There is no single cause for coronary heart disease. There are controllable and non-controllable risk factors that can increase your chance of developing it. Many people don't know they have coronary heart disease until they have angina or a heart attack.

Steve! I was just telling my mate Jerry Brown (from Adelaide) you two have too much in common now! He also had open heart surgery at the same age. They told him he'd be in for it but he's 65 and going strong, watching his son grow up and go to uni. So keep up the good habits and regular check ups. Long life and good health to you! ❤

My dad had bypass surgery in his 50’s. He is now 95. Best of luck and support to you.
What’s his secret? I’m sure he must have made major lifestyle changes after his bypass to live that long!

@@StevetheBartender_ my father had a very similar story back in 2017 and ended up needing his Aortic valve completely replaced, scary stuff and we don’t think about it enough as a society
Thank you for this. My father had a 5-way bypass at 43, and later passed away after heart surgery at 58. I’m incredibly conscious of the danger and had every test possible every few years ro see where I am. Raising awareness about not just shrugging of symptoms is vital. Thank you again.

Strong message Steve. My father in-law went through a double bypass in his early 50's. It took him months if not years to fully recover. You doing this after 11 weeks is impressive.

Hi Steve, I wish for a fast recovery, physically and emotionally for you.
About 3 years ago I spent 3 months in the hospital for a different heart disease (infective endocarditis). During that time I had a few liters of antibiotics pumped in me, had a couple of strokes, a balloon angioplasty, and a heart operation. During my time in hospital I needed something to look forward to, to keep me motivated, to wait for the day to be out of the hospital again. And I didn't want it to be something cheesy like "I want to see Egypt pyramids" but rather I wanted it to be something that would bring my friends and loved ones together. So I said to myself "I'm gonna learn how to make cocktails". Your channel was the first video I watched on this journey, and even though I now have a lot of amazing content creators in my subscription list, whenever I forget a recipe or need to refresh my memory your content is my first destination. Your warmth, sincerity, and you being an AMAZING instructor has given me a lot ease of mind when I was still an amateur and had doubts. Thanks to you I now have this hobby/new skill that genuinely changed my life, made me tons of new friends, and most importantly made my post-op recovery months so SO much more fun :)

Wish for a speedy recovery. I'm 77 have had 3 open heart surgeries and numerous cardiac caths with multiple stents. My first in my early 40's. By the way all of my surgeons have told me that a good cocktail never hurt anyone.
I'm one month post-bypass surgery myself. I'm 58, so older than you, but still young for open heart surgery. I have the the genetics from both sides of the family, so I've worked all of my adult life to avoid this, but I failed to outrun my genetic destiny. My father had his first bypass at age 47 and died of heart disease at 53, so I can relate. The good news is that surgical outcomes have improved dramatically over the past few years. As you know, the first couple of weeks are rough, but at 30+ days, I'm feeling good. It's great to be free of the angina and shortness of breath. I'm glad the problem was found before I had a heart attack. You and I can look forward to long and healthy lives without disabilities, so we should make the most of it. Cheers!
