  • Flashing "D" light on your 2004 Honda Pilot?
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
    You got four key options:
    1.) See a transmission specialist about possible pressure sensors issues within the transmission.
    2.) Scrap/sell the vehicle.
    3.) Get the transmission rebuilt.
    4.) Donate the car and get a tax break.
    Want to temporarily drive on a "D" light and get good transmission power?
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Use the loading gears like a manual starting from 1 and then switching to 2 and 3. It is a temporary fix and worked for a hundred or two miles before fluid began to leak.

    It was leaking out of the radiator/transmission cooler. It's not a hard fix. You can't buy anything as capable for less than $30K, so a $500 fix is nothing. You can also do a partial fluid change on that model, and its quite easy. Honda makes things really easy for people to work on if you care enough to do so. I'm the 2nd owner of an 07 Pilot and I've been through it all already. There was no need to scrap that vehicle.

      Man if only I knew earlier. I went to two different transmission specialists and they both told me the costs would exceed the worth of the vehicle. I'm not a mechanic and so the little research on this topic I could find online along with the specialists opinions made my decision.

    It’s salvable no need to change the transmission nor junk the vehicle.
    I FIX the same issues on my 2004 pilot with 289,000 miles and fix it like new by changing both the two 3rd and 4th pressure switches located under the plastic cover just behind the driver side wheel and also the shift selector near by that was damaged and didn’t show the other gears when shifting gears, it was like the other LED’s disappeared and most time the vehicle was stuck in Parking also had an errático Bucking when first accelerating or shifting from 1-2 gear or 3-4. sometimes the joker will act as if I put it in Neutral after coming to stop lights it was a circus.
    When working with this pilots you have to start from simplex to complex troubleshooting and try it all. Either-way it will be better than replacing the entire transmission unnecessarily.
    #1) if it’s a once in a while thing, do the 3 or 4 section transmission flushes using 3 or 4 gallons of highly millage automatic transmission fluid from Walmart ( see other UA-cam videos) aprox 140 this May fix the problem or buy you some time before step #2.
    #2) do the fluid and changes as mentioned before and change the 3rd and 4th pressure sensors located behind the driver wheel plastic cover( one is brown and the upper is black or vice verse) DO NOT BUY THE CHEAP GENERIC SENSOR from eBay or amazons, IT WONT CLEAR THE FAULT, I WASTED MY MONEY and almost JUNKED my Pilot. I learned this the hard way and almost junk the vehicle, I bunt into a 2003 pilot at the junk yard and removed couple parts including this two sensors finally replacing the cheaply mistake with old OEM parts just for jerk and giggles and it fix the problem, stopped the blinking D.
    #3) I did all the above and could see where my gears where landing after changing from one another except D and P and a briefly lighting as I moved the stick between them, so Inwent back to the junk yard and pull the transmission
    Shifter sensor, this was a 250 dollar mouse size part with a harness at authozone that I was able to get at the junk yard for 75 and shannam, boom it worked like new.
    So don’t just have up on your pilots for this, give it a try.

    Just wanted to say the flashing D light is just an indicator that the transmission has a code stored. Mine’s done that intermittently from a 3rd and 4th clutch pressure switch. Finally swapped them both out recently, and the light is gone. If it shows up, go get it diagnosed at a reputable mechanic and see if it’s anything serious. 220k miles on my pilot, no issues with it so far!

      Thanks for the update! I still don't know why it was leaking so much transmission fluid though so I donated the car instead cause of all the problems. It was also a Northern car so it had a horrible frame from rust.

      @@shivamrpatelofficial because you had a rusted transmission fluid line which caused the leak. Common with these cars. Your transmission seemed to be cooked though regardless

    This light came on my Honda 04 pilot, but it turned out to be some sensor or switch. It only cost a couple of hundred bucks to fix, so unless the transmission is acting weird, the light could be just a simple fix. Good luck if you're having this issue.

    I recently bought 04 with 247k and the previous owner took really good care of the vehicle with none rusting frame or body. The previous owner took a great care of her i think I'm just lucky but thanks for the info I will keep my eyes out 👍

      Whatever the previous owner did, sounds like they did it right. Keep up with the old owner and do your research before maintenence and that SUV should last you easily til 300k.

    Change your 3rd and 4th gear transmission pressure sensors. They're about $25 and take about five minutes to swap. Ideally you can jack it up pretty high in the air to get this done. Don't scrap your Honda unless the transmission completely goes. Obviously

    I had the same shit happen..but it was the line that go to the Radiator from the transmission cooling was leaking do to rust...replace the line and add fluid..I'm still going with 300,000 miles

      Man that's crazy! No doubt Honda's are reliable. Certain years have far worse problems in rusting and transmission problems according to the transmission specialist I talked to for Hondas in general. Thanks for your feedback. Hope it helps someone looking here.

    I'm not a car expert by any means and I'm not bashing Honda. This is just what I was told and learned from multiple transmission specialist shops in my area. It could be a complete different problem for you. Car was maintained properly.

    Mine doesn't flash like that, but when I switch into drive the D will or wont light up, or it cuts out and back in. Anyone have a clue on what needs to be replaced? cuz I can't find anything just googling it, everything refers to basically what this video is about.

    No way..... Replace Pressure Switches, that takes care of the flashing D light... Maintenance light can be cleared in 10sec. It's a light that works with mileage for, OIL CHANGE INTERVALS.😄...., Why your "check engine" light came on needs to be checked with a OBD2 scanner..... Not just guess what it is.😄

    Slightest pressure loss and the ecu thinks something is wrong, mine flashes D only when I go into over drive and it turns off as soon as I slow down, it doesn’t always turn on either

    • @shivamrpatelofficial
      @shivamrpatelofficial  2 роки тому

      Well if I were you, first thing you should do is make sure to see a transmission specialist as most shops have one and they know a lot. It could be just a pressure sensor as many Pilot owners have the problem(easy fix) or it could be worse with the torque converter valve which requires so much work it is practically a rebuild. Nothing is known for sure. All I will say is that if the problem is new and the shop says sell it, listen to them cause the problem disappearing for a few days will come back stronger like it did with me.

    • @shivamrpatelofficial
      @shivamrpatelofficial  2 роки тому

      @@codycrawford2385 I would ask the dealer if I were you. If the dealer does the transmission flush and doesn't find anything wrong and claims everything should be fine or they got some kind of coverage, then you can say it's their fault and they should cover repair. Also if it is dealer maintained, see if there is any record of the transmission fluid being flushed or changed. If you don't get any of this information, don't touch the trans and leave it alone. Just make sure the transmission fluid is level to what it is supposed to be.
