    Dasaita makes some great Android head units with options for vehicle specific trim and acceptable if not beefy processing power and RAM. They also have pre-programmed CAM-bus for steering wheel controls and vehicle specific harnesses. Plus a whole lot more. I've had a nothing but positive experience with mine.

      This one had a CAN-bus app, I think their higher-end models have more processing power and CAN-bus functionality. But this is their entry-level model and it''s just not a good product.

      Brands like Dasaita, Joying, etc may honestly advertise specs, have better customer support, and better software, but they all have crappy build quality. Even the best Chinese Android Head units lack the build quality of even the entry level models of manufacturers like JVC, Sony, Alpine, Kenwood, etc. I've owned several Android HUs and they all had hardware failures after a year or two.

      @@conchobar I've had a Joying in my truck for 3 years and nothing but good things. I'll praise Joying, Dasaita, and Seicane constantly. They have a way better build quality than the 3rd party companies who make these head units. I'd take an Android radio over any of the big box name radios anyday. It's all about using the good company with good spec radios.

    The ISO harness is a Blaupunkt connector (Audi uses this). ISO is Industrial standard, Not American standard. The power antenna only powers when on AM/FM (Audi uses this as well) while the amp turn on, turns on with the deck (this common on a lot of decks, ANT being solid blue and REM being blue/white). The EQ should play across all audio the same. This is a 1gig unit and its recommended to download offline maps. I ran one for 4 years, used a line driver and amped all speakers and it stood up to 145db daily. Currently I am running a 9" 2 gig version that's much faster however I will be going with a 4gig soon. DSP and interior amp again, we will see how well it holds to a 150+. Not the greatest deck but for $130 that I paid for my 2g 9" version I will take over those sub $1000 units as I have installed a few and not impressed. I can buy the head unit, audison DSP, 4 channel amp for less and get much more.

      Thanks for the info! I did some googling and apparently Freightliner, Audi, Volkswagen, and several others used the ISO connector. I could not find any information on how these things were pinned though. For the pictures I found online they were all pinned differently. Glad to hear that you found a version that would work for you.

      @@DIYAudioGuy Hyundai/kia also uses this connector, and they go one quirk better, they flip the yellow and red, red being constant hot and yellow being switched, had me stumped for a bit on that one. @@charleswp71 what's the point of having a standard size connector if every OEM uses a different pin arrangement?

    • @Kommunisator
      @Kommunisator 2 роки тому

      @@DIYAudioGuy The form of the connector ist standardized. The Pinout is too - it is actually VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) that started the "let's switch the power pins" stuff. A lot of people burned out their ignition key contacts when the radio was pulling its current through that contact ^^
      (Blaupunkt was delivering the radios for them, iirc, so maybe it also was a Blaupunkt thing. Lots of japanese manufacturers, JVC and Clarion p.ex, had connectors in their iso harness so you could swap yellow/red without using tools).
      But the pinout for the speakers and most other things is standardized. It is more about the form of the connectors, similar to the OBD2 connector: Form = standard, protocol = individual to the manufacturer. Apart from emissions relevant stuff.
      The upside is: If you have an iso connector in your old car you can take out the head unit and put it in your next without a problem.

    Sound is great and perfectly integrates with the stock JBL Synthesis 10 speaker surround in my 2006 Toyota. I still have steering wheel controls and I managed to get Android Auto working, of course with the help of some accessories especially to keep the phone charged like a usb hub and a carlinkit. I believe most depends on the android head unit brand you buy and the price range in which it fits. A good rule in my opinion is to look at a 250/300$ budget to get a decent android head unit. Basically you get what you pay for, and the head unit in this video is one of the cheapest on the market for less than 70$.

    ISO connections are standard in most of Europe and various other countries around the world. Every brand of aftermarket head unit, big branded and Chinese, all have an ISO connector when you buy them here. You then buy looms which include a CANbus decoder that go between the factory connector in any car with ISO plugs on the other side. That makes it a very, very simple plug and play situation to install ANY head unit. Why most of the USA is still splicing individual wires is completely beyond me

    Sort of like buying the cheapest 10 year old specked Windows computer hardware and be surprised it runs slow with all Windows 11 O/S and products along not very capable with newer web sites that have high resolution advertisements, newer games studder and have to be played at lower resolutions and wonder why it takes so long to accomplish anything.
    I did try a sub $200 low resolution Android head unit 5 years ago it worked better than expected with an added Amp for the first few years, plus it integrated with a recording dash cam, a backup camera, phone connectivity for navigation and hands free, and provided 0DB2 on screen diagnostics where I could put up extra instruments that my instrument panel didn't have - none of that stuff was available on that 12 year old car model when it came out. Though the screen was 10 inches it was too low of resolution. It too had those thin conductor wires which after opening it up and adding things to it over the years caused failures simply because the wire harnesses wouldn't hold up to being unplugged and plugged back in too many times though it still functions in that old car I had to combine two of the 5 channels because the work the redo the harness with those thin wires is not worth my time and it's an old car I'm getting rid of.
    Just like buying any electronics you can't go cheapy cheap because you get what you pay for or in your case what you don't. I just installed a $400 8 core Android Head Unit with 8 Gb of Ram and 128 Rom and it works fine while the plugs and wire conductors are as good or better than anything on the market, but even then you still have to customize it with the apps you prefer.
    Best of all though the better units support both CarPlay and Android Auto both wired and wireless - thus in time when the head unit becomes more obsolete you can just rely on your solid Android or iPhone connection since on average we replace them every 3 years. My unit even comes with a SIM adapter so if I wanted to add a $10 line and sim card to my phone account I wouldn't even have to rely on using my phone to tether for an Internet connection.
    Yes new car head units include nearly the same connectivity, but not everyone is buying new cars and my 7 year old car stereo did support CarPlay but not Android Auto for my Sony Xperia phone and the car models two years newer (2019 models and newer) only supported USB wired Android Auto not wireless.
    I considered JVC and other name brand head units and discovered to get an equivalent size and resolution screen name brand JVC unit is about 1k plus another several hundred for install kits, Can bus adapters for steering wheel controls and other proper harnesses, so that's $1500 plus tax before you even consider an Amp and speakers.
    If you have the money and no programing skills go with traditional name brands but know the entry point is going to be 1k + for the same end results. Know that there are decent Android Head Units, but to make the interface as satisfactory you will have to put in the time to customize their programming but they are actually easier and less expensive to install for the same or better end product.

    This is why I don't like Android. (Used it all my life so I'm all too familiar with crap Android experience)
    When done right though they are amazing. But all too often they are just junk. And I feel like most Android head units fall in the junk category. (I hope I don't trigger someone by saying this, I didn't say they ALL are)

    • @Carl_Jr
      @Carl_Jr 2 роки тому

      I don't know that Android would have actually been the problem. One of the reasons a lot of these cheaper manufacturers use Android is because they don't have to pay royalties like they would if they were to use any type of iOS. To the root of its core Android is still open source. If they actually had to pay Apple to use iOS the point of making a cheap head unit would be null and void. Plus, let's add the fact that Apple accounts for approximately 20% of the cell phone market meaning 80% of the people that buy this are going to be Android users.

    • @JoshM7
      @JoshM7 2 роки тому

      @@Carl_Jr That's exactly the thing. The fact that they cheap out that much and make an unusable user experience is why I'm tired of Android and don't like it anymore.
      All too often with Android there's always somewhere they cheaped out on. Don't get me wrong I'm not mindlessly bashing on Android. This comes from using Android for 10+ years. Only recently have I switched to Apple and I wasn't saying anything about Apple in my main post. Apple has its fair share of issues that makes them just as bad as Android in some areas.
      I'm not trying to mindlessly fanboy about a single OS. We're talking about a head unit here so iOS isn't really related as there's no head unit running an Apple OS.

      First of all, as an employee of ESSGOO, he did not introduce you clearly to the product, which caused you to have a bad experience and spread it, and did not answer your doubts in time. This is unacceptable, so follow-up is required.
      Second, the good products you mentioned have positioned. . I know that a $3,000 Apple phone is better than a $2,000 Android phone, but this does not mean that a $2,000 Android phone is a bad product. On the contrary, many people choose a $2,000 phone for various reasons. Your video also mentions the price of our products. If you compare other car stereos with more than $300, our products do have shortcomings.

      Fourth, this is a general-purpose device that can adapt to most models, and it is an Android system. It can download many apps, including music/sound effects/control panel; even the desktop/theme can be replaced, and there are many functions (this is also The negligence of the contact person, did not introduce clearly)
