    This is the best video about Home Assistant on the internet, and showcases just how awesome the HA platform is at giving you the tools to build a smart home. There may not be an easy way to get there. But unlike other platforms HA isn't the limiter. Its the enabler. Also, I need to get better at making UA-cam Videos about Home Assistant. Well done!

    • @technithusiast
      @technithusiast  Місяць тому

      Totally agree! Home Assistant is a double-edge sword: When a system is such a powerful enabler, things can get out of hand really quick and people like myself tend to create overly complex solutions. But I still wouldn't trade that power in. It challenges me to be disciplined in the solutions I create and try to find the happy middle between power, ease of use, and maintainability.

    Using the git plugin, it is possible to sync your data between multiple devices. And because it is just git, your HA server could also get a copy and pull your latest notes, and read them. And you even got a nice history and restore function with it.

Now that we can more readily localize everything, it makes me more motivated to learn enough tech to divest of alphabetco, etc; and solve also my issues with API drops and keeping 'bigtech' calendar / list tems up to date on local dashboards, etc. It is hard to be the DIY jackleg on every skilled area, tho.

    Got to be honest I'm still not seeing it being of use to me. I write very little for my job and as a family we certainly aren't hyper organised to have regular meetings or anything, plus not a one of us gets on with talking to voice assistants - it can be as 'natural language' as you want, but when you need something to happen and your brain goes entirely blank and can't think of anything to say, it's still a lot more useful for automations to be event triggered (either sensor or manual). I simply don't get where text can help me. That's not to say it's not impressive tech - I just can't see a way to make it work for me.

    I've been using HA for less than a year and I am sick of writing YAML. I already have chatgpt do it for me. You are absolutely, positively on the correct path. I should be able to take a note or talk to my assistant and say "Turn on the living room lamp at sunset everyday, unless it's not sunny then turn it on earlier.", "If one of the garage doors opens, send a text alert to the tv and my phone and tell me which door opened, also send an audio message to the smart speakers in the house", ..instead of, you know, YAML...and that second one needs a template so it MUST be YAML. ick.
    (Technically the 2nd one doesn't need a template you can write two separate garage door automations...but, that just makes the point.)

      Glad you like the concept! I have quite a few ideas around this concept. I don't think HA and AI is just quite there but i think its REALLY close! I'll be experimenting more of this in the community.
