Vast majority of United flights on that route use the 757-200, the plane choices in this video definitely advantaged delta who uses mostly uses 767-300er on that route and disadvantaged united.
The sad part is 95% of the people who view this video won’t understand the difference. This is effectively a hit piece against us and aa from pod delta ships Ls. Give me a break. TPG lost credibility a long time ago.
How the heck can you claim 9-abreast on a 787 is better than 10-abreast 777? They are about 0.1 to 0.2 " of difference in United fleet. United has the worst seat in the sky, no matter how you chop and dice. 9-abreast on 787 defines the word "densified." People claim United has good seats generally have no idea what they are talking about until they fly the other airlines.
So crazy that I was 100% thinking the same thing!! ON my United flight to LAX I've flown on one 777, but the rest have been the 787 Dreamliner. When I tell you the difference is NOTICEABLE, I have no idea why anyone would fly on the cramped 777 over the spacious Dreamliner
Surprised that American offers complimentary meals in economy on a domestic flight. Though that could be just a transcon thing. For me this shows how much low-cost carriers have influenced the competition everywhere.
Its interesting to see the difference between planes AND airlines. Marc in the middle seat of an old 777 with 3-4-3 seating and Nicky in the window seat of a new A330-900 neo 2-4-2 seating is a huge difference. Service on Delta is always good and due to location, what I fly. Great comparison - still feeling bad for Marc - I hate the middle seat.
Thank you for making a “Basic Economy” review since that is all I fly in! Being in Minneapolis, Delta is king and, from the looks of it, I have been spoiled. I fly MSP-AMS annually and it’s either Delta or KLM and both offer excellent basic economy experiences.
I would have done the United flight on the 757-200 and the Delta on the 767-300er as those are what the respective airlines use on most New York to Los Angeles routes, Delta definitely got an advantage with the a330neo which isn’t used on that route too often, with united getting a disadvantage from the densely configured 777, still great video as always though
I always try to avoid those domestic 777s. I fly EWR-SFO a lot and they used to fly mostly international 777s with 1 or 2 757-200s per-day. Now they use the domestic 777s on a couple flights every day and I work hard to avoid them.
Love additions like popping the countries up when mentoning global entry. Love that y'all try to improve the edit everytime I've watched a cabin review.
The thing about Delta and United is that they are almost always fully booked on these domestic flights. Every time I book American, there's just a ton of empty seats for me to have additional space! But of course, Delta among the 3 has the best on the ground, In-flight and service recovery services.
It's always Delta or JetBlue for me. Delta cos they either have 2-3-2 (767s) or 2-4-2 (A330s). Love the 2 seat window section to fly with a companion. JetBlue for the legroom and free WiFi.
United's check in area at EWR seemed empty because that's at level 3, where their business class, first class and high tier passengers check in. For the real economy experience, we should have seen level 2.
I fly Delta alot for work. I normally fly comfort+ on all domestic routes or try exit row seating since most flight times tend to average 2-3 hrs when connecting thru hubs. Delta really shines on customer service and ontime reliability.
Still waiting for you guys to do Alaska airlines transcon in first class. Food is good and service is good. No personal IFE. Etc. so pros and cons and curious what you think. You could compare main cabin to premium to first class. 😊
That is a good choice there is a catch to it if Alaska Airlines sees you are a British Airways executive club Oneworld emerald/sapphire they can simply let you into the lounge even though you are flying transcontinental first class.
Great video as usual. Nice to see a report for economy class. However, how can you compare products when one of you were in the middle seat and the other 2 were in the window seats. Poor Marc!!
Alaska Air remains my favorite US domestic carrier, and they do have some trans-continental flights. Being from the PNW and being used to them having a very large presence in that region of the country, I always forget how much of an afterthought the seem to be in the rest of the nation.
Love these videos but they really aren't comparisons since the cabin products are from different eras. You can't compare Delta's brand new A330-900neos to an aged out United 777. I feel like these videos would be more informative if you did head to head comparisons with seats from the same era (e.g. new Delta vs new American vs new United). I'm sure anyone using TPG probably takes aircraft type into account when booking travel anyway!
Why should that be? Airlines sell these seats in old aircraft, so it's only fair that they should be shown as such. If I have the choice, I always choose the airline with the modern cabin product.
@@BaBa-rs2pg you're missing the point - Delta usually use exclusively a 30+ years old 767 on JFK-LAX, this A330-900neo is a rare seasonal plane repositioning schedule, so it's not really a fair comparison to the usual Delta experience. United uses a mix of ancient 757, high density 772, refurbished 777 and new 787. AA uses the A321T exclusively. Also, I don't think the purchased snack box on Delta is a fair comparison either since it's an extra purchase, not an included service.
As an old dude (well, 51) I was wondering if you gentlemen have ever been on the older vintage jets I flew as a child. Like the old 707s, 727s, DC9s, Lockheed L-1011s, etc.? They definitely looked distinctive; whereas today's jets all look pretty much the same.
Just recently found your videos and really enjoying them, thank you. Would love to see a little more if a side by side wrap up at the end and maybe sharing what the cost in $ and points was? I know the price can change a lot but having that as a metric to judge the experience off of would help a lot.
Had to laugh about Liam complaining about no hot food on American. He was lucky to get what he got since it was a premium route because on standard routes including Miami to Los Angeles which is 6 hours you get one biscoff cookies and a drink and that is it for the entire flight.
It depends on the airlines and I have been on several of them recently where there was only one service, especially on American. Recently I was on an American flight from Miami to Los Angeles on a A321 and they had only one service despite being an hour late due to a broken overhead bin that had to be fixed before we left Miami.
@@dennisng4798 I have flown American Airlines, no lie, and they play the "the flight is a short one, so no complimentary service" or "there is going to be turbulence and for the safety of our attendants, we are not going to be offering the service." The funny thing for me is the last American flight I took didn't have the screen, it had the holder like the United flight had. I was also on an A321 so I feel a little gipped. Then again I think my flight was about 2-3 hours.
Exactly I went from Tokyo to Seoul and it was a 2 hour flight and got a big meal last month on Korean Air and in August I went from RDU to LAX and it was a 5 hour flight on Delta and only got snacks and drinks. The trip to LA was around $600 and to Seoul was around $400
Interesting, last summer when I flew Delta also to LA, it was a 3/3 configuration rather than this 2/4/2, and the screens were definitely smaller - this was from Detroit though, so ig that extra bit of distance gets you quite a bigger plane!
Not to be a hater or anything(I love the Points Guy), but as an avid United fan, I will say that United was at a disadvantage in this review, as the crew booked poor Marc a middle seat, in basic economy, on one of the not so good high density United 777! Still a great video though keep up the good work guys!
Delta does not offer complimentary alcohol in economy. If it was, you were either being told that because they were going to comp you, knowing you’re with The Points Guy. Or, you were seated in Delta Comfort, in which case there’s no apples to apples review.
i dont know if you guys get these comments, i wonder if anyone that is afan know of any apple ipad app that would be a media player with an interface similar to what you see on airplane flights. Back in 2007 i did some flying to Korea to work. I miss the interface for the movies/tv shows they had on the plane. It was enjoyable to use.
The A321 Transcon is one of my favorite planes I regularly fly. There's only 100 people on that plane, which makes the boarding and deplaning easier and, even in Economy, the service is much better because of how small the cabin is. The meal is always a nice plus too. Only annoying thing is the lack of pillow and blanket. I once flew it for a redeye and was shocked they didn't provide. A flight attendant blamed it on COVID. Not mad at him, but I call that a steaming load of bullshit.
i really don’t get why american/european airlines include hot food on their flights. asian airlines do them even if the flight time is 1hour-ish (e.g. HKG-TPE, SIN-KUL)
Lufthansa's regular economy service on shorter routes is comparable to Anadolu and Pegasus, Turkish budget (!) airlines, this includes food, entertainment etc.

This is a great comparison. Domestic US airlines need to step it up if they want to win over middle eastern & Asian airlines’ long haul flights. They’re lucky the competition in the US is limited 😅
It's got to be a post-lockdown change that none of these carriers offered a full meal service. I flew basic economy LA to NYC before 2020 and on every flight we had a full hot meal service, plus a round or two of snacks. I just wonder if the change is because of lingering pandemic restrictions, or if it's because of cost to the carrier.
On the latter two Airlines American Airlines and United if you own a foreign FFQ like 🇩🇪🇦🇹 Miles and More 🇹🇭 Royal Orchid Plus 🇯🇵 🇰🇷Asiana Club 🇹🇼Infintymileage Star Alliance Gold you actually gain domestic lounge access. In the Case of AA/AS you are going to need the following Oneworld emerald/sapphire Asia Miles🇭🇰 Qantas FFQ🇦🇺 🇯🇵JMB 🇬🇧British airways executive club, which will enable you to use AA Admirals club domestic lounges. In the case of Virgin Atlantic, you might need the flying club to be at Skyteam Elite Plus tier to use a Skyclubs if permitted to do so.
I'm delighted you did this. Not nearly enough economy reviews out there. Thank you.
If you did United on the 787-10, the economy seat/offering would be miles above the high-dense domestic economy 777.
Vast majority of United flights on that route use the 757-200, the plane choices in this video definitely advantaged delta who uses mostly uses 767-300er on that route and disadvantaged united.
