Love your channel. Have you heard Demen Nektyr? it's on Kranky records 2017 release🙂 super great record very Cocteau,Dead Can Dance ambient sounds I really think you'll dig it if you don't already own it.
I didnt know it was RSD yesterdqy but found myself in a 2nd and Charles store that has a lot of records and cds. I stumbled across The Mighty Lemon Drops used copy of Happy Head plus Out of Hand on one disc for $5 and change. I remember when Dave Kendall presented one of thier videos on 120 Minutes when Mtv was cool in the late 80s, early 90s. I thought they were ok at the time, being only 15 years old. I ended up getting 8 cds, all used, for under $40. I was most unsure of this MLD album, assuming it was probably not one of thier best. Well, it was the first one i had to listen to and love it! Its a pleasant suprise that you also chose a MLD album.
Hey Rob! Thanks for watching. Sounds like you took home a really nice haul. The Mighty Lemon Drops are really underrated and it's great to see their final album get a second life here for RSD - it's quite a good album. And who knows... maybe this will inspire them to get back together! :)
Got the Bowie and Sisters of Mercy, luckily, the last copies.. No Cranberries at my store. Scored nicely though with Thin Lizzy, At the Drive-In, Malfunkshun, Television, Sponge, Jim Croce, and Jazz Dispensery.
That's a great haul. I'm a huge Thin Lizzy fan and had a hard time saying no to the live release. I have the CD box set that came out a couple years ago that collected all of those shows in their entirety. Thanks for watching.
My store had none of that stuff, did get the Fun Boy Three compilation which is pretty cool, and the sparks double album set, just depends on the supply I guess
Very cool you were able to get the Sparks / Noel combo pack. It was at the top of my list, but unfortunately it was super scarce around here. Did manage to score a copy this morning though! :)
For us who are fans of the funk, the Parliament debut is not that great. To corky sounding, sloppy kind of funk, things get much better on the next album. The one to get was the Westbound collection, that’s a winner. Sister’s of Mercy was an excellent selection of tunes from two eps. Another favorite was the Joe Strummer album, great tunes on his debut album with his new band. My store was out of the Bowie but I think that one will be rereleased soon.
That's a great haul, Mark. I'm curious about the extra material on The Rain Parade release. I ended up passing on it, as I have the original LP. Curious what you think.
Definitely give it a listen when you get the chance. A nice segue album, bridging the first era of Echo to the second era. Looking forward to seeing what you picked up for RSD.
hey bret! nice!! always love seeing fellow vc creators! fun vlog... THAT LAUFEY IS INSANELY GOOD. working on posting my haul. been subbed for awhile so I'll keep bein back! keep on groovin your way -mark
Hi Bret , some of the prices in the UK this year are ridiculous, the Electrafixion album is £40 (nearly $50) ! I noticed on one of Mazzy's videos that it was $25 (I could see the price label)......
Hey John! Wow, $50 is a lot! About half of the items that we got were between 24-29$, so I was quite content with the pricing on those. I don't recall that being the case with the last RSD, but I could be mistaken.I think that Electrafixion is a must-have for you. There were a couple items from the UK list that I was interested in, that I'm going to have to try and track down! What all did you grab?
@@BretHelmsLifeOnThisPlanetBlog Bret , Jesse is going to try and grab a copy of the Eltrafixion for me , prices were high in the UK this time generally in the £30 to £40 mark. I got Kirsty MacColl ,Joe Strummer , Chet Baker and the Scott Walker reissue all on Monday ! Ive also ordered Pulp and Charlatans from Rough Trade for guess who? What UK items are you after , I can see if Rough Trade still have them?
I'm going to have to film a Part 2, as Sarah ended up grabbing mostly everything else we were after from stores across the country. The one that eluded us, because it was so ridiculous limited, was the Dolores O'Riordan. It's a long shot, but if you do come across that one or the live Peter Murphy album, we would appreciate it! The PM was a UK-only release. Sounds like you ended up with a pretty great haul there!
hi Bret, happy RSD. Always good to see what you got, some great stuff there. Lines were as long as I've ever seen them at my store, and I didn't get in the shop til after 1 PM but I did manage to get most of what I wanted. I think it was a great list, but people were buying less titles from what I observed, me included. I'll check out the stuff from the video that's new to me as always, and I'm glad you had a good Record Store Day.
Do you think they were buying less because of sticker shock? There were several titles I wanted but then I saw they were $60 or 70 bucks for a two LP I couldn’t make myself give them my money. It just wasn’t worth it for me.
Hey James! Sounds like you had a good day as well. Glad to hear you got most of what you were after. There were so many great titles on the list this year, and no matter how many times I looked at the list, there seems to be ones that I hadn't noticed that I'm seeing shown in videos. :)
Awesome pickups. I grabbed the Electrafixion, which was my number 1 pick. So excited to gave it. I got Malfunkshun, Hives, GBI, and the Television Live. I went kind of nuts this time. Lol.
Hey, Bret. I had a limited budget so I only picked up a few RSD titles. My must-have was the Bowie release. Then I was able to get the O.M.D. Junk Culture demos and the Sonic Youth compilation. There were a few others I would’ve loved to have but unfortunately the higher prices on some of them dissuaded my decision. I did end up getting Slowdive’s Just for a Day and remembered how amazing that album is from that ranking video you guys did a while back. I figured if some of the titles are still around in the future, I’ll consider picking them up. A lot of times they get reduced after a couple weeks anyway. Great video as always. Take care!
Hey Steve! Sounds like you took home some gems. I had the OMD Junk Culture demos on my list, but didn't come across a copy. Have you had a chance to listen? Glad to hear you grabbed Slowdive's debut! Thanks for watching.
@@BretHelmsLifeOnThisPlanetBlog I have listened to the OMD release and it’s fantastic. The b-sides are great and the extended version of Talking Loud and Clear (one of my favorites by them) is the highlight. Of course I’m a little biased when it comes to OMD. Definitely in my top 3 synthpop groups.
I love that you are very thorough! Great pickups! I was not able to get the three records I wanted from my list. However, I was able to get a copy of Gandalf and Sevendust.
@@BretHelmsLifeOnThisPlanetBlog the original pressing of Gandalf goes for so much! I am glad they repressed it for RSD for a reasonable price. I love the sound. They remind me of the Beatles a bit.
Love seeing the vinyl, but RSD is a MASSIVE Rip off. I wish people would stop supporting such things. Prices will go up and up until people realise they are being totally taken for complete Mugs. The people behind this are laughing all the way to the bank
RSD isn't a perfect affair, but around half of the records that I showed were between 23-29$. Calling that a massive rip off is a stretch. Yeah, the price of some double albums I saw pushed the boundaries of what's comfortable for sure, but have you been in a store recently to see non-RSD pricing? Pretty common that double records sell for over 40$ and 1LP pushing over 30$. Not always, but prices keep rising. The new Pearl Jam & Taylor Swift were 46$. But how cool is it that some of these RSD reissues give a long-out-of-print record a second life and a chance for rediscovery. And the added attention by being on the RSD list justifies its reissue, whereas it may not be successful enough any other time of year.
Love your channel. Have you heard Demen Nektyr? it's on Kranky records 2017 release🙂 super great record very Cocteau,Dead Can Dance ambient sounds I really think you'll dig it if you don't already own it.
