  • See the Čierny Hron Railway from an unusual view point. I was having difficulty finding a place to mount a camera on the little steam locomotive that was to haul our train along part of the Čierny Hron Railway. The lamp bracket was too wide for the mount I was using and time was running out, so I clamped the camera to a step under the cab.

    Thanks Tim, a very enjoyable journey. The only soccer stadium in the world where they have an official's time out for the train. And that engine has a vacuum attachment to pull out river water.

      Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I found this on You Tube, I think you'll enjoy it at around 01.50 the train passes through the stadium and the game just carries on - ua-cam.com/video/5RPF4TezIno/v-deo.html
      This was the first time I've seen water taken from a river, I thought Thomas the Tank engine was the only engine to do this.

      Thanks, Tim, for interesting link! I very glad that this small locomotives haven't sunk into oblivion. As for the steam pump, this is very reasonable and quite simple adaptation on the locomotive: just switching the steam from boiler. Because it allows you to fill the loco with water even where there is no especial RW water pump, but there are rivers on the route of the train. This is an example of simplicity and genius of technical solutions of our ancestors.

      Hi Chuck, as an engineer, I appreciate what goes into these remarkable little locomotives, I have a lot of respect for those who created them, especially when one remembers they didn't have the modern machinery available to them that we take for granted these days.

    • @chucksandos8939
      @chucksandos8939 6 років тому

      Of course, it was these old engineers who possessed a remarkable ability: to be as creative as possible, and with the desire to make certain product as simple possible! Alas, over time, both qualities, literally before my eyes, devalue... And I'm more and more convinced that even 'abundance' of purely technical possibilities acts on people in about the same way, as the notorious "abundance" of socalled 'material abundance' of this civilization... Briefly: by they there comes an obesity of brains, alas! :-(

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому

      I love to study old machinery, you can see the pride of the original craftsmen in the way it is finished, no sharp edges, pleasing to look at. I finish my own work to the highest standard possible, because I believe, a well finished product sends the right message to a would be customer. Today, time dictates it only needs to be finished to the point where it works, depriving engineers of the satisfaction that comes from a job well done, ignoring the fact that a contented engineer will work better, saving time in the long run. Technical advances bring many opportunities, but they are also fraught with dangers, just look at the amount of plastic waste on our beaches, one man's profit is another man's nightmare without strong leadership and good government. The 5 pence bag tax in the UK has bought a huge drop in the number of plastic bags being thrown onto waste dumps. This sort of tax should be spread to include all consumables to a point where manufacturers and suppliers look for better, more environmentally friendly alternatives.

      Hi Gareth, I'm pleased you enjoyed it, we were very lucky with the weather for most of our tour, just a couple of short showers in the whole two weeks.

    i should have known by the excellence of the video production it was one of your's Tim ! i just saw the thumbnail and clicked without noticing you. Very interesting and enjoyable - one of the best video pastimes on Y/T !
    If you ever get to Japan, there's another very quirky, scary but fascinating railway i'm sure you'd love to video. The Tateyama switchback works railway. Narrow guage, sheer drops and diesel worked. ( it runs right by the tourist funicular system, but is much more interesting. OR, you could do the Kisuki line ( JR West) which you'd also enjoy immensly. Shinjii to Bingo Ochaii ( 67km approx)

      Thank you, I appreciate your comment. You are making Japan sound very tempting, I'll be on the lookout for a rail-tour encompassing the railways you mention. I'd better get a bit more overtime in and start saving.

      Hello again, Tim! I wait with impatience your new movies. And in the meantime, as a joke: Welcome 'back to future', dear Sirs! "AMAZING Steam Powered Vehicles": ua-cam.com/video/M3uvSKtkbdE/v-deo.html Hmmm... Steam car like here 6m39s+ is best to move my mortal body on this sinful Earth, hahaha! :-) /Alas, I cannot do this anymore.../ But my spirit flies about like this VTOLs: ua-cam.com/video/oqHe_dBFnYo/v-deo.html and here, at first two flights: ua-cam.com/video/f1E9jtE1aAk/v-deo.html -- so above the Earth. /But any modern WOW-'gadgets' alike 'selfie grones' haven't interest for me. A fascinating angle! I'm not quite sure if it's unique though(it may have been done before but I'm not sure). On the downside, the risk is great to the camera should anything bigger than twigs hit it. As it happened there were a few here and there but the camera escaped unscathed....Whew! Great video, Tim! And be careful of those ghostly bicyclists! LOL

      I had a few moments to attach the camera and the lamp bracket was too wide for the bracket I was using, so opted to attach it to the loco steps with the result you have just watched. I noticed the camera did brush through the grass on occasions.

    • @neilforbes416

      I sure am happy your camera did not meet with a trackside boulder. That would've been calamitous for your camera and set you back a few hundred Pounds to replace it. That was the risk you ran in placing your camera in such a position. Still it DID provide for an interesting slant on the trip. Cheers!

    Hello Tim, beside wheel view ride linked webpage 'history of Waldbahnen and esp. Čierny Hron Railway' is interesting, too.
    At Gallery of this website there is foto steam loco hauled train passes stadium while soccer game. Not sure whether game has break.
    Did you not had worry camera would be torn down?
    Heinz

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому

      Hello Heinz, I often look up other websites to learn more about the railways I visit, some of the old photographs are wonderful, showing how things used to be. This recent UA-cam video shows the football match doesn't stop when a train passes through - ua-cam.com/video/5RPF4TezIno/v-deo.html I do wonder if the camera will still be there at the end of the trip, but sometimes it is necessary to take that risk to get a different view. It is usually the vibration the cameras are subject to when mounted on the front of trains that eventually causes then to stop working.

      Thank you, Tim, for link to soccer match. Perhaps suddenly appearing of train together with whistling of steam loco confused foreign team so much home team won match 5:1?

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 років тому +1

      The team would be silly not to use their home advantage, they have probably arranged with the railway when trains are to pass through the stadium to gain maximum advantage from the commotion and whistle blowing.
