Thanks for watching. This Makita blower was a gift, however I'm beginning to have regrets about having an uncommon blower and the reason is the price of parts.

I lost a tiny carb part once in my lawn, and I saw the part in flight, so I had a reasonable idea of where it landed. No luck finding it visually, so I emptied my Shop Vac's canister and vacuumed that area of the lawn. I then emptied the canister onto a newspaper on my workbench, where I had better light and more patience, and sure enough, there was that little component.

I have learned the hard way that working on things with small parts in the grass has proven to be a really bad idea. To find the spring, I would suggest getting a large, very strong magnet and moving it all around the area. The magnet might find it even though you can’t see it.

That's what I was thinking, get a big strong neodymium magnet or anything like that, a good example is use a flywheel magnet from a small engine, like a lawnmower or Briggs and Stratton engine
Ugh nothing ruins a work day more for me dropping something on the floor and not being able to find it again
I actually put small carbs in a large zip-loc bag to disassemble and it always catches the small stuff as I'm disassembling. It's a bit awkward at first but once you're used to it, it's a good system i find.
In my opinion I wouldn't buy a 4 stroke blower, weedwacker, or edger because you have to change the oil and I find it easier just to mix gas and oil

Weight is an issue, too. 4 stroke engines weigh twice as much for the same power.

to be honest, it's not that heavy, ~12 lbs.
My Dad has Bought two of this exact blower. They are in my opinion one of the best 4 stroke blowers on the market. They are easy to start and run forever! The first one we have has a TON of hours on it. other than new fuel lines it still run strong! Thanks for the videos.

This is definitely the best little leaf blower on the market ,I’m on my second one ,the first one lasted 5 years.I’m a gardener and use it a lot it gets a hard life.. credit where it’s due !

I have the Dolmar version of this blower before they changed the name to Makita. It is at least 7 years old and still runs great. If they would have just taken care of it it lasts forever. My Dad bought the same Dolmar blower and it still runs great too. Great motor like a Honda mini 4 stroke. Mine was made in Japan the new ones are made in China and probably not as good.

I've got a 3 inch magnet on a stick for just such predicaments. It's saved me a bunch of times as long as what I was hunting was steel. And I got an adjustable carb oiff a marine engine off Ebay to take the place of that wretched, lean jetted thing the opposed came with and have NEVER regretted it. So it's the end results we all look at and waggle our heads about. Thanks and BLESSINGS!

Out of curiosity, I did a bit of research after seeing "Fuji Robin" on the engine sticker. Evidently, Makita didn't make this unit's engine but procured it (2006?) from what was then Fuji Industries, a maker of industrial engines/products including Robin small engines. Moreover, Fuji also owned Subaru & later renamed the co. to Subaru. In '17, Subaru exited the small engine (excellent engines, BTW) business probably because the segment is so competitive. Thus, given the Makita/Subaru lineage, I would say that you have a potential gem of a leaf blower there.

Got a magnet? If like me and you always drop things a large magnet at the end of a stick works well to find stuff in grass or the ground in general. Also last month I was servicing a plastic carb off a new style briggs and when I popped out the tiny ball bearing it shot out and onto the ground. Spent a week on an off trying to find it and gave up but today a month later while I was working on another mower I spotted it sitting in the corner......Happy and annoyed at the same time lol. At least I can put that carb back together now for a spare.

Very interesting about the starter assembly. I have this blower's cousin (BHX2500CA) which I use pretty much every weekend in the Summer and Fall. Never any issues the 6 years since I bought it other than oil changes. However, about two years ago, I did take the carb apart and threw all the parts in an ultrasonic parts cleaner out of guilt of having paid it no real maintenance. That tiny spring wanted to surprise me too but I was able to take the carb apart slowly so no issues there. If a magnet didn't pick your lost spring, I'd say "spring" the $80 for a new carb and expect to get a great performance blower for years to come.

Hi mate. This is the exact blower I repaired about 3 weeks ago. I bought a $20 Chinese carb on ebay which came with new fuel lines. The new carb is also adjustable - original is not. The new carb does not have the same torque as the original (i.e. new has less torque) but it still works fine. I eagerly wait your next video to see how you went with things on this blower.

What i do when I lose a tiny metal part like that is I get my magnet on a long piece of wire and I wave it around on the grass like a metal detector. Since I have a strong magnet it is often successful.

Definitely better for your sanity to just order the new aftermarket carb. However, I tend to be a bit OCD and would probably spend the time looking for it with maybe a 20% chance of finding it no make that 2% chance based on the size and where you lost it, but I'd still probably do it and end up ordering the part anyways LOL good on you for being smart and ordering the part straight away

A tip from a outdoor mechanic: Buy yourself a big strong magnet. Swiping that through gravel and grass has saved me both money and frustration.

I have worked on one of those, another theory for the recoil would be that it is a 4 stroke with a oil crankcase and the way you put it away to stored it is important because the oil could go into the cylinder and hydro lock it . I have some advice , when you get the new carb . Be really careful not to over tight the screw on the choke mechanism . There is a little washer that can be easily destroyed and then your choke will not work anymore , (meaning it will not move and could break the plastic gears)As always great video.

I would have definitely spent some time looking for that spring. Robins- Subaru makes great engines but that recoil doesn't look very robust. The recoil is definitely a weak point on the TB fourstroke as well.

I have the exact same blower it runs really well and hardly ever needs any repairs or maintenance but I still do the maintenance on it just to keep it running smoothly now just be aware that the small white choke flap and red lever in the air cleaner do fail at times as the cogs do break and cause the machine to randomly choke itself as I have a Makita ebh252l which is a 4stroke weed eater/brush cutter which has the same type of air cleaner as the blower as for issues with recoil I have had none at all but it will and can happen at any time only issue im having is a greasy oily bulid up around the exhaust and on the plastic housing which im am thinking is caused by a blown gasket but it's hard to tell as everything seems to be ok including the gaskets unless it's something small which I can't pick up but it's still working which is the main thing

Strong machine but a bit heavy, just replaced a carb on one of those, was well neglected and have to do some customization on the filter housing. Oh and the spark plugs are a little expensive.

Try a magnet to grab the spring. I use a 6 by 9 20 ounce speaker magnet to run over the grass with. Good luck!

I try not to work on grass because I know what I will do. I also use a powerful magnet to try and locate lost parts. Looking for the next video.
I would also work in the garage, however, I don't like the lighting when it comes to video.
Sometimes it is better for your blood pressure to just replace the carb.

When taking apart small objects with little internal parts do it inside a large Ziploc bag that way if anything flies out it will be captured by the bag

Get yourself a shop magnet there about a foot wide and come on a stick like a brook. I've used it to fing many small things that I dropped.

It would have been best if you instantly went to around where the spring landed and started combing through the grass. Usually you can find the tiny metal part within an hour. If it's still missing, then go ahead and order a new carb. The carb is indeed too expensive as oem, but it is possible to find a carb of the same pattern. All those small form factor carbs look the same, including that one, so it's possible you can get non oem oem carbs

yes it works great on saws, it's a degreaser from harbor freight.
At 8:26....looking up on the blower there's bubbles coming out after you started it, is that the degreaser that you sprayed on earlier?
ahh.. you noticed! yes that's the remnants of the degreaser making a bubble
You could try using a magnet to try to find the spring.

If you have a small kids metal detector, you will be able to hopefully find it easier. Depending how far it flew, you probably won't be able to find it. It's easier just to order the new carb.

I would look within the vicinity of where the spring flew off before ordering another carburetor or see if Makita would sell the spring separately,I saved over $30 AUD when I lost the needle out of my dads Honda GSV190 engines carburetor by looking for it in daylight so I had to cancel that order with the mower Shop,an aftermarket GSV190 carburetor isn't available so OEM is the way to go with them & I don't know if a GXV160 (160cc) carburetor will work on a 186cc engine.
Makita parts are expensive (same with Bosch, Hitachi,etc) even in the power tool repair industry because the manufacturer places a huge markup on the parts,we did not service any Makita petroleum powered lawn equipment in Australia where the Makita brand was sold under the Dolmar name,they did their own repairs in house rather than outsourcing the work to a service agent such as I did my apprenticeship with !

the engine would have to be sized the same, and if the linkage works, sure why not.

They are cool but I’m not a fan because of using valves a timing belt camshaft and it’s over complicated to me the stihl back pack blowers are a hybrid In a sense they run off 2 stroke gas but still have timing belt and stuff I don’t like the cheap 2 and 4 stroke stuff so a good quality 2 and four stroke is good
just to let you ,now this is built a lot like a stihl 4 mix, with a single cam, no timing belt.
i would just replace the recoil with a nut and washers just to start it with a drill.

I have got a mcculloch maccat 2.3ci 28cc chainsaw from the 90s the person who gave it to me didn't use it for a year and now there is a milky white emulsion comming from the exsauhst probably oil and on the compression stroke it is impossible to turn it over but without the wet sparkplug you can turn it over it is a 2 stroke what do I do?
take the muffler off, and look at the side and top of the piston, the let whatever side the engine, come out for a day then try pulling the rope.

if there's carbon in the port, the top of the piston is caked as well, which will increase your compression and make it tough to turn over.

I've had 2 of these. The 1st one I had was replaced under warranty for not starting. Now my current 1 is not starting, won't start by putting fuel down carry manually either. Any ideas?
have you done a compression test and also when was the last time you checked the oil level?
Oils good, spark is good. Don't have compression tester unfortunately

If I like a liece of equiptment and intend to keep it, I will spend MORE than it's worth.
Why?
A newer model is even MORE expensive
A newer model is likely to be less well made.
Plus, as time goes on having a working example gets more and more valuable. Folks get attached to their OPE and when they finally kill a loved tool, often want to replace it with a familiar item. Having a working one to sell lets them keep theirs for parts and start a new lease on life.
Unless a motor is grenaded... fix it. Especially with high-value items like gucci blowers and pro model saws. And if you dont want to fix it do the world a favor and part it out so that someone else's can return to service

Can’t the parts rust when you spray the engine with water?
the engine is aluminum with a few coated or painted steel parts. The chance is there but it doesn't happen all to often

Is it normal to have a bitterness towards diaphragm carbs? Is it just me?
diaphragm carbs served a few purpose and in most cases it's a "size" issue. A bowl carb, would not work for a blower, because of size and orientation limits.
Sound like having oil in it at all times may cause it to have a oil leak that’s just me cause it ain’t 2 stroke seems more simple

that recoil is a waste of good money since its way different from other massive companies. and the fail is that its no metal its plastic crap part that is just a sign that the recoil will fail again.

i dont like 4 strokes small engine because they been majority of failures cycling wall and pistons rings and it still have oils in pan i dont get it
one reason someone come around used pre mixed fuel in 4 strokes to make them last longer which it good n i see mix fuel in that blower which mean it good thing
i would never run straight gas in tiny engine that doesnt have 3rd ring which hold oils in ring keep pistons from not digging into cycling wall plus it keep wall lubed
if i were you I would stick to 2 strokes more lasting long time or used pre mix fuel in 4 strokes tiny engine
they have a place in the market otherwise they wouldn't keep selling them, but yes lots of people don't like them
i just hate to see them keep coming in my shop everyday and every time i do pressure test it show 5psi and customer didnt want paid $700 just rebuild it so they went on bought new 2 strokes
all 4 strokes that was left in my shop have to be drained out oils and take aparts for recycle which it was big mess for me hope you see more inform and be safe

no, they do not last long and tax the batteries,, yes the multiple batteries you're going to need to do a leave job.
These arent a terribly uncommon blower, Robin made them originally, then Makita took them over and ruined them!
this is the first one I've ever seen, they still make them, but no one buys them and that makes them uncommon.
I could see why people would buy a 4 stroke because people would just have one gas can for their outdoor power equipment
