Yes, in the commercials Worf implies he is no longer always looking for a fight. I think it is a cover. After the events of DS9 and "Nemesis", Worf was recruited into Starfleet Intelligence, and maybe even Section 31.
Thats a really good point. That could also explain why hes dressed all in black (mostly). And also why the last mission of the Ent-E was completely classified.
This season is already far better than the previous 2. The music and style is star trek perfection. I really hope they pass the baton to the new generation.
The written music notes featured in the end credits are the song "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" picard sings the melody in Insurrection when he and worf are trying to capture Data ... "Come out, come out where ever you are..."
it's actually Pop Goes the Weasel -- mulberry bush has some similarities but doesn't match the notes onscreen. And Pop is what Data was trying to whistle -- he kept cacking out on the "POP" high note.
@@heatherfyffe3618 they are the same song. “All around the Mulberry Bush, The monkey chased the weasel. The monkey stopped to pull up his sock, Pop! goes the weasel.”
Thank you for catching all the Wrath of Khan references (especially the James Horner feel in the score). One other thing I noticed is that Patrick Stewart would have been 47 at the beginning of TNG in 1987, so I wonder if that’s why 4 and 7 are in the password. I’m also loving that Amanda Plummer is the big bad since her father played the villain in VI. Love your videos - keep ‘me coming!
Fantastic breakdown, as always. Thank you! I think Picard's (or really any high-ranking Starfleet officer's) passcode isn't as important as their voiceprint. It's similar to 2FA. In the past, someone like Data can perfectly mimic someone's voiceprint, but without the passcode, they wouldn't have full access.
Picard did not confuse DS4 and DS11, he was just out of the loop DS4 had been shut down, not being an active admiral and all. Seven covers for him knowing something is up and this "surprise inspection" is likely not sanctioned.
Whenever I hear that Ink Spots song, I always get images of the intro from Fallout 3 in my head... Yeah, I used to play it a lot back in '08-'09. - Funny as hell, for a game set in a post Nuclear-Armageddon world... in a sort of ironic/morbid kind of way. We all know that Annika was no. 7 "of 9" - But, be Ernest now... ever wondered who Borg9 was? 🤣
The Elios alarm at the very beginning, “Warning. Security Breach. Hull damage” is the alarm from TMP Epsilon 9 station when it confronts V’ger. “We are under attack.”
I am and old very old Star Trek fan and I am really loving the new flavor they are using for this show. Sort of hard core like Andor. Familiar but different. What a nice breath of fresh air for this franchise. 😁
There are other references to Star Trek Online as well. The museum has a Pioneer class ship and the Voyager-B looks a lot like the Bellerophon class. Also the nacelles on the Titan look like the nacelles from several Star Trek Online vessels
What a wild ride for the first episode of season 3. So many easter eggs. Hell the credits alone, between the First Contact music into the TNG Theme, plus all the secrets in the background. I'm excited to see how things go from here. Also, I love and hate Capt. Shaw at the same time. Plus a number of additional ships from Star Trek Online are now canon.
I didn't see it mentioned, but the Red Alert Klaxon on the Eleos is the same Red Alert Klaxon as heard on the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Motion Picture Oh and that phaser rifle Dr. Crusher had, was not one we've seen before, it was a Pump Action Phaser Shotgun, though it is styled in a similar fashion
Did you catch the reference to Star Trek 3 in the bar where McCoy is charting passage to Genesis? This is where Picard meets Riker in a bar, and as they leave, a person over hears them.
You do such a great job! I got hooked watching marvels stuff but my love of star trek will always be number one. The marvel content I love because I get educated on parts I'm learning about because I have limited knowledge. Star trek well... I caught most Easter eggs because of my Fandom... however you get so much props from me because you caught a handful of things I didn't notice or would not have even made the connection for. The ship in a bottle!!! Like man you got it! I thought I was clever with the realization of the relic on his desk from the episode the chase. I'll be following you way more closely than I ever did before.
Am I the only one that thinks the aggressor aliens at the beginning are the silicon-based “clickers” from TNG “Schisms”? (The one’s kidnapping crew and experimenting on them) The robes look the same, they made similar clicking noises, the “masks” they wearing could be for life support in human atmosphere…ships also insect-like as they seem to be based on. We been hearing for months this show was revisiting an enemy from the past, and that was a very left-open storyline…. that’s one of my theories
Nope. I actually think they're the parasitic aliens from Season 1, Episode 25, Conspiracy. It was said by Data that they may return someday and, in the episode, The guy at the end (avoiding spoilers), stated 'they wore different faces' along with Beverly warning them not to trust Starfleet, whom those aliens infiltrated in TNG. I'm wondering if this is a 25 year-in-the-making callback.
I agree that they do sound like them, but if they were going to pick up an unanswered thread, why not go with the parasites. The aliens from Schisms were never clearly defined as malevolent. The parasites definitely were.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the last trailer for Picard. Then I saw Rachel Garrett in red and had to stink. What does she have to do with the conspiracy theory? They wouldn’t show that for nothing either. Maybe it’s a combination of several threats. My first theory was it was the marquee coming back for retribution against Starfleet. Because in that series, you had several Starfleet officers side with the marquee in the DMZ zone. Now look at me. Now I’m having coming up with theories like Alex Jones is. Ha ha. But I love everybody’s theories and I hope they all come true. In a twisted way. I hope they all come true because they all make sense. Every theory I’ve heard of red makes sense.
We dissected the end credits and, looking at the star ship designations found: USS constance - went missing at Worf 359, and according to wiki, had the notable commanders Locutus of Borg and someone called Hanson (apparently no relation to 7 of 9) USS pioneer - captained by Malcolm Reed from Enterprise with 1st officer Travis Mayweather The end credits also had a lot of references to DNA and the neural network
I just noticed at the end credits there is a part that pans past the LCARS displaying the holodeck startup protocol. The last line is in red and it says “safety protocols disengaged’
@@terminusaquo1980 A handful of episodes in STTNG had safety protocols disengaged. I would say this has something to do with Moriarty. Assuming these end credits are Easter Eggs of things to come.
I am glad to see That I am not the only one who saw that, if the episode is an indicator of the season, this is a rehash of the TOS movie Series with the TNG crew. I personally saw the Enemy vessel at the end and wondered if that is Lore's Borg since we had Hugh already and we have seen another Soren type character and Moriarty teased. On an unrelated note the alien ship is similar to the Vi'dar Talios in STFC and that also makes me think Borg.
Only other Easter egg I picked up on. When Picard was on the bridge asking if seven should inform engineering they were going to maximum warp and she informs him it's not necessary, is very similar to the conversation between Geordi and Scotty when they're in engineering during the episode Relics.
At 9:35 in this video, you can see Mr. Mott's Hair Emporium, Dabo Tables, and the Quark Bar with the phrase "What is yours is ours" all on M'Talas Prime
Thank you so much for this. Also note the chimes ringing during the bunk scene are from Star Trek 6. Particularly the dinner scene. Also the open PA chatter in the hallway when Picard and Riker arrive on the Titan
Awesome break down...it's interesting to know which easter egg's everyone catches...Thank you for breaking this down so quickly... but here is one not mentioned...the item on the back of Picard's office chair...from the episode "Who Watches the Watchers" Season 3 ep 4 TNG...the item the boys gives him at the end of the episode...not sure if you would call it an "easter egg" but it was there in the movies and went from the "D" to the "E" when he moved ships...
You missed three big easter eggs. At the end, during the credits, there's a screen shot about the Fleet Museum - Athan Prime that specifies four ships that are there. U.S.S. Voyager NCC 74858, U.S.S. Pioneer NCC 1500, U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A and U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-2000. Also in Picard's home office, you can see the rear section of the golden Enterprise-E model on his desk. Overall though, you do a great job. We always watch your easter egg videos after an episode. Keep 'em coming!!!
If you have looked at the Instagram logs put out before the premiere, the reason for the Enterprise-F's early decommissioning has to do with extensive damage taken during a mission. However, I firmly believe that the ship will prove at least somewhat instrumental in the end and be fully refit and recommissioned as the Yorktown-class Enterprise-F, ie. not changing enough to warrant a new letter designation like the Titan.
Longtime ScreenCrush watcher and lapsed Trek fan here, but goodness this breakdown and all the caught references is AMAZING! Well done, Ryan, now off to start Picard for the first time 🖖
@Adam Ridley it actually wasn't a changling in the episode. Apparently, it's an entirely new race. Trek Culture did a video about it about a week ago. Long story short, the way the scene was lit and the quickness of the shot made them look like a changling.
Notes as I watch: Romulan ale is probably no longer illegal after the collapse of the Romulan Star Empire. It's not true necessarily that Seven broke up with Raffi. She's lying to the guy because she's in intelligence as you say here. It's possible they broke up but it's also possible that they didn't. And if they did they could be on good terms. I guess we will find out. I loved the metaphasic shield reference. I don't think Picard confused deep space 4 with 11. I think he just didn't know it had shut down. But that definitely blew his cover. "The La Sirena" is excessive. It has 2 "the"s. Just say La Sirena. Poor Rachel Garrett, can't catch a break even as a statue. "47" is itself an Easter egg as the number appears multiple times in Trek. I believe it's a reference to Pomona College in some way. Anyhow, I enjoyed this video as always.
Great breakdown, I loved this episode, so many callbacks! Some things I noticed: the bad guy ship at the end is somewhat reminiscent of the Shadow ships of Babylon 5. And the model starships in Ten Forward are actual Hero Collector/Eaglemoss models from their Star Trek: the Official Starships Collection. That company’s gone bankrupt last year sadly so they now are true collector’s items. The smaller Enterprise-D model that’s tossed into the drink is a Micro Machine collectable. Keep up the great work!
Why do callbacks make for a good episode? Write a great show without stupid callbacks. Make it fit in the universe we know, instead of Beverly Crusher disappearing for 20 years which is completely ridiculous and out of character. I actually feel like this series has ruined these characters.
@@DanK123 People change.. and so has (Obliviously ) Crusher.. They even mentioned it when Picard and Riker saw the vaporised alien crusher had ruthlessly killed.
For future reference, the word "boatswain" is pronounced "BOH-sun". (Much like "coxswain" -- more commonly applied to the sport of rowing, but also used by several navies -- which is pronounced "KOX-uhn".) There are a ton of nautical terms which aren't pronounced the way they look, perhaps the most common being "starboard" which is said like "STAR-bird".
Missed easter egg: while searching for the communicator, Picard opens a box with a number of colored transparent plastic PADDs (I think). Those sat on his desk all the time on the D. He fiddled with them occasionally.
I think about those dopey PADDs all the time. I just think it's so funny that the creators could imagine so, so many creative tech advancements but the one thing they completely missed was that these guys are all walking around with stacks upon stacks of PADDs and running around the ship delivering them to each other. This place was lousy with Kindles.
Missed opportunity to have Ensign Kim on the bridge - could've done an intro with Seven introducing him to Picard: "This is Ensign Kim, we were on Voyager together" Harry: "And I'm STILL an Ensign and never got to shack up with Seven!"
He was promoted to Captain after Voyager and commands the Rhode Island even Star Trek Online has a story arc where the actor himself reprised his role. While some parts are Canon now from the game like several classes of ships are now. It's highly likely to say if they did bring Kim back he's no longer a Ensign but at the very least Commander or Captain by now in the 25th Century
@@lowspace4810 Not canon, and Garret Wang specifically wants him to still be an ensign, or have been one at recently quit in frustration of never making it up the ranks. He would like to see Harry as the longest serving Ensign in Starfleet history.
The piece of sheet music in the end credits is "Pop Goes the Weasel" which Data was whistling in the holodeck in "Encounter at Farpoint." It's even in the correct key.
Yep! Her real sister was played by Andreana Weiner. Granted Kristan Durst represented her sister for several scenes so I am willing to give him a little slack.
Hey you didnt mention how the metaphasic shield in important or that it was also in the episode "Descent" where it was used to hide in a sun from the Lore's borg faction
But it was clearly rescinded after as Nemesis had a line about it being illegal again. More than likely it was the Romulan supernova situation where it became legal: Romulus needed economic activity so exports such as ale became legal to Federation citizens to help support their economy.
Almost every review I read or watch mentions this "In the 25th Century" title card, but is that only in preview copies? I live in Canada, watched on Crave and it isn't there. Episode starts with the music in the nebula.
Bing Crosby (who is singing the old song mentioned at 1:15) is the paternal grandfather of Denise Crosby (Natasha Yar). Another Trek connection for you, Arey. So, it could be alluding to more Brent, the combination of Dorn, Spiner, Stewart, and Burton, or even an appearance from Denise Crosby. That song is now heavily intertwined with the Trek meta interestingly enough.
A few more.... One of Pickard's son's alias names is James Cole, the name of the main character from 12 monkeys . Also, young Guynan (not sure of spelling) in season 2 was working at a bar named Deacon's. In the 12 Monkeys series, Deacon said he always wanted to run a bar, and in the end of the series, he did, although it was called Brothers bar, I believe.
Here's another easter egg. The font and blue color used for the conversation between Rafi and her handler looked a lot like what was used for the A.I. interrogating Logan 5 in the movie "Logan's Run." Jerry Goldsmith wrote the score for "Logan's Run."
With all of this The Wrath of Khan references, there's no doubt Ed Speleers character is Jean-Luc son. And I'll be wishing that Jean-Luc would command a Enterprise Starship at the last few episodes.
When he picked up the flute (from episode 'Inner light' ) it gave my arms and neck the stand up hairs treatment....that was such an amazing episode from next generation yougotthis

Screencrush gets to watch the episodes probably a week or more in advance. That's why sometimes he slips up and says something like 4:50, 'there are a lot more 12 monkeys connections coming in this season of Picard' cause he's already seen them.
The metaphysic shielding mentioned in the episode is also a ref to decent. It’s how crusher was able to hide close to a sun without being destroyed.
Came to comments just to mention that as well.
Actually "Suspicions," not "Descent."
@@L8onL8on when Bev is in command in Descent pt II, she asks Ensign Taitt and Lt Barnaby who was played James Horan, the same actor who played Jo'Bril from Suspicions, to look up the metaphysic shielding program and implement it. Kris said it's *also* a reference to Descent which is the first time we see her in command.
@@toddramsey3799 Yeah you're right, I remembered after I posted that, my bad.
Raffys contact was Worf...... "Speak Freely"..... "Act of war, Your Are A Warrior"... Read it in Worfs voice
Yep...which was also the song Data was trying to whistle in "Encounter At Farpoint"
it's actually Pop Goes the Weasel -- mulberry bush has some similarities but doesn't match the notes onscreen.
A great start to the season...the Titan-A looks fabulous...the music...fantastic. I'm eagerly waiting for the rest of the season
so much research and references connecting is truly astounding work. Esp. Since the show air'd like in the last 24hrs!!! very well done!!
I have a feeling @ryan had screeners
so pumped for this season. Hope it continues like this and I hope we get easter egg videos of each episode
Also - what piece of sheet music is in the final credits?
@@SammyBuck Apparently it's "Pop Goes The Weasel", which Data was whistling on the holodeck in "Encounter at Farpoint."
This is an awesome compilation!
I loved the use of the red alert sound from TMP in the opening scene!
Respect.
I am and old very old Star Trek fan and I am really loving the new flavor they are using for this show. Sort of hard core like Andor. Familiar but different. What a nice breath of fresh air for this franchise. 😁
The Enterprise-F Odyssey class ship was the winning design in a contest held by Star Trek Online. It's awesome to see that it is made canon now.
the render they used on the screen was also ST: online promotional art, or at least the same framing and motive.
It’s the only Enterprise I don’t have in the game. I haven’t played the game much in the last several years.
Love your stuff... Best video ending EVER! Almost fell off my treadmill with the Spaceballs reference.
"Boatswain" is pronounced "Boe-son". The Titan was Riker's ride in several post-TNG novels
No Boatswain is just that .. Bosun is the shortened version of Boatswain. As "Swain" is Short for Coxswain
@@blazer666del Don't you mean cox'un?
Boatswain: ˈboʊ.sən (Cambridge dictionary)
@@blazer666del It's still pronounced bosun, no matter how you spell it.
I didn't see it mentioned, but the Red Alert Klaxon on the Eleos is the same Red Alert Klaxon as heard on the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Oh and that phaser rifle Dr.
There is a TOS phaser on Beverly's desk in the opening scene - looks like she is using it for parts.
Why is everybody forgetting the gift that Picard received on Mintaka 3 and that is hanging on his chair ever since.
I was definitely thinking this!
Believe me, I thought the “Conspiracy” plot line too….what’s to say they aren’t connected, hmmm? 🤔
We dissected the end credits and, looking at the star ship designations found:
USS constance - went missing at Worf 359, and according to wiki, had the notable commanders Locutus of Borg and someone called Hanson (apparently no relation to 7 of 9)
USS pioneer - captained by Malcolm Reed from Enterprise with 1st officer Travis Mayweather
The end credits also had a lot of references to DNA and the neural network
I just noticed at the end credits there is a part that pans past the LCARS displaying the holodeck startup protocol. The last line is in red and it says “safety protocols disengaged’
That's a reference to First Contact
@@terminusaquo1980 A handful of episodes in STTNG had safety protocols disengaged. I would say this has something to do with Moriarty. Assuming these end credits are Easter Eggs of things to come.
It might also be reference to "Moriarty", the hologram that became self-aware and who is in the trailer.
Actually it reminded me more of Bones to Kirk, "You want a tranquilizer?" "NO"
You sir are really, really amazing with these easter egg breakdown videos. Thanks!
At 9:35 in this video, you can see Mr. Mott's Hair Emporium, Dabo Tables, and the Quark Bar with the phrase "What is yours is ours" all on M'Talas Prime
That scene is actually from Picard Season 1 for comparison to what we are seeing on M'Talas.
Thank you so much for this.
Also note the chimes ringing during the bunk scene are from Star Trek 6. Particularly the dinner scene. Also the open PA chatter in the hallway when Picard and Riker arrive on the Titan
At 11:37 Is that a cali class in the background
No, that's the Sutherland class.
Now, all I can think of is Werner Herzog actually being in an episode of Picard... I can dream...
Great fun video. Thanks for posting. I have only seen S1E1 of this series.
The Defiant is also there
@@christianschonrock8184 AKA The Whitestar. ; )
Whitestar?
If you have looked at the Instagram logs put out before the premiere, the reason for the Enterprise-F's early decommissioning has to do with extensive damage taken during a mission. However, I firmly believe that the ship will prove at least somewhat instrumental in the end and be fully refit and recommissioned as the Yorktown-class Enterprise-F, ie. not changing enough to warrant a new letter designation like the Titan.
In the M’Talus Prime bar scene 2 people are using the eyeball device from TNG episode “The Game.”
Longtime ScreenCrush watcher and lapsed Trek fan here, but goodness this breakdown and all the caught references is AMAZING! Well done, Ryan, now off to start Picard for the first time 🖖
Loved it! I’m calling it now they are visiting DS9.
That would be cool.
Loved the premier, and...I have Brent Spiner's CD!!! I grew up with big band music (my dad's music of choice), so I'm something of a throwback...lol
Did anyone else catch the changeling crewperson on the titan?
I did!
Where was the changeling in episode 2? Great spot by the way!
@Adam Ridley it actually wasn't a changling in the episode. Apparently, it's an entirely new race. Trek Culture did a video about it about a week ago. Long story short, the way the scene was lit and the quickness of the shot made them look like a changling.
@@popcultureotaku3761 Ahh ok cool. Thanks for explaining.
The music notes in the end credits are from the song "Pop goes the weasel", which Data whistles in "Encounter at Farpoint"
Forcastle Pronounced "Folk sall"
@@blazer666del fo-c-le
these easter eggs are really well researched. hats off to your (and, perhaps, your dog's) sleuthing.
The word boatswain is pronounced "Bosun", as in Bosun's Mate or Bosun's Chair.
You have done the best Eggy Job. Fantastic! There is a great reason that you have 1.3 million subs. Bravissimo!
The bunk beds LOWER DECKS MUCH!!!
There were tons more that were missed. Love this channel but they need a hardcore Trek fan on staff.
You do so much work and so fast, just wanted to let you know we appreciate it all! Say hi to Ryan too, thanks again little high-fiving dog
I loved 12 Monkeys so it's wonderful to see all the connections to that show in Picard.
Deacon.
He would like to see Harry as the longest serving Ensign in Starfleet history.
is it me, or is that a California Class from Lower Decks in the background at 11:31
Good eye, very well could be. I think there is at least a 20 year difference between Lower Decks and 3rd Season Picard.
@@tnbison yeah, but they kept Excelsior and Miranda classes active for 80 years.
@@MikeAMyers correct.
I'm pretty sure that's a Sutherland class
The piece of sheet music in the end credits is "Pop Goes the Weasel" which Data was whistling in the holodeck in "Encounter at Farpoint." It's even in the correct key.
ummmm Kirsten Dunst did not play Troi's Sister. She was part of a telepathic race that reminded her Troi's mother of her sister.
Yep! Her real sister was played by Andreana Weiner. Granted Kristan Durst represented her sister for several scenes so I am willing to give him a little slack.
Todd Stashwick isn't only a Terry Matalas Easter Egg, he was also Talok (a kind-of in-universe Easter Egg) in Star Trek: Enterprise
Is it me or did he say Picard ramming ‘The Shinzon’ instead of ‘The Scimitar’? 🤔
Hey you didnt mention how the metaphasic shield in important or that it was also in the episode "Descent" where it was used to hide in a sun from the Lore's borg faction
Romulan Ale was legalized when the Romulans joined the Federation side during the Dominion War.
I think the person Raffi is working with is Worf.
It'd be hilarious if they're Alexander
@@jmarquiso are you joking that would be a brilliant twist
@Chris Innes brilliant AND hilarious, using the alias K'mtat
The sheet music we see has the melody of "Pop goes the weasel" that Data was trying to whistle in the holodeck in first episode of ST:TNG

Just fantastic, loved every minute of it being whizzed back into the Star Trek universe. Superb, and now can’t wait for the next episode.
I didn't even know Picard s3 started o_O
I liked this breakdown, I hope you get the views to continue doing it
With all of this The Wrath of Khan references, there's no doubt Ed Speleers character is Jean-Luc son. And I'll be wishing that Jean-Luc would command a Enterprise Starship at the last few episodes.
He looks more like Jack’s son Wesley was Jean-Luc’s!
