRAGEOUS Tim!!!! What a great drive thru this amazing collection! WOW!!!! THANK YOU AND L.A. VINTAGE!!!!
This was soooooo cool Tim, thank you so much for this video!!! Very cool people checking very cool gear.
Phatback Beat that’s cool, who have you played with?
Phatback Beat session drummer?
The Renaissance Man Project
Mostly indie performances.., but I’ve performed live or pre recorded on all the major stations morning shows and the Travel channel, Weather channel, etc. I’m certainly no Jim Keltner.., just a big fish in a small.., but I get some decent calls...
I’d love to jam with Tim.
Phatback Beat that’s awesome
Thanks Tim, what a great interview!
another great video Tim that was a really cool mini-tour of Clif's store!
Tim. You are living the dream. My dream at least. You are so talented and successful yet you are so humble. That is why I watch your channel.
Hi Tim Pierce, love your videos, you are a great guy, talentend, humble, all my respect Mr Pierce !
Very entertaining video Tim. I love the channel it’s always inspiring and your love for guitar is infectious 🎸
Tim this was an outstanding video!!!!! I stumbled upon it and subscribed!!! That Sundragon sounded so close to the record!!!!! And I really enjoyed seeing the guitars and amps that I was unfamiliar with!!! Many thanks!!!
Although WLOL was recorded with Jimmy’s black LP custom thru a vox that the engineer dug out for him, so it doesn’t sound that close.
The only thing SCARY is how much money I would spend there. Oh, and how good Mike Landau is at guitar. You too, of course, Tim.
The marriage talk was golden ! think about including a minute of current personal life with every musician's interview, Tim ! Suddenly those people become more like the rest of us :)
Out here in the north East you are a very well kept secret to me.
So glad to have found your store! Thank you for sharing!
Great video! What is the small handheld video camera you were using in the store?
Nice guy! I bought a really nice vintage ES-3xx case from Cliff about 4 years ago!
Love the gear, love the old school banter. Thx guys.
Thanks Tim, what, no "Stairway" at the store? Sorry. I live in L.A. and have not been here yet. The Allen Hinds clips were awesome.

Now THAT was a great video. Well done Tim
Hey thanks my film is not perfect and I appreciate your knowledge
No offense meant in any way...I am grateful for all you do! I'm just a severely obsessive Page fan and thought I'd share a little of what I have learned. Thanks very much indeed again for this and all your videos and tutorials!
None taken ....Much appreciated
Looks like a really great shop Tim Thanks for showing us 👏👏👏
Super fun vid Tim , thank you! I became Robert Plant for a few lines until you stopped. I love the back of the amp also, great stuff.
Tim Pierce is such a good guitar player!
@7:08 So cool when Abe Laboriel Sr. thanks Mike Landau for his playing
I just recently joined a cover band and had to learn Jessie's Girl including the solo.. it's not that hard but just really melodically fun to play as are so many of Neil's solos.. thanks again for all the insight and cool interviews!
Awesome loved the content, can’t see this on to many channels.
that's a beautiful LP burst.
The sound of that Tele with that amp is awesome!
man, at 7:23 that James Tyler headstock reminded me of the epic Michael Casswell - Joe Bonamassa jam video. RIP Michael :/
Great show Tim Pierce tremendous trip
that page imitation amp looks awesome. luckily I already own a mid 50's supro, but if I didn't I would certainly be interested. cool store. thanks Tim.
Great stuff as always! Thanks Mr. Pierce. Respect!
Just that opening few seconds was amazing!
So what's the name and location of this guitar store?
8:37 Pure Awesomeness 🤘
Later found out most of Led Zeppelin 2 was from a bass amp that IS 120 watts called Vox UL4120
Cool store. I’m about a 36 hour drive away, but maybe one day!
No question that the single most true thing said in this video is the marriage advice at 15:18... "They just want to be heard. Listen, don't try to fix it!". If only I remembered this more often. Cool gear, great store too.
this great - do more of these type of things
Beautiful store, great stories, nice Mike Landau inset with rhythm section Royalty.
What is the name and location of Cliff’s store?
LA Vintage Gear
Just hit my favorite video from this channel!
Great piece, really fun.
I really want one of those Carol Ann amps. I first saw/heard those at Austin Guitar House.
Matt Adams They are great amps.
-Tom
I would love to run a store like that. Great video🎩🎩🎩
This stuff is great! But when will we see you interviewing and playing with mr Landau, Tim? ^^
We are seeing a lot of this boutique guitar stuff, I think guitar is now more popular than it ever has been, boutique is the word ;) I will say that it makes no difference what gear you choose, your playing will always be an organic result of your fingers on strings.
Michael Gorman there’s no stores left sir in most places. Except big box stores.
@@robertwellington2616 I see many stores, of the smaller variety also. Andertons is a good example of a small store that has benefited from social media media production, perhaps more of them need to pay attention to what is happening in the world?
I bought two Danocasters on the phone from LA Vintage and had them shipped to Salt Lake City. The service is fantastic and the guitars are amazing.
I love my Dano Tele. Too bad Dan decided to move on from making guitars.
@@Indyrunner03 I didn't know that. I wonder if that is why the prices suddenly jumped. Well...I'm glad I have a couple. They are two of my favorites.
@@michaela9817 Yeah, he announced it a couple weeks on Facebook and Instagram. Said that his heart just wasn't in it and wanted to find a new passion. I can't say I blame him. He went from producing a few guitars a month to having a backlog that was almost 2 years long. It stinks - I was about to get on that backlog for a Strat. The prices are now opportunists on Reverb taking advantage of supply/demand.
Cool video.Beautiful store.
Wow! some amazing gear in that store! I guess the version of that amp for us "mere mortals" is the Supro black majick : ) Amazing video! : )
JJ Collins I have the Black Magick Reverb. It’s a great amp. I like the sun dragon amp but I don’t want everything I play to sound like Led Zeppelin. That’s just me.
what a treat! thanks for sharing! did you buy the sundragon?
That amp is one of 50 made and it sells for 50k. I doubt he would ever sell that piece. A true collectors item.
This guy makes any amp or instruments sound phenomenal
