You are a real professional. I had 3 USB sticks with corrupted files and I was thinking of throwing them away. All 3 have come back to life! Thank you very much!
Thank you I had a corrupt USB drive for my security cameras and have not been able to get it working again, I followed multiple methods I found online and the same method you used but yours showed more steps and it worked, I will add this info to my geek tools and solutions USB drive as I also help people out with issues in person or remotely as I am a self confessed geek. I found your channel when i stumbled on Ask your computer guy channel and he mentioned your channel. looking forward to looking through you videos to expand my knowledge thank you.
LIFE SAVER!! My thanks to the Computer Guy for steering me over to Nico when 3 of my (expensive) flash drives became unusable after trying to put a utility program on them. I offloaded the content from each USB onto my HD before proceeding with the utility, so I was safe from that POV, but I was upset not to see them in the drive list when I got a fail msg during the (utility) installation process. Here's something to point out in your process: on the first USB that I tried your process, the drive still did not show up after running thru all the commands. I noticed that at the bottom of the details list where it shows 'Volume', 'Ltr', 'Label', 'Fs'... 'Status', this particular USB did not have an assigned "Ltr" listed, so I figured that the file mgr wouldn't see it without it. Turns out I was right. I ran the "assign" command and it automatically assigned a drive letter to it and it came up in the file mgr.... whew!! I also thought it interesting to take note of the "Status" of the USB. They all started out as 'not readeable' or something like that. By the end the Status changed to "Healthy", which I was happy to see. All is right with the universe now and I may try reloading that utility which I need to fix my WIN 10 no-boot issue now that I know how to repair the USB if I have the same problem. Thank you, Nico (and the Computer Guy)!
Great video! In my case this didn't solve the issue though, but I found out that I had to manually add drive letter afterwards so that can be a sollution if this method don't work. Disk managment -> find your drive -> right click and select 'change Drive Letter and Formats' -> in my case it didn't have a drive letter so I press 'add' and select the available letter, and then it became visible again.
Thank you! Was wondering why I couldn't send an application to my usb because it couldn't detect it but it worked like a charm! I'll be sure to come back here in case it happens again.
I had a usb drive that wasnt't seen at all in Windows, then found that it worked fine attached to a computer with Mint Linux. This is something else to try.
Go through Nico's process again. When you get to the "details" list, look at the bottom where is shows "Volume, Ltr, Label", etc. and look to see if you have a (drive) letter assigned under the "Ltr" header. I'm guessing that it is blank. If it is, in the cmd window type "assign" and it will automatically assign a drive letter, which is needed for the file manager to see the drive. Close the cmd window and reopen the file manager and you should be able to see it now.
when i hit clean, this prompt appear "DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. See the System Event Log for more information"
it works for me but my usb doesn't appear in my file explorer I need to go to computer management and then format it there but the process you said is effective thanks a lot sir.
Hi, I hope all is well. I followed the steps and succeded in 1 of 2 pen drives. The one that worked failed again. I went through the same process and is not able to format, I get this message: 0 percent completed Virtual Disk Service error: The media is write protected. I can not go anywhere from here. It does'nt have any pshysical lock. Thanks !
Thanks Nico! I was struggling to get my Windows PC to detect my USB drive for some reason. Inputting the same commands into my Windows terminal worked like a charm!
Any solutions for removing Write Protection from an HP 64 GB flash drive? It doesn't have any external switches for enabling write protection. And the data on it is still intact. I tried all the usual tricks/tools including Diskpart and registry to remove the protection but failed. Thanks!
Hey Nico I recently got this computer and when I try to use my usb it does not work and I use it on a laptop it works fine but when I try to do your tutorial and when I’m trying to find the disks nothing comes up at all not even my c: drive can you help?
Nico, thanks for all your past video's, could you possibly do a walkthrough on Tron Script and show a layman how to turn the switches off for certain programs as I'm guessing this would be massively helpful to myself and other viewers, thanks in advance, ps, a run through on your personal disinfection technique using tools we've not heard of would be the nuts. Cheers bud.
Hi, I used all the steps and did different formats but it is still not being recognized by my windows computer. I can see the device under Devices and Printers and remove the device but even after doing the commands it is not working. If it would be physically damaged it should not pop-up under devices and printers. Please advise. It is a Kingston Data Traveller pendrive 32 gb
I followed every step of your video and we have the same pen drive "Kingston Datatraveler" but when I am writing the command for selecting the disk 1(pen drive in my case), it says : "The disk you specified is not valid. There is no disk selected." It should be because in the 1st step the disk is not online but Unknown. -- I tried many times to put in and out from the port but no results... Any information how can I fix this?
No usable free extent could be found. It may be that there is insufficient free space to create a partition at the specified size and offset. Specify different size and offset values or don't specify either to create the maximum sized partition. It may be that the disk is partitioned using the MBR disk partitioning format and the disk contains either 4 primary partitions, (no more partitions may be created), or 3 primary partitions and one extended partition, (only logical drives may be created). i received this when i said to create partition what can i do
Sometimes a physically unresponsive usb disk can be fixed by cleaning up the connection points with isopropyl alcohol or contact spray. Try that as a last resort.
Hi Nico, I bought two usb T2 and one has a serial number and the other says Flash U_disk3.0-0:0 for a serial number. My Network does not recognize the usb without a serial number how do I update the firmware to get a serial number? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hey I tried all these remedies but none worked, But this did! I checked my msconfig general settings and notice I had selective start up ticked. So I figured maybe some needed drivers and servers were disabled over the years from tweaking my PC, so I selected Normal startup, rebooted, and sure enough that fixed my problem with my USB external drive not being recognized and disconnecting. Not only was that fixed, but a handful of Event Viewer errors, sudden UA-cam video stream disruptions, and overall performance was fixed. Now I get a clean report on Event viewer system logs and my PC runs smoothly. I recommend anyone still having trouble to check your System Config settings by running msconfig in the windows search and checking the startup selection. If not on normal startup, tick it and restart and see if that works cause it work for me and then some. All right thats my helpful share, Take care guys!
So, Nico, I have a USB issue I cannot figure out... I have a USB stick that is formatted exfat, and worked a week ago in my HP laptop. Now, it does not auto-open when plugged in. I can see it if I use diskpart > list disk, or look in Device Manager. I just cannot access the data inside. I have tried it in other devices, and it works fine. Just not in this specific laptop. I ran through cleaning the USB, creating a primary partition and reformatting it (I tried ntfs and exfat) twice, but it still does not show up. It even does not show up when booting into Safe Mode. I've plugged it into two other Windows laptops, my Windows desktop, my MacBook Pro and my Chromebook, and ALL other devices open it just fine. Is there something you can think of to get it to open on this laptop? It's an HP running Windows 11 Pro, version 10.0.22631. I'd really like to not junk this USB.
flash drive doesnt show up in the list disk command in the elevated cmd... it's like it doesnt exist and it does it to all flash drives, corrupted or not...
Hi hope you are well! My PC is facing problem it's infected with Win64/Expiro virus I saw ur video on how to remove it but it didn't work I tried twice but it's not working 😢😢

so if diskpart just halts at "clean" it's a hardware issue? if so, that's really confusing it was working just fine after i got it (which was brand new), but while I was sharing some files from my drive to it, it suddenly disconnected out of nowhere. and now it's all corrupt and I can't even format it 😭😭
when I typed "clean" it sent the following: "DiskPart has encountered an error: A device which does not exist was specified. See the system Event Log for more information."
Thanks Nico it worked for me. I chose exFAT instead of FAT32. So windows does detect the usb as a general usb and the word Kingston doesnt come. There was a kaspersky virus which I had to get rid of perhaps I got it from a reprographics shop while getting a print.
Detail disk shows Disk Id = 00000000, Status = No media, Final message = There are no volumes. Tried "create volume" and variations but nothing worked. "create partition did not work cuz there is no volume. USB sometimes shows up in File Manager but mostly NOT. Disk management assigns it a drive letter but no option to format it. From day 1, this flash drive had problems that Windows noticed within 1 minute and suggested a format which I did but now its gotten worse. So my question is "How do I create a Volume onto it"? Thanks!
It went well till the 'clean' step. After entering 'clean' I got this message - "Diskpart has encountered an error,..." mentioning there is no such location
I have a USB that is not recognised. It is not working on laptop, PC or smart TV so the stick is the problem. I have worked stored on my USB that I need. How do I fix this?
I have a flash drive that was damaged before and it did not want to be formatted, so I downloaded its firmware, but the flashing failed in the end, so I removed it from the computer and reinstalled it, and it did not want to show me the disk space, but the computer recognizes it as a USB connection only and does not recognize it. On it as a flash drive 😢

Mine show. But said virtual disk service error: no media on the device. Also said no volume. It does show that it's connected but I won't show me anything or allow me to even connect it. It's not physically damaged either.
I am running vista home, and I have a 2 port USB 3.0 card, works great in windows xp, but not vista so I was trying to update the drivers using iobit driver booster 7, and unfortunately it did not set any restore points, the thumb drive was working but now only the usb hard drive will come up in that port. I am considering buying the full vista ultimate and just formatting that drive and doing a clean install, This system is kind of unique, 3 sata hard drives each with its own operating system, and using the boot menu I can choose which drive comes up, soon that will be a hardware choice as I ordered a 4 port sata power switch, basically shutting off power to any of 3 drives, using a switch to control which drive comes up. Anyway due to the uniqueness of this system, floppy controller port, IDE controller port, 4 sata ports, I said Ill make this thing triple boot, XP Pro, Vista Home, and Dos 6.22/win 3.11 each on its own bootable drive, this is just for nostalgia, no gaming, just to see if I can make all three work and play music and get online I have to replace the dvd/cd drive with a cd only drive so that dos/win 3.11 can access it, got an old Creative/Ensoniq PCI card coming that is supposed to work with dos and win 3.11, already have the dos drivers downloaded for this card. for win xp and vista ill have a USB DVD/CD-RW anyway the trickiest part will be getting win 3.11 online, I have some PCI modems, I am hoping I can get one of those to work. I have tried uninstalling that port in the device manager, as it is not running because it has a problem, but the next time i reboot, it just puts that driver right back, the usb 3.0 card I got XP drivers for it and it works in XP just fine, I was hoping to get it running in vista as well, I kind of like to see my device manager all nice and working with no devices showing a problem.
Did it work for you guys?
yes
it did not, the clean command did not succeed
What should I try to solve it?
Its works
nope, it says : Please select a volume and try again
yes. thank you so much

This system is kind of unique, 3 sata hard drives each with its own operating system, and using the boot menu I can choose which drive comes up, soon that will be a hardware choice as I ordered a 4 port sata power switch, basically shutting off power to any of 3 drives, using a switch to control which drive comes up.
Anyway due to the uniqueness of this system, floppy controller port, IDE controller port, 4 sata ports, I said Ill make this thing triple boot, XP Pro, Vista Home, and Dos 6.22/win 3.11 each on its own bootable drive, this is just for nostalgia, no gaming, just to see if I can make all three work and play music and get online
I have to replace the dvd/cd drive with a cd only drive so that dos/win 3.11 can access it, got an old Creative/Ensoniq PCI card coming that is supposed to work with dos and win 3.11, already have the dos drivers downloaded for this card. for win xp and vista ill have a USB DVD/CD-RW
anyway the trickiest part will be getting win 3.11 online, I have some PCI modems, I am hoping I can get one of those to work.
In diskpart where i go to list disk it show my usb with size 0 & free 0 withh no media.
What is the solution please
