It is known for its rugged beauty, scenic beaches, and diverse landscapes. The Oregon Coast is about 363 miles long, and it starts from the Columbia River in the north and goes all the way to the California border in the south.
Some of the most popular towns along the Oregon coast include:
Astoria: Known for being a port city located in the northwest corner of Oregon, United States, at the mouth of the Columbia River.
Cannon Beach: Known for its iconic Haystack Rock, a 235-foot-tall sea stack that is a popular spot for photography and bird-watching.
Lincoln City: Known for its miles of sandy beaches, outlet shopping, and kite-flying festivals.
Newport: Known for its historic bayfront, where you can find the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.
Florence: Known for its sand dunes, the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and the Sea Lion Caves
Depoe Bay: Known for its whale-watching and its fishing opportunities
Pacific City: Known for its beach, fishing, and the Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area.
Yachats: Known for its dramatic coastal scenery, tide pools, and hiking trails.
Brookings: Known as the banana belt of the Oregon Coast.
All of these towns have unique features and offer a variety of activities for visitors, such as hiking, fishing, shopping, dining, and more.

I can attest that the air quality here on the coast is excellent. Great video, loved the switch from red to green lights in the background, nice touch!

I love the Oregon coast, the small towns have some great restaurants.

This (10:42) is like you said Seth, "a stigma". I've been here for 3 1/2 years and haven't experienced anything but acceptance!

That's great to hear. Thanks for weighing in. That's what I hear as well.

    Great summary; thanks, Seth!
I'd add to the pro of wildlife, birding. Lots of wonderful birds to see; water birds and forest birds.

Great point. I'm surprised I forget to mention that. I don't know much about birds but do enjoy all the different species that we have on the coast. I was just admiring a large blue heron fishing in the Necanicum river in Seaside a few days ago. I see bald eagles often. The pelicans are always fun to watch. I've see a few pheasant as well which I believe is fairly uncommon. I'm used to seeing them more commonly in eastern Oregon. Thanks for pointing that out.

Another pro I would add is Oregon allows indoor wood burning for heat most of the time in most locations. California has many areas that don’t allow wood burning due to the air quality.

Great point. You will find lots of wood burning fireplaces or stoves along the coast. Wood burning fireplaces are less common in the valley. Many people replace them with inserts to minimize maintenance.

Great video, Seth! I appreciate how well organized, helpful, and balanced your pros and cons were. Wondering if you’re seeing more or less sun and fog in the warmer months on the coast in recent years?

Coming from Colorado, Oregon coast snow and ice wouldn't be an issue!!!

    • @LivingOnTheOregonCoast
      @LivingOnTheOregonCoast  5 місяців тому

Won't be an issues for you perhaps but, Oregonians especially on the coast are not used to driving in such conditions which equals more accidents. 😟 We've had a lot more power outages as well due to so many down trees. We're only talking a couple of days to a week out of the year but still something to take into account. I know a lot more people in Oregon who have bought generators over the past few years.

18:27, traffic? what traffic Seth? this area is like a ghost town compared to the S.F. Bay Area!

Just for the record from somebody that lives on the Oregon coast wanted to let you guys know that technically Astoria is not on the Oregon coast. It is on the mouth of the Columbia river so that can be misleading to some people just saying just like Tillamook likes to promote come to Tillamook to see it’s beautiful beach when there is no beach Tillamook it’s Tillamook county that has beaches not Tillamook. I had to correct them on that as well.

I'm looking to rent a house near the coast. Is there a decent amount of house rentals there? I'm looking at the area between Coos Bay and Astoria. Long term rentals, not vacation.

Dont visit in the summer. Horrible traffic. Also too foggy in the summertime to garden anything but lettuce.

Yes.,we learned the hard way. There is an extreme lack of competent handyman/contractors,and overpriced to say the least. I did not know this prior to moving here and am still in shock over the nightmare scenarios we have dealt with (there have been many) just trying to get simple things done. i cannot express how bad we've been robbed by extremely incompetent people. By far the NUMBER ONE downside of moving here.🤨

Sorry to hear that. Shoot me a text next time you're looking for someone and I'll see if I can find you a referral.
