Thanks for the video, and the Tuareg 450 really caught my attention. I’m a Tuareg 660 owner, having recently “downsized” from a VStrom 650. If they introduce a Tuareg 450 with the same features of the 660, tubeless tires, rider modes, cruise control, quick shifter, quality suspension, and keep wet weight under 400 lb, I would definitely consider downsizing again to a T450 a few years from now, having just turned 69 this year. Thanks for the look at what’s coming out!
I also have the T660, but I am afraid the T450 will have less power, but not so light that it will make a difference :( Think CFMoto 450MT, 44Hp, 190kg)
On the KTM 390 Adventure, I really appreciate having cruise control for the reasons that you mentioned. What I hope as well, is that the bike can have a set of optional heated grips too just as the 890's. I have ridden through freezing temps hour after hour, and having semi-warm hands makes a difference.
The KTM is way to tall for average sized off roader. The Aprilla is such a great bike. I just took the 660 put for test ride on saturday. Very impressed!
It's the same height as every other offroad bike. It might be a problem for the average street bike rider, but the average offroad rider will have no problem. Learn the techniques and you never have to obsess over seat height again.
@jakeviolet2195 yeah unless you're comparing it to an XR640R or a KTM 640 Adventure, they are all within an inch or two. But if you go from one extreme like the T7 to the other extreme like the new Transalp, it's pretty noticeable. But I agree with you in the fact that a skilled off road rider won't care as much about the difference. Also being tall helps 😄

Probably bcs I live in Medellin Colombia.Here you will be riding straght up or down and have a big slant to that hill at same time. So if you need to stop or inch along and switch to that foot the whole weight of bike will get momentum and go over. If generic dirt riding I may agree with you. But not in this situation. Also thinking of an Africa Twin bcs of the power and lower seat!
Cruise control is an absolute must have on an adventure bike. I can’t believe manufacturers are bringing out bikes without it. That underslung exhaust on the KTM is a bit of a fail though..
I like the low exhaust. It solves two of the main problems I have with most stock adv bike exhausts, which is that they are big, heavy, hot and ugly. And they are usually positioned in a way to interfere with/burn your soft saddlebags. Plus, how often do you do water crossings that go up higher than the skidplate? My experience is that those are few and far between. Most water crossings feel higher than they really are when riding through them. But they are usually less than a foot deep.
@@jakeviolet2195 I'm curious how hard a hit the skid plate can take without folding. If it can take solid repeated hits then this exhaust will be a winner for the soft luggage crowd.
That Aprilia may do a 450 has blown me out of the water! I was thinking about a CFMOTO MT next year but now I’m going to have to watch for this. If they can sell it for under $15000 I think I would be in.
I bought and picked mine up about a2 months ago. my bike was super twitchy. Even on tarmac when I went over cracks in road would reverberate to hands and that would translat into full body jerk. I wouldnt let my son drive it bcs just to dangerous.There is a guy on UA-cam who had smae problem w CFMoto Adventure 800 MT. He put a $35 part on it and got rid of it. But I had sold my bike by the time I read that. In the comment area a person said he did to his 450MT and it worked too. I think most dont have this problem. But you need to be aware of it.
Big weight saving over the CFMoto also, The CF Moto doesn't make sense having a small engine in a mid weight ADV, The Aprilia would get close to making sense.
I think the Aprilia is looking like a great contender. 47 hp is more than enough. If they can make it light and have a good fuel range which is so important for us Australian's. It will be awesome. Also liking the rally version of the himmy
Wow, preference is #1 Aprilia Tuareg 457 (weight?), #2 KTM 390 Adventure R (weight?) and #3 rumoured Suzuki DRZ 450 (weight?). As you can see, the weight is a HUGE factor for me in final decision.
I love the cruise control! What a great time to live in. I have been wishing for a cruise control on my RC390 from a long long time. TVS in India has already been offering cruise control on their motorcycles for a year or two now. KTM has done it better.
@@CosmicSeeker69 But that's not a cruise control system. It just an homemade improvisation which will fail especially on inclines, declines and emergencies your clip can be counterproductive. Here in KTM they have offered an electronic cruise control with speed adjustment on the fly which is in sync with all the other electronics. This is a safer system.
I was at our NZ motorcycle show a few weeks ago and there was a Himalayan Raid version on display that looked way tricker than the standard one, supposed to be out very soon.
Next year will be an interesting year: CFMoto450, Ktm390 adventure R, Aprilia Tuareg(?) 457. Wonder if japanese manufacturers will get into this market?
Japanese used to be the market leaders. Now they are always last in line. They have become the stagnant American and British bike industry they replaced.

Before them everything was getting bigger more powerful, heavier and way too expensive. Now the manufacturers have seen that a lot of us want a more realistic bike to take bush.
I know you didn’t ask me,but I would really doubt it! The Norden just doesn’t seem like a platform that lends itself to being downsized by that much. Maybe a 700…. Plus,from what I see,the Nordens aren’t even selling that well. My local dealer her in Pennsylvania has 5 of the Expedition models and a couple of the regular ones.
It’s not being asleep, they noticed they sell less of their bigger expensive bikes when they put desirable features in their smaller displacement bikes. A really good 450l rally would hurt the Transalp and Africa Twin sales. They can’t get 700cc + prices out of a 450cc no matter what goodies they put on it. It’s sad for consumers

I just wish these new bikes would be available to buy for the beginning of the new riding season next year! (Here in North America) Usually the new EICMA bikes aren’t available until way late in the year. I am so ready to upgrade from my 300L Rally! I’ve put over 10,000 miles on it,and it’s time to move on!
The Himalayan 450 Rally is already available in there test ride fleet. I rode one this past weekend. The only difference is handguards a one piece rally seat and one other thing ( I forgot what that was). The differences are only cosmetic.
The plastic rear fender/fairing thingie. Combined with a plastic Acerbis tank (which is development) and a plastic front fender (and ditch the heavy metal crash guards and center stand) it could be a pretty decent little offroader. Loses the hipster chique though.

Great to hear that manufacturers are slowly filling the void between the small 250-300cc dual-sport/ light weight ADV bikes and the 660+cc "middle weight" ADV bikes.... Really hope to see more 400-500cc options from more manufacturers Something like a new DRZ 400 or something lile CRF 500 or a Tenere 500 would be awesome. Under 200kg/440lbs with +/- 50hp.
Thirty years ago thé Honda AT 650 RD03 was 192kg, the Yamaha ST 750 195kg and the Cagiva Elefant 900 185kg. Bikes are getting portlier every year With New manufacturing technologue why cant we make lighter bikes?
Amazes me the Japanese motorcycle giants haven't caught on to the smaller displacement adventure bikes like other manufacturers have. Royal Enfields, even though heavy, offer great choices for adventure bikes at a great price.
I bought my '23 390 ADV factoring in after market cruise control in the purchase price and installed it myself within a week of ownership. I would not have bought it without this capacity, which it has due to fly by wire throttle. Its so good to have when touring - it holds 110km/hr up hill and down dale all day long fully loaded, as I have done today. Of more interest to me in the new model is the engine - I would not upgrade unless there was significantly more power on offer as I'm very happy with my bike as it is.
Got any info on the swm superdual? They pulled off the market the X version due to some euro5 requirement but kept the T version. And the difference of the bikes were 21/19 wheels on the X. Such a shame
When the RS 457 was announced, it had two other silhouettes shown in a promotional, one obviously a Tuareg. So perhaps this both inevitable and perhaps just needed the nudge the 450MT gave the segment.
No cornering ABS on the ”street” adventure does not really sense, except from a price point. And cruise control adding complexity that might break? All it requires is a multi position switch - the rest is software. So if the switch breaks - well go on riding, you just loose the cruise control. Where is the problem? Whats the source of this info?
Great video! Looking forward to EICMA. I'm glad to see the 450 enduro from Toureg. Hopefully that market is opening... very long overdue. I still wish BMW would make an upscale G310GS Adventure with tubeless spoke wheels, a 4+ gallon fuel tank, fully adjustable suspension and maybe a proper bash plate and engine protection.
The problem will always be the value...the current 390adv in Europe is 8K+ euros against the 6k for he Himi and Cf(thats more than 30%)...now we'll have to pay the new ktm RnD and all the extras they have to put just to compete in this segment, they'll never lower the price (probably rise) and then we'll be in 2nd hand low mileage 790/tuareg/t7 range...probably the same with a baby tuareg (but it does look good)
True. Since CFMOTO 450MT is already available with a good price, the KTM lost its competitive advantage by being late to the party, especially if it is going to be priced like gold, which it most definitely will be. CFMOTO is in a really good place right now.
The tuareg spy shots completely caught me off guard too, but it's super exciting, could potentially have the tuareg and KTM Adv launch around 3-4 months apart, hence opening up the market, what a time to be in for a small ADV that's offroad capable!
I was waiting for KTM to release the updated 390 and I held off buying the Himalayan 450. But damn 885mm. At 5'7, the current 390 is tall for me with its wide seat. 885mm seems like it'll be impossible for me. Of course we'll have to wait and watch.
Just saw the announcement from Moto Morini about the new "Alltrhike", silly name but interesting bike. It is a 450cc parallel twin with tubeless spoked wheels, 21" up front and a 170kg. claimed dry weight. Wonder if they are sharing same motor with the Ibex 450?
Not sure if other places on the planet are like Quebec Canada...but that KTM at 390cc means we fall into the lowest state insurance category. the savings are about $400 a year. I was looking at bikes in the 450 class but the new Suzuki drz or this KTM 390r having be reconsidering just for the additional savings.

I’m conflicted about cruise control on these smaller-displacement bikes. On one hand, I don’t think a bike this small would be used on major highways so much that cruise control would be necessary; however, with ride-by-wire throttle becoming so commonplace it’s also absurd bikes don’t come with cruise as standard. Personally, for a lot of the bikes in this category cruise control is not a serious consideration like it would be for bigger bikes.
Great to see new models but how about a 550cc single with no considerations for A2 restrictions with a focus on weight. 160kg shouldn't be too difficult with 20L onboard. Maybe Yamaha can do an Itchy Boots edition with a kick start and the fuel tank at shin height.
Suzuki we need a drz 450/500 dueal sport and rally v3rsion 6 speed trt display with fuel Guage 34 to 36 inch seat height 47 to 50 hp and 36to 46 ft lb torque please! I can't wait to see the improvements and new bikes coming!
On the surface the KTM’s look promising, the devil will be in the details, and will any of those high spec electronics be unlocked and available from the start. Disappointing about the 885mm seat height which will certainly be a no for me. There will also be a supermoto version available as well with 17” rims with what looks like the enduro r panels and seat. I’m excited about the Aprilia, doesn’t look like it’s quite production ready, which is a shame as I am thinking about a new bike within the next 6 months. The Himalayan Rally I don’t think will be a different model. I’ve seen bikes for sale in the UK, brand new, with the Rally side panels, seat, and a different exhaust, so I think it’s most likely going to be a kit that can be fitted to your existing Himalayan.
Aprillia have a disadvantage here in Australia lacking dealers. Nice looking bikes, and no doubt they ride well, but many brands have more dealers in one state than Aprilia do in the whole country.
Same problem in the USA , the clear downsides for my tuareg are dealer network and parts availability but in the two years I had mine the aftermarket has grown to almost mediocre.
The KTM looks excellent especially the lack of an enormous and vulnerable silencer that fouls/burns luggage. I have a 690 and 701 (long story) and love both. To me, weight is always the issue and KTM’s propensity to make enduro style riding positions which don’t suit adventure bike intentions. Why not develop this type of bike on the 690/701/700 platform? Too much better than the 890? The Aprilia is intriguing but weight will be the key for me.
Couldn't care less about cruise control I never use it in a car ..I want to know if the 390 has tubeless tyres...was really hoping Aprilia would make a toe rag they made the motor and it's a no brainer
KTM is gonna rock the small ADV and "true dualsport" market with the lineup of 390's. This will set the bar for these segments and hopefully spur some more competition.
The bear 650 is absolutely going to outsell every bike that's even anywhere similar.ar to it, if you thought the triumph 400x was selling fast watch this thing fly out the door...
I can't believe we're getting a 390 enduro r before a 690 rally. Are we ever going to get another 690 model? It's literally the perfect platform for so many great bikes that could be made.

I’m not impressed with an Aprilia 457 that weighs close to 400lbs. Might as well get a middle weight adv. Aprilia needs a competitor to the 690/701 with a rally tower.
I'm in the same boat with this. If it weights 400+, why not just jump to the Tuareg 660, Transalp, or T7. But if they can get it closer to 370 or less, I think they'd see some sales. Less than a Honda 500x, less than a CF Moto 450.
@@2006Whippet I think that really depends on the person. I'd happily pay for a bike with a better power-to-weight ratio, easier to maneuver in the tight stuff, and easier to get off the ground by myself if ever needed. But then there is clearly a large mass of people who will buy bikes like the Royal Enfield Himalayan, which is clearly overweight and underpowered... but at half the price of all the middle weight bikes out there.
On the bigger KTM's all the electronic extras cost , well extra. Don't like this concept. If they adopt the same principle on the 390 Adventure it could be more expensive than rivals.. Ride safe 👍

Why? If it fills with water in case of tipping over it's easier to empty it :D

I've got cruise on my 2006 Honda 125. It clips on the throttle and rests against the brake lever - so I can ride no hands...

I bought my '23 390 ADV factoring in after market cruise control in the purchase price and installed it myself within a week of ownership. I would not have bought it without this capacity, which it has due to fly by wire throttle. Its so good to have when touring - it holds 110km/hr up hill and down dale all day long fully loaded, as I have done today. Of more interest to me in the new model is the engine - I would not upgrade unless there was significantly more power on offer as I'm very happy with my bike as it is.

Got any info on the swm superdual? They pulled off the market the X version due to some euro5 requirement but kept the T version. And the difference of the bikes were 21/19 wheels on the X. Such a shame

When the RS 457 was announced, it had two other silhouettes shown in a promotional, one obviously a Tuareg. So perhaps this both inevitable and perhaps just needed the nudge the 450MT gave the segment.
No cornering ABS on the ”street” adventure does not really sense, except from a price point.
And cruise control adding complexity that might break? All it requires is a multi position switch - the rest is software. So if the switch breaks - well go on riding, you just loose the cruise control. Where is the problem?

Great video! Looking forward to EICMA. I'm glad to see the 450 enduro from Toureg. Hopefully that market is opening... very long overdue. I still wish BMW would make an upscale G310GS Adventure with tubeless spoke wheels, a 4+ gallon fuel tank, fully adjustable suspension and maybe a proper bash plate and engine protection.
The new KTM 390 looks amazing, but that low-slung exhaust might be a deal breaker…

The problem will always be the value...the current 390adv in Europe is 8K+ euros against the 6k for he Himi and Cf(thats more than 30%)...now we'll have to pay the new ktm RnD and all the extras they have to put just to compete in this segment, they'll never lower the price (probably rise) and then we'll be in 2nd hand low mileage 790/tuareg/t7 range...probably the same with a baby tuareg (but it does look good)
True. Since CFMOTO 450MT is already available with a good price, the KTM lost its competitive advantage by being late to the party, especially if it is going to be priced like gold, which it most definitely will be. CFMOTO is in a really good place right now.
Also I don't think the bigger ktms advs have had tubeless spoked rims. Don't see the 390 getting it. So more expensive with tubed type setup.

The tuareg spy shots completely caught me off guard too, but it's super exciting, could potentially have the tuareg and KTM Adv launch around 3-4 months apart, hence opening up the market, what a time to be in for a small ADV that's offroad capable!
it will be very interesting to see how much weight they can shave from the Tuareg 660 to the 457.
The 390 and apilia are very interesting. Its only a matter of time b3fore some similar japanese bikes come out which is what I am excited about.
I was waiting for KTM to release the updated 390 and I held off buying the Himalayan 450. But damn 885mm. At 5'7, the current 390 is tall for me with its wide seat. 885mm seems like it'll be impossible for me.

Just saw the announcement from Moto Morini about the new "Alltrhike", silly name but interesting bike. It is a 450cc parallel twin with tubeless spoked wheels, 21" up front and a 170kg. claimed dry weight. Wonder if they are sharing same motor with the Ibex 450?

Not sure if other places on the planet are like Quebec Canada...but that KTM at 390cc means we fall into the lowest state insurance category. the savings are about $400 a year. I was looking at bikes in the 450 class but the new Suzuki drz or this KTM 390r having be reconsidering just for the additional savings.
These mid-size adv bikes are all going to do really well I think.
Let's call them "A2 licence" instead of "lightweight".

I’m conflicted about cruise control on these smaller-displacement bikes. On one hand, I don’t think a bike this small would be used on major highways so much that cruise control would be necessary; however, with ride-by-wire throttle becoming so commonplace it’s also absurd bikes don’t come with cruise as standard. Personally, for a lot of the bikes in this category cruise control is not a serious consideration like it would be for bigger bikes.
I guess the CF Moto 450 MT will have more rivals now. I'm really looking for thatTouareg 475.

Great to see new models but how about a 550cc single with no considerations for A2 restrictions with a focus on weight. 160kg shouldn't be too difficult with 20L onboard. Maybe Yamaha can do an Itchy Boots edition with a kick start and the fuel tank at shin height.

The 390 ADVR and Enduro sound great, though I wish KTM based their small bike line on 490 rather than 390.
Suzuki we need a drz 450/500 dueal sport and rally v3rsion 6 speed trt display with fuel Guage 34 to 36 inch seat height 47 to 50 hp and 36to 46 ft lb torque please! I can't wait to see the improvements and new bikes coming!
On the surface the KTM’s look promising, the devil will be in the details, and will any of those high spec electronics be unlocked and available from the start. Disappointing about the 885mm seat height which will certainly be a no for me. There will also be a supermoto version available as well with 17” rims with what looks like the enduro r panels and seat. I’m excited about the Aprilia, doesn’t look like it’s quite production ready, which is a shame as I am thinking about a new bike within the next 6 months. The Himalayan Rally I don’t think will be a different model. I’ve seen bikes for sale in the UK, brand new, with the Rally side panels, seat, and a different exhaust, so I think it’s most likely going to be a kit that can be fitted to your existing Himalayan.
Aprillia have a disadvantage here in Australia lacking dealers.
Nice looking bikes, and no doubt they ride well, but many brands have more dealers in one state than Aprilia do in the whole country.
Same problem in the USA , the clear downsides for my tuareg are dealer network and parts availability but in the two years I had mine the aftermarket has grown to almost mediocre.
The KTM looks excellent especially the lack of an enormous and vulnerable silencer that fouls/burns luggage. I have a 690 and 701 (long story) and love both. To me, weight is always the issue and KTM’s propensity to make enduro style riding positions which don’t suit adventure bike intentions. Why not develop this type of bike on the 690/701/700 platform? Too much better than the 890? The Aprilia is intriguing but weight will be the key for me.
Scrambler 650 looks okay but personally I'd have liked something a bit more off-road capable
cfmoto released the 450mt and a couple months later every company is releasing a 35kw rally/adv bike after seeing it dominate the market

Couldn't care less about cruise control I never use it in a car ..I want to know if the 390 has tubeless tyres...was really hoping Aprilia would make a toe rag they made the motor and it's a no brainer
Im more interested in what will come of the spy shots of the 990 Rally and 1390 Rally which seem to come at the same time as the spy shots of the 390.
We don't need cruise control, ride modes or any of that other BS.
We just need a smaller capacity ADV bike.

KTM is gonna rock the small ADV and "true dualsport" market with the lineup of 390's. This will set the bar for these segments and hopefully spur some more competition.

A production Tuareg 457 with actual rally tanks would be the bees knees. 390 ADV R Looks nice but I wish it had rally tanks.

I can't believe we're getting a 390 enduro r before a 690 rally. Are we ever going to get another 690 model? It's literally the perfect platform for so many great bikes that could be made.

That would require changes to engineering and manufacturing, as well as more testing for emissions and noise regulations. Unlikely, IMO.

I’m not impressed with an Aprilia 457 that weighs close to 400lbs. Might as well get a middle weight adv. Aprilia needs a competitor to the 690/701 with a rally tower.
I'm in the same boat with this. If it weights 400+, why not just jump to the Tuareg 660, Transalp, or T7. But if they can get it closer to 370 or less, I think they'd see some sales. Less than a Honda 500x, less than a CF Moto 450.
I think weight is less of a concern than price.
@@2006Whippet I think that really depends on the person. I'd happily pay for a bike with a better power-to-weight ratio, easier to maneuver in the tight stuff, and easier to get off the ground by myself if ever needed. But then there is clearly a large mass of people who will buy bikes like the Royal Enfield Himalayan, which is clearly overweight and underpowered... but at half the price of all the middle weight bikes out there.
On the bigger KTM's all the electronic extras cost , well extra. Don't like this concept.
If they adopt the same principle on the 390 Adventure it could be more expensive than rivals..
