Great video. Ive been running on and off for years. Always stopping around the 7Km (3.5Miles). Last year i restarted again, making 2 big changes. 1. Setting a long term goal. Saying "i will run a half marathon next year." Was a mind changer. It wasnt for weight loss anymore, im doing something to improve my running week by week to reach this goal. 2. Really adopt zone2 runnung. Ive always been a "trained fat guy". Strugling with wright my entire life, lifting, dieting etc, theres a fair bit of muscle. Having said that. I used to do 5:40min/km pace running my run walk period before. This time i decided i would commit to the zone 2 even in the run walk period. And did 6:40min/km paces. It was "a breeze" i stoll sweat, i still burn calories. But im not burned out after a week of training. Now im running 10K long runs at least 1 time a week, did 14K last sunday and moved my Half marathon from december to april! That to say: i agree with your experience as a fellow heavy runner. (114Kg/251lbs now, comming from 129Kg/284lb). Goal weight for half marathon is to run as a 105kg runner... full marathon wright goal is under 100kg. One small request/advice as a european viewer... could you try to add the kg/km values on screen in the edits? I know its hard during speelaking, but its though pausing videos to do the conversions on my phone to have a better video experience... Thanks! Ill follow your journey
Love your journey!!! Totally agree with you on having the mindset change and planning out the marathon ahead of time. I want to complete a marathon before I turn 40 in august so it’s been keeping me motivated to stick to my training plan. Also, zone 2 training has been helping me significantly. I already see my stamina getting better and better. Finally, thank you for the feedback on the conversions. I will definitely make sure I add in the km/kg conversions in future videos. Thank you so much
UA-cam Algo throws me the same videos .Where people Zone2 pace is my Zone 5 🙄.Refreshing to see someone in my shoes ! Thanks I will be following your Journey
Subscribed! Your content is refreshing to hear coming from another slow runner who is forever in zone 5 trying to do 7min km’s 😂 keep up the good work!
@@RunWithTapasthanks for the encouragement. I meant to add I’m also aiming to run the Dublin Marathon (my first) this year so I’ll be following along 🙌🏻
Thanks I'm 63, 235, and a 13 minute mile pace. Usually I jog 1/2 marathons but there is a small full marathon in my town in 16 weeks. I might give that a try.
Welcome aboard, brother! I've been running since I was a kid (now 55, sub 18 minute 5k at Christmas). For so many of us, it's not about the pace, it's about spreading the love for this great sport! I'm stoked to follow your journey. Never give up!
Thank you! Love of this sport and community has really kept me going with my journey. It is just so much fun and exciting to be able to this everyday of the week. Also, amazing job on the 5k! I am hoping I can get to that level someday. Much appreciated!
Great video! The easy run or zone 2 can be really difficult for beginners. When I started 3 years ago I was jog/walk slowly building to run continuously, but then I really only had 1 pace (and it was definitely not done 2😂) Simply jogging would send my HR through the roof! It's only over time of just consistently getting out 3 times a week that I was able to figure out how to control my pace and therefore have a bit more control of my HR, and what a feeling when was finally able to go for a 5km consistent run and keep my HR at or under 140! Now I have the opposite problem, have got too comfortable with the easy run and need a bit of a kick up the backside to try some intervals and speed stuff😂
I wish I can have that problem too! But over the last 4 weeks I’ve been running at least 3 to 4 true zone 2 runs every week and I’m already seeing improvement! Before, I could only hold a pace of 14mins at zone 2 but now it’s up to 13:30 which is super exciting. Slow and steady!
Remember this mantra: You don't run to get in shape, you get in shape to run Running helps with weight management. The summary to losing bodily fat that will decrease weight is this: The amount of energy output (movements) must be greater than the energy input (food: carbohydrates and glucose) Patience is the power of a great running journey. Well said to run your own race, for the race is not to the swift, the race is against your former PB Running is about adapting. What would you like to adapt to?
That mantra perfectly encapsulates what I realized recently. Running doesn’t really help with weight loss at all. I’ve ended up eating more just to be able to fuel my body for the runs. Appreciate this very much.
@RunWithTapas The reason you eat to run is because you are unaware that you can use body fat as fuel and become fat adapted. I run up to 21.1km on fat only. Above that I will use carbs. Prior to Marathon, 4 weeks before Marathon day I'll be at 32km distance to Marathon distance training run peak and I will practice fueling using carbohydrates. I run Marathons on carbs only because it metabolizes and absorbs faster than fat into the muscle for fuel. I can run 4:00/km with fat or with carbs. Carbohydrates shoot your insulin levels up and blocks fat from metabolizing and that's why you are not losing weight when you run. You need to run and exercise on fat and eat less carbs. You will have to learn the power of patience. 15 September 2022 I was 104.3kg and today I am 76kgs which is a drop of 28.3kgs in 2 years and 4 months later. I run on road, track & treadmill, I gym for strength, power, and other forms of body conditioning exercises, I do boxing just as an exercise, I do indoor cycling/Spinning, HIIT, etc. I train my aerobic and anaerobic systems I've learned to integrate running into my lifestyle. I'm not on special diets. I do limit junk foods, sodas and sweet treats because it shoots my insulin levels up and then I just want to eat carbs and sugar based things. I have to control my insulin and my dopamine levels. You must bring your body under subjection because it adapts to how you treat it, feed it and use it. Eating less and not moving much will not make you lose weight, your body will just adapt and store fat because it's created to adapt and keep you alive; Therefore, eat less carbs and sugar and move more, for that is the key to weight loss.
Glad i found your video in a sea of unrealistic videos i cannot relate to I have your build, im just shorter and a bit less heavy Im going from couch to aspiring to run the sf marathon in july. In the past 2 weeks ive gone from 0 to running 5k nonstop. Is this goal too aggressive? I just want to finish the marathon in under 6 hours
I'm new to running too, but from what I've hear running a marathon in 6 months starting from nothing may be very hard to accomplish. I think most of the problem may come from possibly injuring yourself because if you need to push yourself a lot to make it possible to run 42km in 6 months, injuries are quite possible to appear. If I were you I would just be very mindful about my body and when something starts to seem too much of a toil on my legs or smth, I would take a step back and restart slower.
Going from 5k to Marathon in 7 months might be ambitious but it can be doable. Main thing is that you want to stay injury free and just focus on trying to finish instead of pushing for a certain time. I started my marathon journey in August 2024 and just now finished the 10k plan. My first marathon is also scheduled in July so my training plan is for 25 weeks. Injury free and listening to my body is the best thing I'm doing and not worry about pace and time. You got this! Let me know how your progress is going as you prepare.
