Strap Showcase Episode 1: Want to make your Hamilton Khaki Mechanical more unique? This is where you will want to be...
Replacement watch straps. If there is one thing we’re pretty hot on here at WatchGecko is watch straps. We’ve been online retailing straps since 2010 and almost every day since we receive emails, messages, calls and questions asking us for ‘the best straps for my watch’. This is where our strap showcases come into play.
We want to create a go-to place for you all to check out what our straps really look like in person, on the wrist fitted to your favourite watch. We explain the thought process behind why certain straps work over other options available, things to consider when looking for a strap and the best colour options.
The Hamilton Khaki Mechanical
This is a popular field watch which means it will lend itself to more practical, durable styled straps. The watch is also more old school in its design so it will naturally suit straps that are similar. ‘American spirit and Swiss precision’ is the message behind Hamilton’s creations and this is clear with the whole line up of the Hamilton Khaki Field line up.
The use of vintage lume on the Hamilton means we can create some pretty cool combos as we can use contrasting stitching to pick that colour out. Oh, and we shouldn’t forget that the watch comes with drilled lugs making its ideal for strap changes.
The military green look
To start with, if you like the general look of the watch on the standard green NATO but want a 2 piece strap, then take a look at the Cordura Premium in Green and Yellow. This strap really has that military look as with its green colour, its a tough Cordura material so you can wear it anywhere and also really breathable. One of the key reasons this combo works so well is the way the stitching colour on the strap is the same as the vintage lume of the hands and indices.
Sticking with green straps, we have the Winstone MKII Vintage Leather in Vintage Green and the Vintage Soft Top Grain Leather in Forest Green. Both of these leather straps stick with the traditional military theme however with the use of soft quality leather on both, it means they're more suited to everyday wrist time where the watch isn't pushed to its limits as much. - Навчання та стиль
Omg I just got my hammy and was desperate for strap ideas!!!
Perfect timing! Which was your favourite combination from this line-up?
WatchGecko definitely the olive soft top grain. MN strap a close second!
I really enjoyed taking a watch and exploring the different strap options. I would like to see more of these.
I have the watch and now i want some of these straps as well. Thanks for a great job as usual!
I took your recommendation for my khaki automatic and purchased your reddish-brown band and, it has transformed the watch into a real keeper.
This video series is an amazing idea. 👍
Kington leather dress in tan looks fantastic! Great idea for a new series!
That was one of our favourites! Thanks for the support.
Excellent. These series are great. Some of those straps look awesome on the Hamilton.
Thats great to hear! Which was your favourite combination?
@@watchgecko zuludiver cordura green with stitching. Wicked.
Looking for a new strap for my newly purchased khaki bronze. Thank-you for showing many cool options
I got colareb venezia strap for my KFM. love it soooo much.
Brilliant video!!
I have a Hamilton khaki field automatic on the brown leather strap it can with. I love it. In the summer I put it on a Zulu black and gray Bond strap . It looks very nice. More sporty .
That was a very nice selection of straps for the black dial version. What colours would complimet the blue dial version? Thank you.
This watch looks good on anything. Period.
Khaki mechanical white dial has really grown on me, I like it on a light brown/tan ostrich strap.
Thanks for this video. Very helpful.
Man, I love the green straps! I plan to pick up a Hamilton Khaki mechanical soon and don’t like nato straps. Not sure which strap I will pick.
1:35 this looks gorgeous!
Will these straps work on Hamilton Khaki Automatic as well? BTW loved the Olive soft leather and Kingston in light brown and Winchester in dark brown. I am tempted to buy Hamilton mechanical just so I can try these straps on them.
Nice new series! Please do the Timex Marlin 34mm Handwind
We have many ideas for future watches, make sure to subscribe with the notification bell turned on for our latest videos!
Hi guys, sorry I know I'm a week late to the party but I have a quick question I'm hoping you can help me with......I love the look of the Hamilton and am thinking of pulling the trigger and making it my every day watch. On thing that's holding me back is the gap between the case and lugs when on a two peice leather strap, it just doesn't look right to me. Have you smarter one piece options you can share a few pictures of. A soft sued one piece for work makes it perfect in my head but wanted to test it before purchasing. Thanks lots, loving what you guys do
great video thank you
I thought the stainless steel band looked very sharp on the Hamilton.....to the point where I am considered buying that exact one from you guys !!! Great looking combo , and I thought all the bands you picked out looked really sharp. Let’s face it the Hamilton field watch is just classic cool and makes nearly every thing look good
I have the 38mm Khaki Field Automatic, it’s perfect for me with its Hamilton steel bracelet. Every time I’ve tried a leather strap on it, and I’ve bought many, I soon after put the bracelet back on.
I like them all.
Nice combo
Great idea for a new series. I like the Cordura Green and Yellow. Speedmaster please! Racing style?
We're glad you enjoyed it! We hope you look forward to the next episode.
Definitely the first strap; also the Geckota in reddish brown, followed by the Zuludiver Marine (in desert sand WITHOUT the stripe [too racer look] and in conclusion, the Canvas Nato in Army green, is a good choice.
The rest are indeed possibilities, however they do seem a bit try-hard for such an historic time-piece.
Footnote:
I agree with all the wrong choices as well (that they're wrong) and for the same reasons.
Thank you for the support! Make sure to check out our other videos, it'd be great to hear your thoughts on our other strap recommendations.
When will your greenwood vegan cork strap will be back in stock?
I have the black case version of this watch. Wondering what strap colors would be best other than of course just black and Grey.
Please make a video for the white dial khaki field too
You guys make great products as I own a few from your collection, I have the 42mm khaki field day/date automatic version which has the same old school vintage dial layout that I just love, I really like the look of the canvas NATO on this style watch, I think it compliments this watch beautifully, it would look great on mine, I'm gonna have to order one now⌚👍👍
I realllllly love the black case/strap combo....but I wont have the option to wear different straps :( what to do.
I like default one and dark brown geckota duntz leather NATO one at 3:26
Also please do Hamilton Khaki KING with champagne color dial - - I think it fits with TONS of straps
I've tried several straps on my Hamilton, and although they all look good, I find most straps too uncomfortable to wear. That's why - for now - I've landed on the elastic-type nylon strap. That's the only one that feels comfortable to me, although admittedly I haven't given other straps time to break in.
Tbf, the hamilton natol is great quality and they sell loads of other options on their site too.
Could you do the same with the same watch but in white? Thanks.
Nice video
pls do the seamaster 300
Is this hamilton the 42mm case version ?
Make a video about the Marathon General Purpose Mechanical Desert Tan!
Please feature the Glycine Airman Bronze GMT. Thanks !
Ashland Leather as nice watch straps also!
I have my Hamilton khaki king Auto on the green and yellow zuludiver
Is it safe to go swimming with Cordura
I 💯 agree about straps
Would please make a video like this for the Glycine No.1 Purist white dial ? Thanks
Hi! We will definitely keep this in mind thank you for your support.
Random question. What is the music in this vid?
I have the KFA 38 and KFM 38. Both watches are black dial and factory bracelets. The KFA 38 silver dial and KFM 38 in white will be next. I'm going to purchase the oem bracelets separately.
All those leather options look great, except they’re missing bead blasted buckles.
Would you please create a video for the black PVD version of this watch? 🙏
Great idea Luis, We have many videos planned for the future. Make sure to stay subscribed with the notification bell turned on. :D
I just sent my PVD one back because I didn't think any straps would go with it. If they make a strap video for it I'm only going to want it back again 😄
is this small? 38mm?
Thx, i love to wear my Hamilton wth White Dial h70455553. Realy everythig looks good with it :)
the dark brown leather strap is irresistable for this hammy model...
That leather nato negatively adds a lot of height to watch which takes away from the slimness of watch which for me is a big selling point.
1st woohoo! Good idea for a series. You've got to do the SARB017 Alpinist surely 👍
Agree with you Peter. Having a hard time myself finding a nice strap for my Alpinist
@@sylvainlanglois3889 I know it's like a life long pursuit!
Would also love to see one for the Alpinist
Hi Peter! Thanks for the support. We will add this to the ever growing list of Watches we want to showcase. If there are any other watches you'd like to see make an appearance on this series make sure to let us know.
Italian leather for me. Great review. Some combinations I thought might have been a good match actually aren’t.
Thank you very much! We hope that future episodes will give you all the insight you need to pick the best straps!
Can you do an episode with a Sinn 556i?
We have many ideas for future watches, make sure to subscribe with the notification bell turned on for our latest videos!
I actually thought the black rubber strap to ‘avoid’ looked quite good.
非常棒的視頻
Lots to choose from here but personally I’d love to see more choice for my so-called smaller 6.5” wrist. The model in the film seems to be on the last hole of most straps and the NATO’s all look as though they have too much excess to deal with.
I don’t know if Watch Gecko makes short straps but if not then some other good brands do, ie, Colareb, Delugs, Hirsch,
The light length on the khaki makes it ideal for NATOs over 2 piece straps IMO.
Still kind of conflicted. The long lugs steer me away from most two piece straps as they feel odd with the massive gaps. The original "nato-style" I guess fits the watch pretty well, but it's simply too short. On my wrist the tongue barely, just barely reaches the - stupidly - immovable leather keeper. On an olive-with-white-stripe Marine nationale-style strap I'm left cold with the combo. I'm apprehensive about trying another nato style fearing it'll do no more than the MN. Hmph. Maybe something will come up.
Sell it and buy a 42mm Hamilton?
what’s your camera!?
Hi there, Currently we're using the Canon 800D for all our videos.
Great watch but I’m not feeling the gap that 2 piece straps leave
Agree with you . I had put it on a leather strap hated the gap and now changed back to nato
❤
straps for green dial 104. thanks
Up your alley 😂
This watch wasn't made to be worn with straps, but rather with a Nato only. You can see a huge whole between the case and the lug.
For me, the buckle needs to match the finish of the case of the watch.
I would’ve loved to have seen a black strap option. Just so it could be ruled out.
That’s why you can pause UA-cam videos. Or do a screenshot.
Can you make a tutorial on how to turn my dog's tail into a watch strap?
The two piece straps are so long though. Common concern I have with watch gecko straps. Very well made, but most have to be worn on second to last hole, and my wrist is 7.25".
Nice video...but none of the straps look as good as what comes with the watch...Hamilton nailed it!
NATO look best IMO since they fill up the gaps
Wish you didn’t go through the straps so fast, I can barely see how it looks
Ok people. Are the lug gaps really an issue? It’s the last hurdle for buying the watch. When it’s displayed with the straps flat it looks a bit much, but on the wrist it seems a little better.
To me the gaps are a “bridge too far”.
Hi please send me this watch. Big fan of your channel. Thank you.
NATO strap is the best fit
The gap between the lugs and the strap looks disgusting.
Lugs are too long. The gap between the watch strap and the watch itself looks odd.
Ya these are really meant for natos
Jacksonk75 K its a shame because I hate NATO’s 😢
Isn’t there earlier models that don’t have such a large gap?
StaticRome I bought the Hamilton khaki automatic which is similar but has shorter lugs and a date. It comes in either 38mm or 42mm. Hope that helps buddy.
Looks just fine with a nato leather strap, because it goes under the case.
too much gap between spring bar and watch.. better on one piece straps then 2 piece straps
Sorry, but those nato straps with the loopy business on the side look really nasty. I have that watch and have been thinking about a strap change for 3 years. Some of those brown ones look really promising.
Has to be nato, otherwise the gaps are horrendous!
Why bother paying that much for a Khaki - which is basically an imitation of their vintage GG-W-113/MIL-W-3818B, when you can pick up an original for about $450, or less?
Yikes, “mind the gap”! Glad my 38mm KFA has shorter lugs.
Pierced-Lugs, not Drilled-Lugs.
Shame about the fauxtina.
That huge gap...looks awful.
Listen, I've been changing tires on trash trucks every night in a big parking lot for 2years, my opinion should be respected-
I've worn the Khaki field mechanical every day sans showers ( easy reminder to wind) and there's no ... NO making this watch look good. Drop the 24hr ring and do something to let the indices glow longer than 10 min.
Listen, as a laborer there's Times in the dark you!l be in a position as you check the time - you don't know which angle you got on your arm to your face, HMS hands only ain't enough, and a 12 indicator would be a luxury. ..
So straps, all in all good strap on a bonk of a watch like this?..."that's a nice strap! " is what'll you'll get lol
Buy something easy to clean and disinfect
good watch
Depends on what you do when wearing a watch. Just because it’s called a field watch doesn’t mean it should only be worn in combat..or while changing tire trucks at night. Long Island Watch Company makes flieger watches, sounds like that’s what you need, lots of lume, and has the standard triangle with two dots on either side at 12 o’clock.
Thanks for tolerating my sarcasm. And thanks for the pointer. I do like my khaki, tho I meant to say the HMS hands aren’t enough without a 12oclock indicator.
I’m familiar with island tho haven’t looked into the watch type you mentioned, will do
Thanks again
Omg,such a crap looking watch, money wise ,you can get a christopher ward or a geckota
LOL. A Christopher Ward over a Hamilton? Keep off the crack
I don’t like the look of the dial, looks like a child’s watch. But a lot of watch collectors like authentic looking field watches, the dials at least.
