- We bought a clapped out Honda Odyssey FL350! The original Honda Odyssey, also known as the Honda FL350 was a one year only offering from Honda in 1985, and is considered to be the first side by side. It's powered by a 350cc 2 stroke engine, with a CVT and gearbox (with reverse!). We bought this FL350 Odyssey at the 2024 Pate swap meet, we get it running, and rip it around the CarsandCameras Grand Prix!

My dad had one of those when I was younger. I wish he’d kept it. Those things are massively underappreciated
No they aren't, clapped out ones cost 5 grand
Massively underappreciated? My guy you’re not finding one of these under 4k unless it has no motor, even the clapped ones are expensive
We bought 5 of them in 85.
What a blast till you broke a axle and shock.
They sent a crew of guys from Japan to watch and film us running them for a weekend.
Hello from Siesta Key Florida
I think we paid $4,000 each brand new.
I 1000% believe that honda could re-release new odysseys and make a fortune......they are so awesome!
When I was a kid we had one with a Honda 650 engine in it from a bike my dad wrecked. They were the original sport offroaders
I’d be in line !!
I need one
sorry, closest we got is the polaris sportsman ace
Man, you're right about that. Selectable 2wd / 4wd, sealed clutches, or padel shift like the Talons, modern breaks, suspension, ect.....it would be awesome.
Petition #2 to bring back the 670 racing mower
Real
Needs to be slammed and built to race spec.
Agreed, but defo would love to see them turn the fl250 into a cross kart
It need reengineered something these boys can't do .
Yes I would love to see that
I bought a 1990 Honda FL400R Pilot (it's big brother, 400cc 2 stroke liquid cooled) and we imported 2 more (into 🇨🇦) many years ago now. Built the 400 as far as possible, had the cases modified and put a CR500 top end on it, in the end I swapped in an Arctic Cat ZR600EFI, with electric start and liquid cooling. Those machines were such a blast, wish I never sold them now.
You always think you won't need the wrist straps until it's too late. It's hard to beat natural instinct to keep your arms inside when you get into a rollover situation. They are very stable, but if driven hard, they can be tipped over. Wheelies in a machine like this (sitting with legs straight out) is one wild ride.
Swapped to disc brakes up front, that made for stronger and more consistent braking. Longer travel suspension, better shocks.....so much you can do to improve on machines ahead of their time. The FL400R Pilots had a slipper clutch built into the F-N-R transmission that helped save axles from exploding of you went WOT in the air over a jump and landed WOT, the 350's were known for blowing out their axles and overheating as they were only air cooled. The '85 Odyssey and earlier FL250's were sold in 🇨🇦, but not the 1989, 1990 FL400R Pilots, there's still a number that got imported into Canada though.
My dad has a 350 blew it up and put a 600 rotax and it rips
Always use the wrist straps. You won’t even notice them while driving.
If you roll it, your first instinct will be to stick your arm out and that’s bad news. The straps keep you from reaching out and getting your arm destroyed.
I’m actually extremely lucky I didn’t get hurt that way on my cousins go kart they used to have. I definitely should’ve broken my arm that day.
My friend was paralyzed from the waste down and loved his Odyssey. Great memories,Tommy’s gone but great memories live on. Thanks for the upload. 20 hour drive in the Bus 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
I can't believe Ike hasn't peeled the stickers off the back tomake it say COOL BUS!
Maybe he will that you made that excellent suggestion
Yup u nailed it
Something about the Mid 70’s to 80’s Honda anythings!!!! They boil such beautiful toys!!
Very true. The CT70 and Odyssey karts are my favorite motorsports designs ever.
@@radoncave69 boil? 🤔
the Heavy Weights Go Kart. Brings back the nostalgia in waves
Towing the buggy with the micro karts was like pulling a sleigh😂😂😂
Which must also happen.
I grew up on a 1980 YZ-50 and the motorcycle shop always had an Odyssey in the showroom. Seeing that Honda steering wheel with the paddle controls was a blast from the past! Took me right back to being 8yrs old sitting in it pulling that paddle and thinking "what if I just drove this sucker right out that showroom door and kept on going?!?" 😂 Great stuff! Keep that Odyssey content coming!
Growing up, one of my friends had two of these they got off a yard sale. I think they were actually 250's, but we had so much fun ripping them around the pastures and back woods behind our neighborhood. We each rolled them multiple times, but it was NBD because of the harness and the roll cage. But man, were they a PITA to pull start! (We did not have the electric start.) These were just such cool, iconic 80's machines. Designed to make you have fun, no matter what, and with that legendary Honda engineering. So, so much fun and so many good memories. Thanks for posting this, looking forward to seeing what you guys can do to restore it!
Still to this day one of the most FUN machines I have ever driven. The thing is tough, my buddy who owned it would jump it and turn the wheel hard on landing and roll it on purpose and if it didn’t land on its wheels we would just push it back over and wait for the fluids to settle, fire it back up and continue ripping the crap out of it! SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!! O and when y’all get a 350X 3 wheeler your minds will be blown again. Thanks for years of entertainment and bringing back all my childhood memories. 😊
We had an FL400 and it was a beast! Pipe and silencer, made it rip! Miss that thing should have never sold it
In all my stash of stuff I carried with me were two pair of DT250 rear shocks. I had them hanging in my tiny metal shed that was my workshop when I was in the Air Force in South Dakota. My next door neighbor had an oddesy and was doing some improving on it. His main complaint was the suspension was too soft. He used those Yamaha shocks and said they made a world of difference.
Cool blast from the past.
Cheers
Terry
They are loads of fun and lots of aftermarket parts still available once you look for them. Get the suspension dialed then engine and CVT work.
Starts easier than a CR 500 too.
I was worried we were going in the Boosted Bois style Honda Odyssey direction when I saw the notification. Nice find, should be a riot
But an electric Plaidessy or k swapping one to make a Rowdyssey would be an awesome idea though.
@H3110NU these boys have neither the funds nor the space on the vehicle to do either of those things sadly. Plus I prefer seeing a tiny engine make 30hp over seeing a k20 make 1000hp any day, and I own a k20
There's no 1985 Oddysey from what I know. The first of the minivans we're made in 95 I think. But funny to think that nonetheless.
I remember these things from my childhood! The Odyssey, and the later Pilot, were wild rides! When Honda used the names for a minivan and an SUV, I instantly knew the history of the names. It just tickled me hearing you call it a "1 seat side-by-side". It's kinda like "jumbo shrimp" or "military intelligence"...
I wish Honda didnt stop building these. Even if it was built with a 4 stroke engine, would still be a riot.
I had a 2nd gen Odyssey - the FL250 - Red with front only suspension, no rear brakes, no reverse, pull start. brutal to operate but so much damn fun
When these came out it was revolutionary. I desperately wanted one.
You can really send those and they wont tip over. Ive owned them for 20 years now and have ridden them as hard as I possibly could. Only time i rolled one was when a tire blew around a sharp turn
U ain't riding it right if u ain't flipping it
@@ClappedBayou300 That might be the dumbest comment of the year. Its called knowing how to drive. We would literally set up a course and do 3 lap time trials and send it as hard as possible because we all wanted to win. Mine has nerf bars, i don't recommend doing this because its not exactly safe, but you steer with one arm and grab the nerf bar of whatever side is on the inside of the turn, and use your body weight to help keep it down. If you flip one of these you either had some sort of chassis/tire failure or you arent a good driver
@@BSConservativeGOAT we had an fl250 that had a 495 phazer motor In it
It was stupid fast and was very tipsy
I could actually ride that thing in 2 wheels like a 3 wheeler
@@BSConservativeGOATA friend of mine had two of these and he flipped his on a berm right in front of me. Ridden hard its fairly easy to flip at full speed.
I had one when I was about 12. I had no business driving that thing, LOL. I could only drive it when the battery was charged for the electric start because it had so much compression I couldn't pull the pull start. I'll never forget the black marks it would leave on the street. What a riot it was.
I'm so old. I remember the Honda Tri-Sport three-wheeler then the Honda Odyssey, glorified go-kart/dune buggy then they came out with the Honda pilot which is what we thought was a full-on sand racer. Now pilot is the car so you can take it from there
My dad and I bought 2 FL350s about 20years ago and use to ride the heck out of them. Wish we never sold them. Tha ks for bringing back some fond memories
I still have a few of these with rotax 670s and long travel we built in like 2010 to race. There was a pilot/oddysey class at a short course offroad track in western Pennsylvania at the time.
I wanted one of those when they came out. Couldn't afford it back then. Sweet to see one running and peeps having fun with it.
a PERFECT candidate for that cr500 engine yal have!!
Indeed it is.
Absolutely!!!
Nah put a liquid cooled snowmobile engine in it already cvt twice as much power
@@davidlavalle7583that's over done
Cr500 motor would be sick, but impractical to drive most likely. A tripple cylinder 2 stroke snowmobile motor is the go to move. They make even more power then the cr500 would. But it would be super cool with the 6 speed 500 in there.
Great find!!! I have no doubt you made a lot of people green with envy. When I was a kid, I had one that was the solid rear end. Even that was a ton of fun. I always wanted the full suspension unit. They are super cool, i can't wait to see what you do to it.
Love the Honda. Reminds me of the Disney movie heavyweights, IYKYK. I thought the mini airplane was a bit too silly at first then I remembered that people waste life playing video games for hours on end. Always nice to see people out there working and building things with their hands.
A gamer would say the same about you spending endless hours on junk that goes twelve mph. Get a grip bud...
@@joshuabadzinski9793 I’ll get a grip on my tools and handlebars and you can with your game controller 🤙
@@Rob9947 well aren't you looking pretty stupid again..... I'm a 25 year veteran tech with over 50,000$ in tools.🤣😂🤣 Oh and boats, quads, bikes, go karts and a tractor!
Guys when you dragged the Honda with those little things, thin lizzy rang loud in my head. “THE BOYS R BACK IN TOWN”. Love it. I don’t know why we couldn’t drive these on short daily commute’s. I would drive it back and forth to work without hesitation
I’ve been in several severe car accidents and none hold a candle to the time I barrel rolled my neighbors Honda Odyssey, it rang my bell!! Come to think of it maybe that’s why I’m such a mess now 🤔
Love y’all, idk how y’all do it but I’ve learned so much while also being entertained. Which is not an easy thing to do but y’all nail it!!!
Cool find .. WHERE IS CHARLES ?? He made the videos cool. FREE CHARLES !!!
I was thinking the same
I think he moved bc on there podcast they talk about him moving
I All so have been wondering where he has gone to can someone confirm that he has moved?
yup he moved to be closer to family
The Honda Odyssey was my dream back in 1985.
I literally used to dream of having one.
Best i ever got was a Manco Dingo, and had all kinds of fun with that!
Oh, and we’re not talking about the minivan! Man, I love these when I was a kid! Jealousy
Odyssey Life UA-cam Channel is giving away a Honda Odyssey Fl250 FOR FREE!
Dude😂 we had 2 Honda pilots. They were epic. Legit the funnest things ever. Forgot all the new stuff. Those were a riot
The coolest offroad 4-wheeler Honsa ever built. They never should've stopped making them.
The Pilot 400 was the best as that's what the Odyssey evolved into. The suspension was tuned better and the extra power didn't hurt.
Honda talon 1000r enters the chat
@mattrivers973 - pretty sure you're the only one who cares.
@@driverjamescopeland all I care about is that you were wrong in your statement. So I corrected. Have a nice day.
Hell Yeah good to see them still going. And we actually have 2 of them. They all still running excellent. I had a company that build's stuff like those. And they built me one a bigger one since I am 6'5" and it still has the hand controls cause I like them better.
I’d paint that little airplane like a ww2 fighter jet. Stars on the wings. Sharks mouth on the nose.
The sound of that 350cc 2 stroke singing… brings back so many good memories. Had one when I was a teenager. Could pick the front wheels off the ground with a good launch. SOOOOOO much fun!
I’m gonna be honest here. I’d rather just watch Ike’s channel because it much much better. Been a sub for years but this channel is becoming boring. Isaac should just branch out and do his channel full time. Since Charles left things have got boring. Come on guys.
It has been a while since I have had to time to watch .why did Charles leave ?
I had one that had been converted to a midget sprint car, with a double-wishbone front suspension, a fiberglass body and the displacement had been bumped up from 350 to 500. They're a lot of fun.
This thing is so cool. Cant wait to see some videos on it. Love your guys channel👍
You can see over 300 videos on the Odyssey Life UA-cam Channel! We are dedicated to the Honda Odyssey ATV!
I really can’t wait to see what you guys are going to do with it. This is awesome. I love Odyssey and I really want to finish mine.
In 1984 a friend bought a tired and battered 1980 250cc Odyssey. The cone on the centrifugal clutch was dented so the transmission was stuck in a higher gear ratio than was desirable. It was a red one with a single headlight mounted at the top of the roll cage. We'd take it out along forestry tracks in the bushland about an hour east of his home and have an absolute blast despite the clutch issues. It had no front brakes and was reluctant to start (pull-start model). You're going to have a heap of fun on that wee beastie.
Now... put that CR500 engine on it!
I had. A buddy in high school who's dad built one with a YZ490 engine, and it was INSANE!💯
My dad had one of these as well when I was a kid. These things are fun! I've been looking for one for years
Finally John made a good two stroke call and didn’t run it right away without premix.
I partially take that back… 32:1 when it calls for 20:1 🤦 come on guys it’s not that hard.
I've wanted an Odyssey for 30 years!! Man they are the COOLEST ATVs ever. Someday I'll find one in a garage for cheap... someday...
What a great episode y'all, growing up that Honda was the one that got away for me lol, always wanted one. Now that y'all have it, it's even better than having it myself! Great stuff guys stay safe on those things.
About time you guys picked up something SPECIAL. Please do mods and upgrades, bearings, brakes, tires, engine mods or rebuild. Yes to more vintage rebuilds and fixer uppers. Thanks for the entertainment.
One hell of an Odyessy in so many ways the first start smiles to the school bus slip in & out, epic episode C&C crew 😎😜👍
I have a Honda Odyssey two not together, trying to restore it. That is so awesome. You guys found one.
That Odyssey is so cool! It looks like a blast to ride! Can’t wait to see how it does once you upgrade and restore it. 👍
A well deserved addition to y'alls portfolio! Can't wait to see what comes next
‘85 Honda’s best year. Love it. Go for that ‘85 250r and 350x.. can’t wait!
Love the Odyssey. Incredible machine. Classic Honda being legendary.
Benn watching for years, the Honda is the nicest thing you all have ever bought. I think you should re do it so it looks new!
My uncle had this exact one same color same year. I loved that machine growing up that same uncle gifted me a 50cc Honda for my 5th birthday ❤
I love this channel. It's so normal and fun like if i were doing it. good fun builds. The best.
We used to have one when I was a kid and I miss it so much, these are the coolest
i just picked up a 83 FL250 odyssey ... im in the process of fixing it up .. we need to meet up to ride them together .. im only in Myrtle beach.
Back in the day, I went to high school with a guy who had one of these. He claims that one day he was hauling ass on a gravel logging road, lost control going around a bend, tumbled down an embankment, and blacked out. When he came to, he said it had landed on its wheels, it was dark outside, and the engine was still idling. He turned on the light and carefully made his way back home. At the time, we believed him, but now it sounds like total BS.
Anyway, nice find! Have fun with it! Don’t go tumbling down any embankments!
I love old Hondas as much as you guys! Bring it on!
I rode one as a kid at a friend's house. Odyssey are so fun to drive and you dont even have to worry about flipping as long as you have a seat belt on lol.
Hi you guys,
I got flashbacks of all the fun I had with my old FL-350 Odyssey I owned from back in the late 80's to mid 90's. I bought it used in 89 and had it until around 1995. I noticed yours had the same front negative camber problem mine did and I fixed mine by replacing the inner and outer bushings in the upper and lower control arms on the front suspension. You'll notice there's slop in the bushings if you jack up the front, grab the wheel top and bottom and can rock it in and out. Then it's time to replace the bushings. Not sure if you can still buy them from Honda nowadays or not but they were available back then. There was also a minimum wear diameter spec on the pivot bars, the bushings slide onto too, I don't recall what the specs were.
Also, the rear brake was way more effective than the front brake since it is a disc. The front brakes were crummy, tiny drum brakes and never worked for me nearly as well as the rear disc brake did. If your back brake is not functional, it is worth repairing, I promise you won't regret it! Plus I ran giant Dick Cepek Spider Tracks on the back of mine on custom aluminum wheels, with Kenda Dune Runners on the front also on aluminum wheels, I want to say they were 10 inch diameter wheels all the way around. But it's been more than 30 years ago since I put it together this way.
I used to ride mine out here in Utah at Sand Mountain and in the sand dunes also there down in Delta Utah, I still have a permagrin from it. I was always the only FL-350(I never saw another one, they are very scarce!), my buddies all had FL-250's and some of the guys had the later FL-400 Pilot's when we were riding back in the 90's. There is nothing nearly as good as flying in one of these off of a dune in Delta Utah!
A good rule of thumb with any decent modern two stroke oil is 40:1. This is enough to protect, but it won't cause issues with fouling or excessive oil. I have done this for 50years on all my ring dingers from open class MX bikes (Maico 490) to weedeaters and never had an oiling problem. And just as a heads up, some simple mild porting will REALLY wake the engine up, since Honda designed them to be bulletproof rather than fast, and the port map is super conservative. I had the earlier FL250 and when I ported mine, it made a HUGE difference! The larger 350 will respond even better! Turns it into a drift machine!
I haven't ridden an odyssey since 1986, what a blast from the past. Pretty cool. Also I really love the jet!
Use the wrist straps! They keep your arms inside the roll cage when you flip, keep them from getting mangled. Sure modern SxS are higher tech, but this seems like more raw fun. Some family friends had the precursor to this, the Odyssey 250. It had only front suspension, solid rear axle, only rear brakes, pull-rope start, no reverse. This is so much better! Do not remove the engine air scoops. The kids we knew thought it "looked better" and removed the scoops and the motor overheated and seized the next time they used it.
Love it my uncle had one when I was a kid and we’d take it in the woods awesome machine!
such an iconic machine!! I used to ride a 250 back when it was new, but never got the chance to ride the 350! so cool!!
So cool guys, best thing you guys have ever "bought". Kinda jelly on this one. Looking forward to more content on the Odyssey. Also, definetly would be into more old school icons
When I was a teenager, my cousin had one of the 1st models. He used to drive up fast sideways on the sand dunes and PURPOSELY roll it down the dunes 5-7 times. Then drive it around and do it again. 😊😅😂
SERIOUSLY, NO JOKE. 👌
Buddy had one back in the day. They were a blast and I had to really push my quadrunner to keep up.
You can safely run Amsoil Saber in that engine, at 80:1 all day long, at any load. It'll also run mostly smoke-free, if correctly tuned.
These machines are absolutely awesome,I’m so glad y’all got one!
Man! You you said it, John! Bucket list toy for sure❣ Nice find gents!
Love these things! Can't wait to see the mods you guy's do!!!!
You can't go wrong with anything Honda!! Great products!! She deserves a restoration!
Love the odyssey! I've owned both the 250 and an FL350. Also currently own 2 Honda Pilot FL400''s.
Awesome find , I have wanted one for years
Look forward to the rebuild
You guys need to find its predecessor the fl250
That is going to be yalls best cart on that track😮
I love these things so much, ever since I heard you guys baught this at mini mayhem I’ve been so excited for a video about it !!!!
👍👍 always wanted one. Glad y'all are restoring it.
You mentioned that it reminded you of the Polaris Ace. I have an Ace 570 SP and I love it! Great video guys.
I had one of these as a kid. Too much fun. Do NOT drive it without the roll cage. I rolled mine more than a couple times.
So much nicer than the hovercraft, just needed to be said!
LOL!!! 😝☺Thanks for the video.
These things could be re-released today and compete well. I've always loved those. Awesome 👌
I love how you got sparks being thrown 10 feet away from a fuel mixing session. Cars and cameras are awesome 😂
Love odysseys!!! Great episode guys, the lil plane was great too! I think I would have just found a cheap trailer on marketplace and pulled that home lol, but you guys make it happen anyway
WOW, WOW, WOW. Another awesome video 👍. What a great find. Everything about this video was so Cool. This Old Man from Washington always enjoying you two. 🛵🧔💝💝
My dad traded a mustang Il for one of these. We used it for almost everything around our farm. It was a tough and a blast on the dirt roads and trails we had. We beat the piss out of it.
I loved those rigs!!!!! Ohhhh the memories!
when i was about 13 my dad purchased a murray gokart that looked alot like this, it only made 6hp and didnt have reverse but it is definitely what got me into cars. this things so much cooler though
I really like the old vehicles that you guys find and get running
I guess you have had a bazillion comments saying, weld up the door, cut off the whole back of the buss and make one big door! I agree with them! ........................ P S ........... what a heck of a place for the CR500 motor, WITH an electric starter !!!
My all time favorite!! My dad has one rotting in my childhood home backyard for years 😭
that is amazing, i have been looking at them in my area and was going to buy one in the next month or two, cant wait to see you guys put a turbo on it!
Oh I just want to drive it.I dreamed of having one of these since I was a Kid. I was born in the 80s so I grew up idolizing owning one of these nowadays. I'd be happy to drive one.
