      Glad it helped. I should share my experience with you. The Chinese motor you used to replace the German motor will last less than 2 years.
      I know this because I used to replace the motors in these for years back in 2015. I did hundreds of them. They all failed within 2 years. That’s why we started using the electronic emulator instead. It’s a permanent fix. If you need one of these in the future. We provide that service.

    I just did this tonight on my 2012 GLK350 Base. Got the ESL out, took forever. Used a T5 Torx bit to remove the roll pins. I tried to be really careful pulling out the circuit board but the black arm jumped off. This video was spot on and I was able to get it back together with the new motor and back into the care. Works great, no issues to report.
    If this thing should fail again I am going to be contacting you for an emulator.

      @@mercedesbenzspecialist Thank you for the reply! I have since discovered that my Mercedes is fitted with the earlier steering lock with the larger cylindrical motor. I obtained a 2nd hand motor to investigate what could go wrong. I found minimal wear on the brushes, but a lot of carbon powder throughout the motor leading me to suspect that the carbon could lead to shorting of the armature slots. I have cleaned the motor with contact cleaner and will install to check how well it works.

    Brilliant video dude! got a quick question. mine unfortunately Is stuck in the locked position, I’ve seen I can drill a small hole and manually spin the cog to unlock and remove the esl, to then replace the motor. Will the car notice on the next plug in that it is open when I reinstall in the open position following your steps or will it need reprogramming because the last thing it knew was it was locked? (I can hear the ticking noise when insert the key)

    • @mercedesbenzspecialist

      It will not need programming. Keep in mind that replacing the motor is a temporary solution. The Chinese motor you purchased will last 1-2 years. It will fail again. The best solution is to replace that factory ESL with an electronic emulator. You can check out our emulator programming service on our website: mercedesbenzspecialist.net

    • @mercedesbenzspecialist

      The common problems are issues with the esl box especially if it’s been drilled. The metal burrs can interfere with movement of the plastic gears.
      Also the Chinese motor used to replace the German motor does not last nearly as long.
      For these reasons I recommend the ESL emulator.

    • @mercedesbenzspecialist
      @mercedesbenzspecialist  Рік тому

      Hello, I've never tried that. It's much easier to use an electronic emulator to replace the factory ESL. If you must keep the factory ESL, you can get a used or rebuilt one that has an unlocked NEC chip. You would need to "renew" it, then write the data from the EIS to the ESL.

  • @georgewhite3379
    @georgewhite3379 Місяць тому

    Wait...so you can't just go to Mercedes, purchase a new ESL, plug it in and be good to go? Mine is currently stuck in an unlock state (which I believe I got lucky). But even in this case the new ESL from Mercedes will still need to be programmed? No plug and play?

    • @mercedesbenzspecialist

      That's right. It needs to be programmed. Also, Mercedes will not sell you just the part alone. It's on their TRP (Theft Related Parts) list. You must purchase it from them and have it installed and programmed by them. BIG BUCKS!!! $2500 if they are in a good mood.

      If you followed the instructions in the video, and it still did not work. The circuit board is locked. It won't work anymore. You must replace it with either a emulator or another factory ESL. Both will require programming. The emulator is the clear choice for reliability. The factory ESL will last about 18-24 months before it fails again. The Chinese manufactured motor does not last 10-12 years like the original German manufactured motor does.

    • @mercedesbenzspecialist
      @mercedesbenzspecialist  9 місяців тому +2

      No, removing the locking pin will not bypass the system.
      It’s not the locking pin that causes a no crank no start situation.
      Inside the esl there is a circuit board. When the small motor inside the esl actuates, a gear moves a plastic arm that depresses two switches on that circuit board. Those two switches send a signal two the ignition switch signifying that the correct key is being used. Basically, the two switches give a green light for “Drive Authorization”.
      If the motor doesn’t move, those two switches do not give authorization to start the car. You get a no crank situation.
