Warriors had Violins, with both JNone and Layne. Which has many of the same post apocalyptic vibes as Dream On. Earl was still in the group back then, as well.
Truthfully, they kept the overall feel of the melody of the original, which really helps with this cover - even keeping it in the original key of Em. The bassline of the original for the main body of the song is just a descending line in Em; starting at E2 and ending on E1, then repeating... Geoff spiced it up a bit and it worked very well.

This is voice plays love letter to the original. It was a song that I think got a lot of my age range into heavy Metal. Well worth a listen to the original. Voice play have killed this song, it's epic and amazing. Definitely one of my favorites

I’m old and pretty much missed this whole era. When I heard, I listened to the original, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, although I do find the style generally just too loud for my taste. I was anxious to see what they did with it and I think that they probably captured the spirit of the song in their own style. It may not be theatrical, but certainly has drama! Such a gorgeous tribute to a great song. My favorite part is when it swells and they rock it out and then Layne uses the Force to summon his violin. I also love that we got to hear him in three modes: singing, percussion and violin. I don’t think it will edge out Hoist the Colours for my favorite, but it is pretty darn close.
If you want to hear Layne (and J None too) on violins, react to Warriors. Layne plays throughout on the violin (and beatboxes too), J None does some plucking on his but goes back to singing.

You need to watch the behind the scenes on this one. Its amazing the journey they had to take to get this here on UA-cam. Also. They made 3 minis with J None while he was in town. Have you seen the Evolution of Justin Bieber medley? It’s by this new a cappella group called Radius. You should react to it! I think you’d love it! It’s just like these singers but younger! They seem to be underrated/not heard of too much

FYI: Together you have a confirmed vocal range of C2-G5 (and I'm sure that your wife could easily go higher). Also, I'm not sure if your chest range can go even lower than C2 but I'm certain that you could get that E1 sub with enough training and patience 😉
