  • This is Serge Shematsi. This was probably my most evenly matched opponent of the day.
    THINGS I DID WELL:
From watching his earlier matches, I knew that he liked to hit a drop seoi, and he had attempted a tomoe nage in a match too, so I knew if I came charging in he'd drop or roll under.
Nice throw for waza ari at 1:28. I remembered Aaron talking to me over and over about just sitting down. I didn't quite just sit down, but threw and scored. NOW THAT I WATCH THAT AGAIN, WHY TF WASN'T THAT IPPON????? The ref even signaled ippon. I know we're both in blue and that can cause confusion, but HOLY CRAP, he rolled all the way across his back from my throw, and at worst I landed on my side.
    THINGS I NEED TO IMPROVE:
WHY AM I LETTING PEOPLE GRIP FIRST???
Attempt a Sasae at :32, but I don't turn, I just lean back and try to swing.
Very poor uchi attempt at :38. I've got a cross grip, and it does move him, but I end up in bad position after.
At :52 seconds, I've thrown him, but no score. I lifted the legs and should have stepped through to turk. I know it would entangle our legs, but would have put him on his back and who knows what happens then.
When I get that deep underhook, like I have at 1:22, I need to clamp it down with both hands and bump them down to the mat.
Went to the well one time too many with my backwards throw. I've got to just keep good hip position and step in front.
