      @@spalace7919 I don't know the model number. Moen has a pretty good website. They say you can take a picture of the faucet and upload it and they will tell you the model number. I have been meaning to test it out and see how it works.

      Good luck figuring it out. I know the feeling. Let me know what the trick is when you figure it out. Some handles have a little Allen key hole on the back side. It would be nice if they were all the same.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  Рік тому +1

      Coming soon! There is a cartridge behind the water handle in the shower too. I need to replace one at my house. It's not leaking but it is stuck and the hot water won't come on. It is similar to replacing a cartridge on a sink handle. It is really tough to get out though and there is a pully tool that you need to use to get the cartridge out.

    of course the wife is behind asking all sort of questions and putting doubts in our heads. It really helps when someone believes in what we are doing because that type of questions look more like criticism. Despite my comments that are aimed to strengthen wife husband relationships, this is a good video. Still the faucet valve is not like mine after I removed the first part

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  Рік тому +2

      Thanks! Yeah there are more than a few different types of faucet valves out there. But they generally all come out the same way after you get the handle off. The key is to remove the bolt or pin that holds the cartage in. Once you get that out of the way you should be able to get the cartage out. My wife was actually pretty happy that I fixed the faucet. It is so nice to not have a leaking faucet now.

    Good video. But I needed help reinstalling the handle which is similar to yours but it's separate from the base. My handle doesn't to want to go back in. Without the screw it just keeps popping back out. It doesn't want to seat on the new cartridge (which is all the way down & secured with the nut.) God, I hate Moen!

    • @ThatHobby

      Mine had a cover to hold the cartage down. check out 2:00 to see what it looks like. The cover may be stuck in your handle. Mine were pretty corroded and I had to clean them up really good to get them back on there.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  2 місяці тому

      For my shower there is a screw head under the cap. So I got lucky there. You can double check to make sure there isn't a screw under the cap and then inspect the sides for a Allen key or screw hole. If you can't find anything see if you can find a name anywhere on it and look it up before you try to unscrew it like this.

      There are a lot of good videos online about taking faucet handles off but I couldn't find one about taking off a handle like this without a screw in it. So I thought I should make one. Its pretty simple once you figure it out. The tough part is getting the handle off if its all corroded like this.

    Why wouldn't you just run both hot and cold, then shut them off. Then see if the leak is hot or cold?

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  7 днів тому

      You would have to shut the water off under the sink to test it that way. You could do that but just make sure the shut off valves aren't that old. Mine always seem to break when I shut them off and then I have a much bigger job to do. So I just shut off the main water to the house when I work on the facet handles. If your shut off valves are kind of old and you want to test it that way you might want to buy a few new ones and keep them on hand for emergencies.

      @@ThatHobby - What I meant was, that for me, I don't have shut offs at the upstairs bathroom sinks. Mine was started to leak, I turned on both hot and cold for just a minute, then shut both off, the leak continued to be hot. So, instead of shutting off the water to the entire house, I just turned the hot off at the HW tank. That way, if I needed to go to the store to get parts, My wife still had cold water, could use the toilet etc. You just changed it out hoping it was the right one. I also just replaced the o-rings on the old cartridge just to see, low and behold, no more leak. Saved me going to the hardware store and $25 bucks! Woohoo! Cheers...

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  7 днів тому

      That's great! Mine was in there pretty tight and got tore up taking it out. That's great that you were able to test it that way too. You must have pretty nice plumbing. My hot water takes forever to get to the bathroom sink upstairs and my cold water is always lukewarm. So it would take a while to run that test. But it sounds like a pretty good way to test it.

    All I get is a constant spin and handle never moves upward

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  Рік тому

      I wonder if the threads on the faucet handle are striped? The corrosion could have worn them down. Try spinning it counter clockwise for a while and then pull up on it. If it doesn't feel like its loosening then try checking under the sink and see if hardware under the counter is moving. Maybe it is loose under there and preventing the handle from unscrewing?

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  Рік тому +1

      This sounds like a tough one. It kind of sounds like there is something holding it down. Some faucet handles are held down by an allen key screw. It is on the side or the back. Once you loosen it you can take it off. But if it doesn't have a screw under the cap or an allen key screw on the side or the back and you can't unscrew or pull off the base then something could be broken inside the handle?

      Watch the reassembly chapter to make sure you have the cartage in right. 3:30 If you have the cartridge in all the way and the cover bolt screwed on the cartridge then it should just be a matter of moving the top of cartridge around to get it to fit into the red plastic piece in the handle.
