Watched your race review from 2022 Chester then got this video recommended! See you Sunday! 😅 love the content also, good production and nice to see a real life runner instead of some influencer type 🤣 good luck Sunday!
Yes that’s probably the hardest bit, holding yourself back early on. The weather seems to change every 5 minutes at the moment! All the best for Sunday…..
Hoping to run around 3:12 on Sunday , thinking of setting off at 3:15 pace for first 10 miles and see how I’m feeling from there . Cautious of not setting out too quick aswell. Good luck with your race
Consistency is the key going out to quick = pain in the 2nd half. When I did Manchester I ran the first half 1hr28.14 and the second half 1hr28.28 only felt tired last 2k where I had to dig
Hey Adam, stupid question incoming.... so my first marathon race is rapidly approaching (York, on the 20th). What do I do about... hydration? I've never done a race longer than 10k so it wasn't an issue in those and in training I've always carried water. What would you recommend? Do I carry my water (probably not ideal - quite a bit of extra weight), or use the aid stations or bit of both ie. maybe take a soft flask 'in case' but use the aid stations? Also, do I hit every one or... (there are 8 apparently so I guess I'll have to?) I'm going for what I hope is an attainable but by no means relaxed goal so I don't really want to stop / slow down too much if I can help it. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Not a stupid question. I normally recommend to drink small amounts frequently, especially in warmer conditions. If you can manage the 5-10k (I assume) between aid stations without water/fluid, I wouldn’t carry any and use the support available. If you need to drink more frequently, then carry some with you. Also don’t drink too much, that can cause issues in a marathon……👍🏻

Thanks Jack, that’s the aim; open and honest and true to life.
Have you ran Chester before?

Good luck at Chester, Adam!
Thanks Sam, looking forward to having another go at the marathon……👍🏻
See you at Chester. Hopefully we both don’t get too excited at the start and behave pace wise. I’m on weather watch at the moment

I’ll be marshalling around mile 2 and will look out for you. Good luck
Thanks! Is that the top of the hill on canal street? I should be moving okay still at that point….😆

Sounds like a plan Callum. All the best, hope you get your goal 👍🏻

Exactly, it’s just making sure the pace you set out at, is the pace you can maintain…..
