Great video. I bought a khaki automatic (the 38 mm version - the curse of the wrist size) and it was the best buy of 2018. These Hamilton field watches are so easy to fall in love with. Accurate, good looking, great for a variety of occasions etc. (btw: thanks also for the Hamilton khaki automatic vs. manual video from a couple of months ago). Greetings from Slovenia and best wishes for 2019.
Love my Khaki; being Ex military who was issued a CWC G10 quartz; I had to put nostalgia behind me and grab a mechanical field that ticked the box of a G10, had to be old school, had to be Swiss and had to have a military vibe 👍💪🏴
Same here! I like that they're thinner, simpler, and allow you to control the power reserve. I wish it were an industry standard to allow the option of auto and hand wind on most watch models.
Winding the clock by hand reminds me of my deceased father who used to take off his watch and wind it up before going to sleep. This is the best reason for me to buy this model of watch.
after 4 years of apple watch, i got a khaki fleid mechanical like in your video and man... i love it so much.. its funny that this watch is more exiting for me than buying every year a applewatch which tells me how i should feel :D
My wife and I took a 10-day trip through the EU earlier this year. We sailed along the Danube river starting in Vienna then to Durnstein - Melk (Austria), Grein - Linz (Austria), Linz - Passau (lower Bavaria, Germany.), and Munich (German state of Bavaria). We toured many cities, towns, and villages along the way….it was awesome! Of the 70 plus watches in my collection, I only brought one watch with me on that trip. It was my Hamilton Khaki King Automatic #H64455533 - and it served me very well!
Completely agree! I have the 38mm Khaki Field Auto (mainly because I am OCD about having a date on my watches) and it is my EDC watch. I find that, out of all my watches, I look at this one the most just to admire it! Love it's versatility and the fact I can put it on any strap and it looks amazing! Easily my best watch acquisition of 2018!
I love this watch. The 80hr power reserve means I can wear it every other day and find time during the day to wind the spring up to full power, and most people are shocked when I tell them it's a Swiss watch!
I grew up in 60’s, hand wind was the vast majority. Wasn’t a big issue to wind watch once a day, you took a fast check of time at same time. Lots of peopled used to set their watches ahead certain amount of time, not because of watch lossing time, but to get them moving ahead of time. My wife has every clock in house set to different times ahead. I have several vistok hand winds. Love them. Might buy Khaki some day.
Love my Hamilton Khaki Field old paper dial! My brother saw it on my wrist and now he's got the same one. My son got the Khaki King auto for christmas. The family is filling up with Hamilton watch owners.
I like Hamilton! Just bought a khaki king 50 days ago. It's insanely accurate, whenever I check the time, it only runs within10 secs fast or slow. Never adjusted the time so far. Highly recommend!
You bring a very valid point about mechanicals. I believe there was more of I guess a relational point in the days of old when a man would take off his 34-36mm mechanical watch back then and wind it because he would depend on it to tell him the time. Simple mechanism, but profound nonetheless.
My parents bought me one of the LLBean Hamilton watches many many years ago. After a while it stopped working and I sent it back to LLBean for a replacement. By that point, they were no longer selling it and gave me the money back. I sure wish I still had it. I really need to add one to my collection after watching your video.
I agree. We went to Hawaii a couple weeks ago for 5 days. I always take 2 watches on all trips (pleasure and work) one automatic and one quartz. I took the Monster gen 2 and a Citizen diver (probably my favorite watch). The Citizen was never worn. The Monster went from swimming, to snorkeling to just lounging. It just feels good to find the right watch for the right time. Now my memories are "imprinted" on that watch.
My favorite watch during winter. The sleeves on my jackets and coats slip right over it and doesn’t snag. Extremely comfortable. No nonsense, durable, and reliable. Also my most accurate watch.
I had one like this when I served with the 11th Armored Cavalry in Viet Nam. I wear a new one now (with the 80 hr power reserve). It’s the less is more thing. Iconic.
Welcome to my neck of the woods! (5 years ago 😂), glad you enjoyed San Diego! I just bought a Khaki mechanical, it should be here tomorrow. My only uncertainty is winding/overwinding it.
I bought a 1963 hamilton Rodney 10k gold filled presentation watch ,Inland Steel 25 year watch. I could not believe how good it runs, and the movement is a piece of artwork. it has the 735 movement. these hamilton watches are as good as any watch in the world, and priced right too.
A good alternative is the marathon general purpose inox mechanical. It's a fantastic field watch with tritium lume. The eta 2801 is very accurate in mine.
The history and provenance of the Hammy field watch knows no equivalent. Sure the Rolex Explorer is a “better” watch by most every measure, I would be terrified of damaging it at every turn. This makes the Hammy the best choice in this category.
Happy Holidays to all. A simple thing executed well is a beautiful thing. The more a thing does the more it distract you from the task at hand(pun intended). A watch that tells me the time while I'm running around town is all I need. For everything else I have my cell phone.
On a serious note, I’ve been around for a bit and just wanted to say good job and your videos are really polished; they’re funny, informative, and a good source of information and entertainment.
Jory, I bought a hand-wind khaki over 10 years ago for my little brother whom is a history buff and then wished I'd bought one for myself ever since! A deep rabbit hole later and now I own both a Hamilton A7 and a Bulova A11 from WWII. So Hamilton never made a hacking seconds in WWII, they still produced over 100k of their model for the war effort! (Sub-seconds), oh and a miniscule 32mm! How 'times' change!
I bought my first Hammy khaki field auto in late november. It went straight to the top watch of my watch year!! Not bad, in competition with my Seiko SKX009! Very versitale watch I must say my Hammy. It sits very low on my wrist so it doesn’t bump into something very easy. Then it has 80 hrs powerreserve, yes you heard correct as you already know!! Isn’t that amazing or what??!! I wish you a good year my friend!!‼️😍😍
1:30 SO TRUE! I usually have a hard time deciding which watches to bring when I travel/go on holiday. End up strapping one of my G-Shocks on to my backpack, a diver (and a hand full of natos) to wear daily or to the beach, pool, snorkel and something a little dressier for dinners and a solar powered watch "just in case" while contemplating if I should bring my ABC watch to check out the altimeter during flights and stuff maybe I'll go on a short hike and wanna see how high I am and a compass can come in handy right?. My GF always gives me shit for this BUT WHO CARES AS LONG AS I'M HAPPY!
Next on my list for sure! While I do enjoy my Seiko SNK807 for sure as it was my first proper horological watch and I do like tool watches like field watches, I recently held a Khaki mechanical in my hands and it just felt right to me and I do like that old school military aesthetic, I kind of see it as the Jeep of watches as they both have significant military history behind both brands like the Willys MB of WW2 and the Hamilton’s worn by the same troops that drove those same Willys during the war. It’s just cool that my Wrangler JK and the Khaki are historically tied to those.... direct descendants if you will.
I love how you notice and focus on the details. Yes, please make that video on the movement replacement for your L.L. Bean Hamilton = very cool. Great video, Sir - Thank you.
I own this watch. Love everything about it, but scratched mine a short while ago. Banged it against a glass window as I was walking past and some of the coating came of from the lower right lug. I feel like I should'nt be too worried about it, because the watch is meant to be used and maybe even abused, but it still bothers me everytime I see it. So it's durable, just be carefull with the coating on the case. Subscribed yesterday, I love your energy! 💪
I've been using a Seiko 5 (SNK809) for the last several years for the exact same reasons. I was about to get a Khaki, but the 69USD price of the SNK was too good to pass up.
The snk809 rekindled my interest in watches. I read an article about a guy who found one when he was digging in his back garden, it was 4 feet down, scratched to bits, but was in overall good condition and when he picked it up, it started working instantly! I ordered one then and there. Unfortunately, it was way too small for my 7.5 inch wrist, so I sold it at a good profit. I’ve been buying lots of watches ever since.
I also have one and I'm pretty happy with it, but I've managed to scratch the hardlex crystal. I'm going to keep the scratch for a while because it has a charm, but if scratches accumulate I'm going to think of replacing the hardlex with a sapphire or even an acrylic crystal (I know it scratches easily but you can polish them easily as well).
My wrist is in the 7-7.5 inch range, and the SNK809 can be a bit small per height on top of two layers of nylon (I generally have it on top of 1 layer of nylon or wear it on a leather watchband), it's one of the few affordable watches I've found that don't feel bulky, and suits the proportion sensibilities we had before the past two decades or so. And it's a field watch, so... it's supposed to be a bit on the smaller side
Got the same one with the white dial and this watch is just amazing. Love the case, the feel and the look. And with a leather nato you can even explore its dressy side 🙂
I opened up the back of mine recently and learned there's an antimagnetic shield inside! Nice added bonus that I don't remember seeing in any of Hamilton's descriptions.
My daily beater IS a Hamilton Khaki Automatic. Great for every day, nature, and even the hospital inpatient units. Not afraid of mud or any bodily fluids cause I can just wash the watch AND the strap XD (wearing a Nato Perlon hybrid)
I purchased my first Hamilton wristwatch a few months ago. Then my second, third, and seventh. I own a Khaki Field King. It is rather thin and comfortable I barely note it’s there at times.
I think to buy a Ham Field Auto 38 with black dial. This ones look awesome with shiny black straps with white stitching. The markers are printed, but the dial still has some interesting details on it, like the concentric circles, the date fits nicely at 3 in this 38 mm version, the hands are more sophisticated than in other versions, also the red triangle on the second hand gives it a nice look. Plus it's inexpensive, has 80h and is a very versatile watch. At first didn't notice, but yes a field watch is a must. And Hamilton definitely makes the best ones.
Recently picked up the Hamilton Khaki Field mechanical watch with date function.. I picked the olive green dial as at times the dial looks black, other times grey, and other times olive green. One of best “value” watch out there. Hard to find a better watch at this price point!
I recently purchased the Hamilton khaki pilot, the day date function seemed off. Returned it and ended up getting the brown dial version of this watch instead, complete win. I think the brown dial version is underrated also.
What do you think of the Bertucci -2T Super Classic Titanium as compare to the Hamilton Khaki Field Watch? What do you think of the Erikas Original MN strap? Do you think it will match the look with your watch or the Bertucci-2T? Thanks
I’m getting the black dial automatic Khaki with the date as a gift next week (at least I believe so). Need the date because I’m always writing cheques.
@@jtec99 I hope you're not asking me. I am not an expert. Jory is the guy to ask. I do love my Hamilton though. Wear it more than my Rolex. AND it actually keeps time more accurately.
@@jtec99 Thanks, but owning a Rolex does not suggest knowledge. All it shows is that I can save like a bandit for 2 years, just to spend what I saved on a watch. hahahaha
I love handwind! It’s being interactive with your watch! Your video was great as usual, then you just kicked it to phenomenal at the end😉 Glad you had a blast!
Think about buying a khaki field mechanical but read a lot about the hand winding breaking right out of the box. So how reliable is the watch and is it worth the investment?
I use the 24 hour format on my casio sgw100 digital, so I love the fact it has the 24 format on the face. I also like the idea of hand winding a watch, it's that interaction between you and the watch I don't get with my digital. I cannot wait to get mine.
This is a much better video, Atomic Time Teller. :P. I also like the way you've neatly tucked in the excess. Seeing people with tons of strap flapping over is a real OCD pet peeve of mine.
I really love the hamilton because its so simple and functional. I just love how the watch is so thin. But unfortunately I won’t buy it because i have a field watch already. My snk807 does the job.
Oddly enough, I've been looking into Hamilton watches a lot lately and noticed a couple of their field watches on sale. It's a brand I've been wanting to get into, so I contemplated it very hard yet ended up with another Seiko instead (Orange Samurai, which I currently have on a 3-hole leather rally strap with orange stitching that is a style I've never tried before). I kinda feel like I'll probably end up with a Hamilton dress watch as that Jazzmaster just keeps growing on me every time I see it I motion. Oh, and there is something to winding a watch by hand as I wind my Strela Signal nightly even though I don't wear it quite as frequently as I used to. I'm pondering adding a manual wind chronograph, but this talk about field watches also got me pondering the Marathon version with tritium tubes as I have their Navigator pilot watch and often use it as a nightstand clock to avoid having a brighter light from an actual clock or my phone shining in my eyes.
I recently purchased the Hamilton khaki 42mm auto. I’m in love with this watch! However, I’ve heard some negative things on the H10 movement. That it was prone to breaking if even slightly over wound. I Acualy heard do not hand wind more than 10 times? What are your thoughts?
No date, handwinding: love it
Just got mine in the mail today! My first watch! I absolutely love it.
How accurate is it?
same
Simplicity is beautiful.
It does one thing, and one thing beautifully, tells the time.

This video is a love letter to a watch. One of your best.
It looks nice on that band. Nice job. I do prefer a "hand wind only" as they are typically thinner.
Same here! I like that they're thinner, simpler, and allow you to control the power reserve. I wish it were an industry standard to allow the option of auto and hand wind on most watch models.
My every day manual watch is my nomos club campus 38. No complications, clean look :)
That’s my every day manual watch as well. Nice pick!
That's the every day manual watch I'm striving towards. Just got this Khaki Field Mechanical and now I want more 😩
Didn't your Father buy that watch for you as a gift? That alone makes it very special!
My mom and dad indeed!
that would make any7 watch special.

Gotta keep a lookout for when they're not over $100, though. Used to be $50-60...
@@briang3598 some places they still are like creation watches... Or a Vostok amphibian

Everytime i cannot sleep i just take a look at the khaki‘s dial.

A serious watch with its purpose in Life clearly defined, unlike so many others. With a serious strap. all good.

“Plump breakfast sausages” 😂😂😂
Love the watch but I also hope that Hamilton made a smaller version of the Khaki Aviation because 42mm is too big for my wrists small wrists
Used to own the white-dailed and larger version. Sold it. Black dial definitely better!
This is a much better video, Atomic Time Teller. :P. I also like the way you've neatly tucked in the excess. Seeing people with tons of strap flapping over is a real OCD pet peeve of mine.
Merry Christmas, and Happy 2019, T3 - great video - love this watch.
Thanks, very informative. Been planning to get this watch for some time, if it is windable, how often do you need to do it to keep it running?
I love my 38mm khaki field auto. It is a bit thicker with 10.5mm,but I need the 10bar wr where I live, mate!
I really love the hamilton because its so simple and functional. I just love how the watch is so thin. But unfortunately I won’t buy it because i have a field watch already. My snk807 does the job.
I love this watch! I have the white dial version!
Loving the Mr. T look
Everything you have said I completely agree.
I got the brown-dialed model for X-Mas ! :D
I have the white dial 42mm, love it ( $695 A little pricey)
the Rolex Explorer can be used for dressed formal occasions or for informal outdoors/field use
I recently purchased the Hamilton khaki 42mm auto. I’m in love with this watch! However, I’ve heard some negative things on the H10 movement. That it was prone to breaking if even slightly over wound. I Acualy heard do not hand wind more than 10 times? What are your thoughts?
Hamilton is a great brand. They have always for some crazy reason not ended up in my collection. But I have to get one!
Not only was hand winding a watch, no big deal in 60’s, we knew how to do it by grade 1.
One of the best watches, and most beautifull.
