- No structured workouts - No routing or navigation - No maps - No music - No contactless payments - No sleep or activity tracking - No watch time alarms - No training load, recover, or other physiological type metrics Let's hope they will continue developing the software like they did for Elemnt series.
They do have updates coming with the mapping and navigation. They have timers and stopwatch functions. I'm sure many other features are coming in due course. They did reiterate to us that their primary aim was to create a good and well-performing watch above anything else. Perhaps we will see some of these other bits at a later date
No decent companion software, reduced supported sensors, display nothing special, battery life nothing special, i see absolutely no reason to get me that watch at all.
I'm excited to checkout this one. I really like Wahoo products and I can't wait to test the Touchless Transition. I've only crashed my bike 7 times while hitting the split button on the bike. Just think about all of that time and money saving of having the watch do it itself. Thanks for always making these quality videos!
A well timed video! I may be in the minority, but the “lack” of features such as sleep monitoring, training load, and music appeals to me. A lot of tri accomodating (specifically swim functionality) watches seem to be jam packed with features I don’t ever think I’ll use. Only issue is it’s not available in my country yet!
The automatic transition feature makes this watch great on race day but the lack of other features means it can't compete with Garmin for training and everyday wear yet. It looks very stylish though and I'll be keeping a close eye on future iterations.
I love the idea of not pressing buttons between transitions. I wonder how accurate it is. I would definitely want to try it out a few times before race day.
regarding treadmill running - you were showing zwift run at the same time - does this watch broadcast out data via bluetooth in a similar way to certain garmin models such as the forerunner 945 does with the virtual run feature
So does Wahoo have a waterproof HR monitor or is the claim that the watch is just as accurate? Does it therefore make a Tickr redundant if you have the watch?
Undoubtedly a very nice unit but it will come down to brand preference. I prefer wahoo on the bike(s) but that is only because polar does not have an alternative. Can't say anything bad about the wahoo elemnt range though.
I like wahoo. After 3 kickr I fell a wahooligan but...is it not possible to make custom workouts when running? Or when I ride my kickr? Something easy like warm up - 10x400 - cool down. I think wahoo have to improve wahoo APP, for having custom workout. Not so difficult, but...hurry up that I want to this watch!
Looks good but then so do its competitors at similar price points. Also is hands free triathlon setting really that great at detecting exactly when the transition starts and ends. Surely pressing a button is going to be more trustworthy & you know that an accurate transition has definitely been recorded (unless of course you do occasionally forget then I will concede its usefulness). I am getting the sense that these companies are just looking at what their competitors don't offer and then speccing that whatever the function is whether particularly useful or not. However did we manage before Polar's Jump Fatigue Test? Also I personally would probably trust Polar or Garmin who have a track record across many years and so theirs are not Gen 1 devices or apps. The problem for Wahoo, in that case, is by Wahoo Gen 2 users will have been sucked (& data locked) into their competitors' ecosystem (as I already am) in the same way Apple/Android does. It will probably be one for Wahoo's current clients I suspect in the same way Apple & Android users rarely cross-pollinate once onboarded. But at least more competition does keep the pseudoscience progressing onwards and creatives/marketeers in work.
I totally hear you. Although, I can say from using it recently that I have been impressed. It uses the same slick system as the ELEMNT computers, so it really does work well and quickly. They have more functions to be released with time. With regards to the transition question, they did note that you can tweak the start and end within the app afterwards
@@Chardler83 both are fantastic. Personally I’m really sold on the Wahoo interface, and it’s ease of use. For instance on their bike computers, you can create a route in Komoot. Without the press of a button, it automatically appears on your bike computer. I believe it will be the same for the watch soon too.
They had to start somewhere, right? I mean, I'm not interested in this watches at all, like my Forerunners. However I enjoy new product in the market and looking forward to their evolution.
@@parkerkerth8446 garmin edge 1000 was garbage didnt work slow laggy had to plug into my computer to transfer routes as files across.. Not for me thanks. Gave out im the end and i moved to the elemnt bolt and it was like night and day
I like Wahoo. I own some of their products, too. But the Rival isn't really a rival to... anyone. Objectively it lacks features from all it's competiters (Coros, Suunto, Garmin, Polar etc). Even compared to cheaper priced products. A big dissapointment and low value-for-money 🤷🏻♂️😬
I couldn't be more disappointed. I was hoping to have a real alternative to Garmin (watch + bike computer in the same ecosystem), but this is not good. The Forerunner 35 I bought 4 years ago still does more, and I'm 3 generations past that now. They missed the mark by A LOT. Other reviews I've seen also really call into question HR and GPS accuracy. To me this is a big black eye for Wahoo. Their products are so good! This is such a dud it's almost comical. There's no excuse to release something in this price point without onboard music capabilities in 2020. No training plans, no live segments, no training effect, no all day HR, no sleep monitoring, no body battery or similar, no courses, very limited activity profiles. Come on guys.....
Team Garmin dog. Mark...why are you hyping that it can record treadmill distance? All watches in this category can do that without a pod, but they're notoriously inaccurate!
If you want a real review and not a paid informercial, hop over to DC Rainmaker. This ‘review’ was probably the worst example I have seen. He has the gall to call this game changing and it doesn’t even have basic features of other wearables released three years ago. The supporting app is crap. I have a Bolt so I am not a Wahoo hater but this watch is a major miss. Confirming zero credibility GTN.
Wahoo Rival very disappointed with this watch, not syncing properly, missing data, sleep tracker stopped working after 3 days. Wahoo support team not responding now
Having used this for sometime now, I can tell you that it's far from second quality. I've used garmins, polars, the lot. If you have used wahoo units before, you'll know that they're miles ahead in terms of user interface, data transfer and general usability.

beautiful b roll
What I wouldn’t handle is the huge amount of updates it would have comparing to the element bolt... every week there is something new
Apart from the optical hear rate sensor its the same as my good old 920xt , even the charging looks the same
I already fell in love with this one! looks great! And the specs are also interesting, price point is really good IMO
do u still have to bring your phone for running in order to track gps?
Thanks for the competition 🤞😀

Just bought my Fenix 6 pro ...wahoo!!!
Rival wahoo watch is not recording swiming pool data. How to fix this issue, the update did not help.
Ever since Suunto messed up their platforms I was waiting for a wahoo watch, cause I already have an Elemnt Bolt and a Tickr. Awesome!
The antagonist of Garmin!! Best product ever
Interesting... why do you need the watch to hand over to a bike computer? can't this do everything, or do i need both?
Can’t believe it’s here really. I have said since I purchased my element bolt that wahoo should release a sport watch and it’s here 😃
I ordered it this morning! Cheers!
glad to see more choice in this segment of the market
Can you download preset training sessions from training peaks, todays plan etc. ??? So far I understand is this so far only possible with Garmin.
Nope See DC rainmakers review for full breakdown
