Wow. There's a reason Gang of Youths is my favorite band. Their music is so real and raw and beautiful and always so poignant. And always so musically and lyrically compelling and intriguing. It just pulls you right in and you get lost within the music. It's honestly magical

This song now holds such a strong effect on me. After losing my dad and grandfather a day apart from each other, I haven't been able to not think about them or be reminded of them in one way or another. Love you dad, love you papa. I won't ever forget the ways you've shaped me to be a better man.
I lost my mum last year and heart is a muscle was one of her funeral song choices. I cared for her during her battle with lung cancer and held her while she passed, the first thing i did was have a cigarette and cry with my sister. And almost a year later this hits so damn hard now its beautiful but painful. R.I.P Donna
I found gang of youths this year and most of them music hits me like spending most of my 20s doing self indulged bullshit on repeat I love them

I lost my grandmother last year, and for a week after her death, I would go to her room, open her closet, put my head on her clothes and just cry while breathing her in. This song reminded me of that moment.

Coming up to the one year anniversary of my incredible mum passing away completely out of the blue under pretty traumatic circumstances. This is such a cathartic album, beautifully and painfully painting that grief journey that we’ll all know at some time in our life.

This song hits me. Every raw emotion digs it’s way into my soul, to the point that I forget to breathe halfway through it. You have conveyed the moment of a loved ones passing to the very bone. With this song I am there, yet at the same time I am healing. It makes me feel as if I’m not alone, like there is a life that can coincide with my own, if only briefly. This song is a hymn to all who know true grief. Thank you. With all my heart, thank you.

I lost my father in 2014. It’s been years now, and life goes on, but there’s always a sense of irreparable loss when one of the people who loved you more purely and deeply than anyone else ever can dies. Just now, I was hearing this song for the first time, nodding along and enjoying it, and then the realization of what it was about came out over me.
I love music but find it just a little too romantic to say music can heal you. This song didn’t heal the remaining grief I have, because nothing ever truly can. But it helped. It helped a lot, to listen to this powerful song and feel it and feel understood. That’s the power and artistry of great music. Thank you, Gang of Youths. You gave me the Christmas present of a little more peace and happiness, and i’m grateful for that.

My father who was born in Burma passed in 1999. He moved to the US in the early 60s. This album/song has been helping me with the grief from that great loss. THANK YOU❤️🔥

So beautiful. I broke down when I read these lyrics, and held my husband’s hand when we lost his dad. My dad. He was an amazing father in law, an incredible person. Miss him so much and my heart is broken for my husband. 💔

I'd largely ignored Gang Of Youths until recently for reasons unknown... maybe the right time and place to meet their music properly hadn't happened. This new album randomly appeared as a recommendation on Spotify and I gave it a shot. As an opening track, this presents me as a listener no option but to keep listening further.... the sombre poetry of the lyrics instantly stays in your mind, the music is appropriate accompaniment while being outwardly catchy. An amazing song, really.
I'm a big fan... and I somehow can't get past the first song... this band means so much and listening to the rest will be approached with cautious-optimism.. not one bad song from their releases the last year

Hits harm my abuela passed in April and after I got the knees I prayed it was some kind of sick joke. But of course it wasn’t. Cried the whole time driving to her home to kiss her head in her bed where she was laying. Thinking of all the times I had sat there with her.
I took the two pillows she passed on and drink in her scent so often.
I consider where you walked to be holy land.
I really do where she has been is where she is. At her viewing I kissed her head and hands for the last time the hands that had once held me when I cried or greeted her. Then at the burial the print of my lips remain on the head of her casket.
I do still need her in everything how do I go on when her the love of my life my rock my soulmate is gone? I still do see her in everything, and I need her still. But I understand that I can’t have her.
