Like so many here, I'm really appreciative that you covered Star Trek. A big wrap up is tbh, what the show needed. It was arguably pretty slow paced to warrant weekly videos.
Great job as always Ryan!
Many thanks for this, Ryan. I know that Star Trek doesn't bring as many views to the channel as the MCU shows and movies or Star Wars, but anytime you cats cover it, I'm all over it. Fingers crossed for content on Strange New Worlds. Also, here's hoping for a vid of the first half of Better Call Saul season 6 after it goes on break. This season has been fantastic.
Many many thanks Ryan. I think we got one screencrush episode on the first episode of season 2, and then that was it….So, I am so utterly thankful for this Ryan., god bless you! Your content is the best and the most in depth! You never miss a thing, and that’s why your my favourite. Hope to see you crush season 3 bro! Keep it up!
I am also really thankful. Great movies and genre shows are only complete upon the screen crush follow up. The post post credit content.
One nice Easter Egg missed: before leaving, Q says “see you out there” to Picard, just as he did at the end of All Good Things 😉
I peeped 🥰
The Punk on the Bus is a fixed point in time. In this universe, Kirk and his Half-Vulcan henchman travelled back to acquire whale meat to bait a trap to catch the probe.
Could be a nice idea for Star Trek "What if" Animated Series.
Thanks so much for doing these! I’ve missed you covering every episode weekly.👏😀One note though, the dream state Picard goes into where he sees his Dad as a Counsellor isn’t on the Enterprise-E, it’s just a random Ready Room from some other time. Also, bizarrely, the uniform his Dad wears is actually a mix. It’s got the outer jacket of the early DS9 medical uniform but the undershirt from the First Contact (or late DS9) era. This becomes most obvious when he walks into the light. One theory I’ve mentioned to other fans is it’s a slight nod to some fans mistaking actor James Callis for Alexander Siddig, who played Doctor Bashir on DS9 (some people even thought it was Bashir in THIS episode!). There’s a DS9 two-parter in Season 5 where we learn Bashir’s been a Dominion prisoner for months and has been replaced by a Changeling. The show differentiates between the two by having the real Bashir still wearing the older uniform and the Changeling wearing the new one (as they’d just changed the uniforms a few episodes earlier!).
One of the things I love about Ryan is how he uses logic to plug plot holes, as I like to do the same thing. I had the same explanation for the Bus Punk here. I also point to how he grabbed at the front of his neck instead of the side, which implies that whoever messed with him from the Confederacy probably choked him or punch him, instead of the nerve pinch
Was sad that SC didn't cover Picard S2. But this video did not disappoint! Please cover Strange New Worlds! :)
Thanks for the video! One Easter egg not mentioned was when Rafi was transported to L.A., she lands outside a sanctuary district, which were introduced in the ds9 episodes where they go back in time and relive the bell riots. They also said the ice agents were sending Rios to another sanctuary district before he was rescued. The bell riots haven't happened yet.
Missed you!!!! I mean loved the Moon Knight stuff but missed you for this. Had to go to Trek Culture...
...but a down from me this week... Wolf 359 is a star system, the one where a nasty battle happened, not a planet attacked by the Borg.
20:09 It’s not a rumor.
There’s a teaser trailer for Picard Season 3. It came out weeks ago. It’s on the Paramount Plus UA-cam channel.
They mention a bunch of familiar names in the trailer
I truly appreciate these even though I didn't really like the season I do like some of the Easter eggs
I hate the term easter egg, i hope by star treks time christianity is dead
@@Ottophil lmao... a) we ARE in star trek time, fool... smh.. b) hate is such a strong term, clearly you have learned nothing from the Star Trek universe... and c) make an Idol of Nietzsche all you want, but certainly God is NOT dead.. Not in this timeline, nor the next. jabronie.
The queens make for some great acting, but I agree that the Borg were even more fascinating and inaccessible when they were just a hive with no queen.
I completely agree.. but with all good things, even with AI, there has to be a starting point. a singularity.
You seem to have missed one of the biggest Easter eggs... Agent Wells is clearly the custodian of the X Files in this timeline, and a tribute to Agent Mulder. An FBI agent who works out of a basement filled with stored files, works day and night without sleep to prove the existence of extraterrestrials and resolve a childhood trauma. The reference couldn't be clearer.
oh man i love that reference. that is so true.
This breakdown makes this past season 10 times better.
I’m just confused where all data’s ancestors are coming from. They are all clearly descendants of eachother but it seems none of them have natural offspring to descend from.
This!
Well, Adam Soong did seem to have cloning pretty much figured out, so...
Thank you so much Ryan for covering this. At last you cover something I like. I loved season 2 I thought it was amazing.
im glad you included some of the 12monkeys easters eggs in Picard. 12monkeys is really a underrated gem and arguely the best series finale i ever seen
edit: 5:23 is also a reference to 12monkeys, the palid man a villian of the tv show
and 9:08 and James Callis was also in 12Monkeys as a timetraveler. 11:40 Jay Karnes also plays a 1940s FBI agent in 12monkeys that was bewilderd by timetravel and got the nickname Wells also there
guess that happens when Terry Matalas was/is a show runner for both shows
9:05 The mural she’s painting foreshadows Picard finding her dead.
THIS Easter Egg review was excellent. There were things that I didn't catch! Thank you. I can't wait for season 3!!!
I was finally happy to see Seven of Nine get a sapphic relationship like Jeri Ryan and Kate Mulgrew always wanted to happen on Voyager
Thank you Doug, you kept Ryan on track.
wow. you could charge money for this recap. splendid job sir. ryan arey and your team.
Star Trek Strange New Worlds....do that! Great breakdown as always! Picard is turning out to be a great homage to ST:TNG and send-off for this amazing cast. Wesley F'n Crusher....c'mon! I wonder if they're doing a Travler spin-off.
Thanks for all of the easter eggs. This season of Picard started strong, but it got lost in the middle and never recovered well. Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm. Please cover Stange New Worlds!
Thanks for posting this!
Brilliant video picking up the Easter eggs, and there were a lot of them: nicely done. I saw maybe one you haven’t picked up-the Dixon Hill novel was written by Tracy Tormé a writer on Next Generation.
I like in the episode where picard and his dad are talking in the office, on the desk is a few eaglemoss model ships
The name Wells is also the class of ship the USS Relativity was in the episode by the same name
and the concept model NX-01, both being a new ship to canon is also the eaglemoss model
Excellent!!! I’ve been wondering why all of the MCU guys haven’t been covering any Trek. Thanks for this!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is awesome Ryan! Good catch on references other UA-camrs missed. Much respect to you!
I loved this, but a few notes: James Callis's uniform is not DS9 era, but a version of the Voyager uniform. Secondly, Jurati appears in a late-23rd century Starfleet command uniform, not a DS9/VOY uniform. Finally, Q's final closing line to Picard is the exact closing line he uses in "All Good Things..." which was really, really sweet.
A pop culture easter egg about the actor playing JLP's father, James Callis, is that he has an uncanny resemblance to DS9 actor Alexander Siddig who played Dr. Bashir.
they still use future tech to solve all their problems tho. Guinan didn't remember picard in the 21st century because it's a different timeline, yet original timeline Guinan is privy to all things that happened in the alternate timeline the show takes place in which is even more complicated by the fact that borg queen and captain guy are left in the alternate timeline yet somehow exist in the past in the original timeline.
Good Morning, As I have listened to you recap of the season till the FINAL EPISODE. I really enjoy your information and It help to make my score for the season a little better. Now lets hear the final review.
So glad I found this! I watch all of your MCU recaps and easter eggs and most other youtube channels are just shitting on ST so it was awesome to hear you covering it with enthusiasm! This season was all over the place but I felt like they really tied it together pretty well in the finale. I was so happy to see Wesley make an appearance, Wil is doing a great job on the Ready Room episodes so it was very cool to see him pop up. One final thought, I oved what Talinn said to Picard in her final moments, it was wonderful to hear
Wow. Just Wow. Ive watched a bunch of Picard wrap up videos. but man you guys just nailed it. I bet it took a long time to make this video.
Would love to see species 8472 in season 3.
I would say the gates are from the Iconians but im not sure...
Maybe that trans warp conduit at the end of season 2?
Really appreciate you circling back to cover this series. Hope you cover other Star Trek shows in the future, if even just a little.
you also hear Picard's voice say "THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!!" which is brilliant and genius at the same time.
I saw Patrick Stewart in the thumbnail and got real upset for a half second that this was going to be Dr Strange spoilers lol. Going to see that today!
But good video! I think I might finally watch this?
I just stay away from UA-cam and social media until I see the movie. Thumbnails and video titles have spoiled a lot of movies for me already.
SO AWESOME THAT YOU COVERED THIS!!! THANK YOU!!!
When I first saw that orange coloured wormhole that reminded me of the Mirror universe. It would be nice to see what became of them as well.
Excellent work Ryan!
Worf rocked DS9! I hope they bring back Terry Farrell as Dax! Also his brother Kurn with Tony Todd. Both are such sad stories 🤔😁👍
I seen a Egg that was probly easily overlooked, At the very end when the camara pan's to the star field just before the ending credits you see a Star go Nova, It was said in Star Trek Voyager when they were helping fight the Q" to save Q" That when a Q" die's a star goes Nova, Could that have been Q" dying ? Can't miss it. it is just after a star streak then the Nova star. Check it out !
Good one!!
Also 😢😢😢
Uao. You did such an amazing job! I loved the name of all the plantes on the screen because that shows all the passion you've put in this video. BTW, you have shown lots of easter egg I did'n get, so thanks!!!
I like the Easter egg of the lasers on the guns of the soldiers that were assimilated representing the eye lasers of the borg
Thank you for what you do! This video was better written and paced then that whole season!
I love the passion the makers of Picard have for the star trek "universe ".
2:16 Tomorrow is Yesterday also a pretty good Powerman 5000 song
Captain Worf would be sick!! Explore that Klingon backstory with today's writing and FX!
I noticed in the Episode when Guinan & Picard are arrested by Wells that in typical police action the Black woman is handcuffed with hands BEHIND her back while the 'suspected Alien' is handcuffed with his hands in FRONT. Then while being questioned the suspected ALIEN is NOT handcuffed and Guinan is not questioned. Perfect attention to American police force details. And such an ironic moment: White Picard is Terran while the Black Guinan is the Alien.
Terrific Easter egg recap of season 2. Definitely love to see you do videos on Strange New Worlds! 🖖🏾
Thanks for the review, I enjoyed Picard even though I know a lot of people didn’t. The problem was in part the formate of both season 1 and 2 being basically a 10 hour episode. It meant the needed to be quite a lot of filler. It’s interesting Strange New Worlds has gone back to story of the week episodes and is being much better received. I hope you review it as well at the end of its first season.
I enjoy all your content keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for all your Star Trek videos! I am your fan from Taiwan 🖖🖖🖖
Bruh i just watched your first video and you post a new one what a perfect timeing
Every single one? He covers anything cool
One of the best ST videos! So nostalgic
Great job of Easter eggs. Jam packed! My favorite type of episode.
New Providence was the first Federation colony attacked by the Borg. Wolf 359 is the site of the disastrous Battle of Wolf 359 highlighted in the premiere of Deep Space Nine.
I should have added that this was a really great video. Explained a lot of stuff.
The columns around the Book of Vishanti were very obviously modeled from St. Peter's Baldachin, with small alterations (the fluting angle is less horizontal and there are no bees, the symbol of the Borghese family who sponsored much art as a sign of influence during the Renaissance/Baroque period).
I loved Wesley's cameo.
Hello ! as always great info for fans. I hope to see a time travel show with Kore and Wesley. Thanks
Small nitpick: Queen Agnes has nothing to do with the Borg we've experienced before. She's responsible for an entirely 'new' and separate Collective. No change whatsoever with the 'OG' collective.
Also: Wil Wheaton has confirmed that, basically, Wesley was *not* in Nemesis - canonically anyway. I do agree that appearance could have been 'in cover' to not draw attention away from the wedding, unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.
Thats was great Ryan. Good job
Awesome work, like all those before me in the comments I want to say thank you for covering star trek. Love the trek content !
Damn. Amazing attention to detail. Thank you.
Thank You Ryan - as always, you make this fun ;)
Again thanks for the catch up!
Seems really odd that they cast the guy who played a time travel agent in Voyager in a series featuring more than a few time travelling agents, and went absolutely nowhere with it.
They reused a lot of Trek actors this season as easter eggs. As another example, the one older guy in the clinic that Rios helps out? He's from the TNG episode Devil's Due. He's the leader of the planet that the con artist is trying to dupe.
So should this all have been about how she'd come back and gotten revenge on Picard using the dying Q continuum as pawns and she'd sent that leader back in time in advance to bear witness?
With about a dozen small easter egg cameos which one would have been the right one to truly base the whole season around?
This was just Trek doing what it's always done. Reusing talent in new roles.
James Cromwell wasn't always Zefram Cochrane. He was once Prime Minister Nayrok of the planet Angosia III.
Don't get me started on Jeffrey Combs...
not really since he was also in 12 monkey, there he played a 1940s FBI agent that encounters some timetravelers. and got the nickname HG wells.
also the guy who played Picards father was also in that show
Terry Matalas was/is showrunner both shows, inserted a lot of 12monkeys easter eggs in picard
Wow, this was great. 👍🏾👍🏾 Many thanks. 👏🏾🖖🏾
It seems that you missed the fact that in, I think 2 scenes, there is shown the 21st Street Mission, which is Edith Keeler's mission in City. Also, Floyd's barber shop was originally in Mayberry of the Andy Griffith Show - they reused the set for City
Thanks, Ryan! 🌌
Wow, Ryan, pulling a line from At Home with Amy Sedaris. A shame you are already married. I thoroughly enjoyed this video by the way as it brought some greater appreciation to this series. I saw Jeri Ryan post how earlier in the season, Seven told Picard, "You owe me a ship." At the end, he grants her command of the Stargazer since Rios isn't there.
This video was better than the season. Great finds!
Thanks for this Ryan! I love Star Trek!😃🤓
There's also a new character in ST: Strange New Worlds named La'an Noonien-Singh. It'll be interesting to see how they tie that all together.
Didn't have the bandwidth? Huh?
Anyhow, I love your channel and always love your insight. If you would in the future, please cover each episode of not only Strange New Worlds, but Picard Season 3. Doing an entire season recap in just one episode, you miss so much. Thanks again.
Khan himself in Star Trek II stated they left Earth in 1996
I'm going to offer an alternate to the Project Khan files. The Eugenics Wars still happened in the late 90s as has always been the case. Soong is just going to revitalize the project and use it as a basis for his next projects.
Worf! Worf! Worf! We want Worf!!!!! Give us Worf!!!!! Michael Dorn = the next generation of Picard. Listen to the Ryan!!!!! Also! Thanks for all the content over the year Ryan. I hope you and your family get everything you wish for in life.
Thanks for doing justice to this oddly slapdash and underwhelming season of TV. It felt like they had 4 good episodes worth of story and just stretched it out to 10. One thing I'm not sure anyone else has brought up is that the unfolding squid-mouth of the nu-borg mothership is extremely reminiscent of the look of the Narada from the Kelvin timeline! As the Narada was a mining ship upgraded with Borg tech that allowed it to 'heal' and grow when Nero and co were taken by Klingons, it isn't too much of a stretch to think that appearance is hard-wired Borg design.
Hey Ryan, great review! Personally, I am thinking that the reintroduction of the Supervisors and Wesley are to finally do Gene Roddenberry's Assignment Earth series that was canceled in the 60s. It would presumably fill in the blanks of the Eugenics Wars and we already know who our new Supervisor will be, presumably after a bit of training. Also wouldn't it be fantastic if Terri Garr stepped in with a xameo or even a recurring role as her character from TOS?
Great episode!
Did anyone else catch the Stargate in the back of the scene in Episode 5, minute 18.06 (behind Adam Soong)...?
The thing that changes the timeline had not occurred by the time that picard and the crew had returned to, so people from all possible timelines could possibly come back to the same point from different places in the timeline
Ryan Arey
Ryan you gotta do Strange New Worlds,. the entire first episode was full of Easter Eggs
The first episode had some promise that we might get some actual Star Trek, but it quickly descended into more mindless Kurtzman trek soon after that.
As of April 5th, season 3 announcement stated all the main cast members are returning
it would never happen, but I'd like to see an animated series where Nog is captain of a bunch of reformed and joined star fleet characters. nog and his crew use their non-star fleet thinking and skills to save the day and walk a line but in a comedic way.
Wolf 359 is a dwarf star, not a planet and wasn't attacked by the Borg. It's where Starfleet made their "last stand" against them in Best of Both Worlds Part II and 39 ships were destroyed, leaving Earth largely defenseless.
Great job putting together this list. However, I have a little quibble. The Eugenics Wars were not “implied” to have taken place in the 1990s, it was outright stated unambiguously. Unfortunately, one of the show’s producers is suggesting that “Spock got it wrong.” Uh, did Khan himself get it wrong, too? In Star Trek II, he very specifically stated that the Botany Bay was launched in 1996. Again, nothing was implied. It was directly stated.
Inner Light is the best tng!! Great review!
How about seeing: The Breen, The Tzenkethi, The Hirogen and the return of the Zindi? and any other baddy you like
I really think the issue people are having is that the timelines are different universes. Q didn't just push them back in time but to a whole new timeline. I also think that's where the new borg queen comes from and the trans warp conduit is to one of the other universes.
That is not a Nemesis era uniform Picard's father is wearing. It is a DS9/Voyager jumpsuit.
Also, I would love a Worf series too. Please, Paramount.
I think the early introduction of transparent aluminum in The Voyage Home is why the Strange New Worlds and Discovery's Enterprise looks more futuristic than TOS.
Some say this is still a quassi Kevin timeline because Kurtzman said "reasons". This timeline is influenced by the travel back in time by the Borg (first contact) and that captured Borg tech (enterprise) led to advanced ships.
But we all know the truth. Old budgets old sets and technology just weren't up to snuff for modern day tools and companies. Thus creating super futuristic sets was impossible back then.
That said the recreations basically took a dump on what was sacred. There are ways you could have made the designs more modern looking without disgracing the old sets: from reconfigurable panels to more detailed props. Yes it would have been slightly plain Jane but a considerable upgrade.
It's not about the special effects or sets. It's about the plot and character development.
Thanks for this video. As a fan of 12 Monkeys, I noticed the references but thought it might be a coincidence. I am now convinced it was intentional. Great video but I wish you had the list of Easter eggs in some sort of companion bullet list so I can look for them specifically when rewatching the season. Would you upload the script somewhere so we can check each item off?
Wrong, Captain Sulu was the 2nd CO of that ship. If you remember Scotty was the CHENG and he made sure it didn’t chase Kirk.
