Good job with the dry icing the dirt out of the interior of the plane. It was my first time seeing how that worked. Super interesting, thanks for posting this video😊
We had one of those Cold Jet units in the factory I worked as an engineer in and used it to clean up oxidized polymers from extrusion dies. Hey Jason, great job to all the crew. And to all those that talk about how much it will cost verses a new plane, that's not the reason this is being done, a new 55 chevy 2 door was 800 bucks...a fully restored one is easily north of 40 grand. The cool of old school is still cool !!!
Please make sure you check out all the wiring in the fuselage for brakes, short circuits, and rodent damage, whilst you have easy access to everything. I have seen "avionics sparkeys" (wiring guys) throwing themselves onto blunt screwdrivers whilst trying to trace and track down wiring faults ! Early attention to the wiring fit will pay dividends on any aircraft rebuild. Also, you will need to wire the aircraft with a basic setup so you can fly the aircraft to an avionics company for a new avionics fit, unless the avionics company can come to your workshop location instead. Either way, the more wiring you can "pre-fit" prior to the "final fit out" will make life so much easier in the long run.

Incredible job really. This plane could never have flown to begin with. Now, all they have to do is put it back together again. I don't know what a plane like this would cost "new" but surely they will have put almost as much into this rebuild.
Haha guys I've been waiting for this. But man, that dry-ice blasting looks like cleaning a bathroom with toothbrushes! The dedication one needs... Yeah, as always - u have my deepest respect for that haha. Have a great one. (to the stranger - you look 10 years younger :))
That dry ice in that container would probably cost $2,000 at my local grocery store. While the dry ice machine works great, it still looks like eating an elephant to complete that whole interior. You guys have way more motivation than I can even imagine!

@@rebuildrescue i was wondering about all the adhesive for the insulation and stuff not touched in the interior. Does the dry ice blaster not hurt the sheathing on the wires?
Normally i would suggest to have a vacum driectly next to the dry ice blaster to catch lots of it but ... its a bit to tight spaces to do that decently
3:21 Probably the hoses go in like piston rings go inside a cylinder bore: using a thin sheet metal sleeve (with possibly a taper/horn on the end) set in the hole in the beam or bulkhead compressing the foam insulation as you pull through the vent hose...
First video I saw on that dry ice machine Pretty much thought the thing was a gimmick But after that each one that went by , I am firm believer in it, incredible job well done.

Just happened on this channel. Rather glad I did! I find this restore/rebuild quite interesting. Not many who restore or rebuild aircraft show what you show. I love those prop planes. Infact, I much prefer them over the jets although they're great planes as well. But, there's nothing like the sound of a prop engine doing it's thing. My dad used to take me to the base to watch the planes land and I was totally fascinated by them. That was in the mid 60's. Being maybe 4 yrs old the wheels looked to me like knee joints, didn't know those round black things were called the wheels and the struts looked like legs to me thus, the round wheels I aquiated with knees. Use to asked my dad to take me to watch the planes land on their knees! Anyway, I spent the last 3 days watch this build from the time you got the plane from Sam thru the most current video. Fascinating! I could be jealous and envious that I don't have such a plane. Always wanted to fly but couldn't afford lessons for a pilots license much nor rent a plane to fly much less own even a small plane. You all doing great work on that plane. Waiting for more videos on putting it back together again! Keep on keeping on!!!

The way your Rebuilding the 401 will make it better than factory. It will be the Newest one on the planet. I have worked on aircraft for the Air Force and I know how much time and very diligent work goes into what you are doing. I have been watching your shows since you found the 401. Most people do not know how many books you have to follow for any single repair much less a whole aircraft. Hats off to the crews you have to work on the 401.

Us too ! Thank you for being apart of the Rescue Crew Dan !
