    Looking at getting an axe but totally unsure what to get .. need it for camping chopping fire wood and getting larger bit of wood also .. really wanted a work axe but not sure now after watching your reviews . But between the work, camp and Trapper ! Any preference yourself ?

      Are you definitely set on a Tuatahi? If not there are much cheaper but very good utility axes like a council tool boys axe or American felling axe or a Hultafors large forest axe. If you definitely want a tuatahi then for what you describe, the camp axe on a longer handle might be best. The work axe is very large so you will need to be very proficient to get the most out of it as well as fit! My favourite for utility is the Trapper as it is the most portable of the three but may be a bit small for what you want.

    This is an expensive axe but it could save me from buying multiple axes and hatchets and other tools. Maybe that line of reasoning will convince me to pull the trigger on one next time I have $400 lying around. Thanks for making this review.

    That looks awesome Trev. Also looks expensive.i need a new winter sleeping bag, I think that takes priority (they aren't cheap either), Mind you at the moment it's not cold at all - 4 it's crazy.
    Thanks for the video mate.
    Hope you are keeping well.

      Hi Tim, a new sleeping bag sounds like a sensible option for sure!😂
      All good here, are you in the middle of the really busy season now? Had a lot of snow yet?

    Had a feeling we'd see you with one of these! Good stuff! Cool that you went with the longer handle. Do you think that velcro would hold up over time? Id be tempted to add a snap or sam brown i think

      It’s probably because they are set up for it with the racing axes? I agree, for a pack axe, it seems like a strange choice. Sam Browne would be a nice upgrade.
      Are you getting out much at the moment?

      @@bundufundi had a bit of time off and a bit of a trip over Xmas, back to work now though. Not too much chopping time but trying to get on top of some editing I've had banked up. Should have bought myself one of these trappers for Xmas, be a good excuse for a sneaky camping trip haha

    Thanks for showing us Trev. Something about this one is weird to me.
    Asking as someone who doesn't have a lot of axe experience, so probably a rubbish concern. Looking at that beard cut out and the way it cuts into the handle, do you think it would cause issues if you had a tendency to strike with the heel? That's my biggest mishit if it doesn't strike square. Probably more than strong enough... but it's something I always think about when I look at a bearded axe, and this one more so for some reason.

    • @bundufundi
      @bundufundi  9 місяців тому +1

      Hey Ricardo, great to hear from you! To be honest, there is a lot of metal just after the eye so it should be more than strong enough from the perspective of the head. Regarding the handle, it looks more exaggerated due to the depth of the beard but should not really result in any more risk of the handle breaking with this design. I think a lot of it is the visual element, I was initially surprised by the depth of the beard but it is quite similar to viking axes in that sense. Knowing the quality of Tuatahi products I think it is unlikely to be a problem but I guess time will tell. Thanks for watching!

      @bundufundi  6 місяців тому +1

      Totally agree, the camp axe was a strange one. I liked it but it is really heavy on such a short handle so the trapper really feels like a good combo of size weight and Tuatahi quality.

    • @joeguinand4622

      @@bundufundiyeah totally the short handle on the camp axe is a bit weird. But they now sell the camp axe with short and a long handle version which is good to see. I have both camp axe with long and short and it’s still a pretty heavy axe, I love using it but I find I use the trapper now a lot more for light axe work. And the trapper is really a do it all small axe. Love
      Thanks for making a short video with it. Not much out there on the net about it

    Damn, that trappers head is so gd crooked. It'd drive me insane and I'd reprofile the entire head just to make it even. All great axes, all great companies, but personally I think we're trying too hard to make little axes, do big axe things. It looked really awkward watching you do the fine work with such a large cutting edge. I get it, but ya know it's okay to have the right tool for the job rather than trying to work around the wrong tool.

    • @rebdomine1
      @rebdomine1 5 місяців тому

      Is it a little axe trying to do big things, or is it too big for fine work like carving? Make up your mind. He said "its not going to be a dedicated carving axe", but gave it a go anyway and was able to carve a spoon blank with it. What more do you want?
