As a South African, I like what Daryl says about not trashing his country of origin. My brother left South Africa more than 20 years ago, and my daughter, husband and grandkids left a year ago. We love our country, the climate, and our networks of friends and family. However, it has become increasingly difficult to function here when you pay your local government for services, and they fail to deliver. Over the last thirty years, South Africa deteriorated steadily and undeniably, which is why I have followed this channel for some time. Taking the step to leave remains expensive and risky, especially later in your life.
Good luck to Daryl and his spouse.
Hi, I'm available on headforthehillsromania@gmail.com if you need more direct advice. :)
Its a tough country to live in, especially if white, mixed race or indian. Its a sad thing what panafricanism did to it, probably worse than apartheid in many ways, even if some people scoff at this statement. Those parties spread hate, the politicians get rich, and ALL the rest of the people suffer. Welcome to Romania Darrell.
I could never live in a country where there is open racism again some demographics that no one seems to care about. I watched a video a while ago about "shoot to kill" as they were dancing and instigating for violence. 😮
I am a South African that regularly visit Romania through my work. Love it. By far safer than South Africa and with many people that can speak english.
if you ever fancy buying a home here get in touch, it maybe cheaper and more simple than you think
Your welcome in Romania. I live in the last 9 years in UK, but next summer I'll be back in România forever. My city Oradea, my county Bihor ❤❤❤❤
Nice :)
@@randomromania honestly I wish more Britons to move in Romania, just not Londoners, country side Britons are not the same, and definitely many things to learn about protecting your, environment etc.
@@mudurapaulcristian2898 what criteria would you select people by if you could?
@@randomromania I'm not in the position to select criteria, I won't be, and nobody will made kind of criteria. Everyone are welcome to live, enjoy and support România.
@@mudurapaulcristian2898 no no no, romania should be looking to encourage the best people in, why would you want just anyone? i am thinking to move there myself but it seems they started to flirt with toxic multiculturalism already
God bless Romania
I love what you are doing, I am very interested in the community you are trying to build. I moved in Romania 17 years ago, now I am a professional photographer/cinematographer in Bucharest but I love the country side and I am looking to move away from the capital. Congrats for this channel and I hope we can talk more soon. Cheers!
Hi, feel free to email me on headforthehillsromania@gmail.com then I can send you some direct contact details. :)
Romania is such a gorgeous country. I see that South Africans are heading to Eastern Europe in numbers. I'm moving to Bulgaria later next year, so will contact your sponsor for solar back-up options (I'm 100% solar here in the USA).
Hi, we can get you a discount from our sponsor so please contact us on headforthehillsromania@gmail.com and let me introduce you. Cheers. Ed. :)
That's interesting! I haven't noticed that trend (of South Africans going to Eastern Europe in numbers), but I have noticed an influx of immigrants from countries like Slovakia, Romania, etc to South Africa. In fact just got a new neighbor here who is an engineer, recently emigrated from southern Europe to SA.
@@sgtunix yes i can imagine that but i think for older people many just want peace and stability and south africa is not really trending in that direction
kitoffgrid.com/en/ - that's our sponsor's web site, I can get you a decent discount plus i know a fair bit myself from a technical perspective
@@sgtunixIt used to be, at least for Romanian. Romania hasjust depassed Hungary, Portugal etc. In terms of Actual Individual Consumption, Romania is ahead of Italy, Spain, for instance.
Great talk! Love to see the insights expats have on our country!
cool, we'll try to make more of these videos
who is this guy (Random Romania)?? I found out about him now and I think he must be the minister of tourism in Romania ❤
i was keeping a low profile until recently
Another video? You're spoiling us!
We're on a roll :))
Thanks Ed,Darrell(is it?)looking forward to the next one;and good to know (: South Affies will find a safe haven in Romania.
Romania is massively underrated. Romanians are OK too.
Not really. We are much nicer than the British😅
Great project.
we're getting there :)
That kind of very interesting channel, whose topic caught my attention for the first time. the idea of creating an open-minded community, in a quiet area, where you can produce your own food...wow, for me it remains the ideal option at that moment. Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you :)
Good video. I too want to move. It looks like it's better to visit first. Then make decisions on housing etc.
sure, feel free to contact me directly
Great interview Ed, Darrell has some great comments. Hope he and his wife find the right place for them to stay.
thank you, i'm learning not to talk so much and listen more :))

Great content.
Thank you, please share it, that really helps us. :)
very nice video!
So basically Daryl works for an international company from Romania. Which is indeed a sweet deal.
that's his plan but that's the best plan for all ex-pats until romania gets less bureaucratic
i've met a south african woman that moved to Brasov
All the deserted Saxon villages could benefit from an influx of people wanting a peaceful life in the countryside...
curious to know more, please email me about this on headforthehillsromania@gmail.com
When you move to a country like Romania, which is very religious, 97% Orthodox, you have to adapt, not try to change this, as happens in Birmingham or other cities in the UK, where the English are afraid to talk about their religion because they are surrounded by Muslims. If you like the country you came to, respect and keep what you found, if not, no one is holding you by force, it is your decision where it is better to go or stay. No offence!
Anglican Church and the Orthodox Church are sister churches, both being fundamentally Christian. In conclusion, the fact that Romania is Orthodox will not create any disadvantage for another Christian culture, especially since Orthodoxy is a more tolerant religion than Catholicism I would say. For a Christian or even an atheist, religion in Romania is his last problem. We have been living in peace and quiet with many religious communities for many years.
Um, I'm a Romanian atheist and have no issues living in Romania 😂 most Romanian are religious in name only anyway! Romania isn't IRAN!!! Mind your own business and I'll mind mine.

Welcome!
...The idea of building an off grid community is not bad...the isolated off grid land been the only type of land still affordable. You can leave a house more than one month especially if there is not much value on it. Half of the Romanian countryside has empty houses. My relatives villa located on the mountains was only ones in 25 years break into by robbers . They took nothing but the cooper pipes the lost being covered by the insurance. However before deciding to buy spend off grid one one cold season November-May to see if the place is for you....Any green sunny place may be a bit depressing in a cold rain, a sea of mud, naked trees etc. Tourism is not to be confused with Immigration!
november-may, cold season? december-march more like, depends where you are of course
From the end of October until end of April...some years even in early May in the Romanian houses you have heating...in the mountain regions, sometimes you may need some heating even in August. Also true that in the last 2 decades winters became milder.
@@ISPRI2011 i noticed the winters becoming milder too
This past weekend (21-22 Oct) there were temperatures over 30 degrees. Swam in the Black Sea and was absolutely fine.
Romanians do not know what a nice country’s they have they want to move to Britain and Brit’s want to move there what does that tell you
In general people should look for happiness within?
I’ve been in Romania many times and have fond memories of the people I met you are crazy if you give that up to move to moslem Britain and I’m a Brit 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
As an romanian living in UK for 6 years, I can tell you that you as well have an beautifull country, the problem in UK in my opinion are just the soft laws... I love both România and UK as being one. Long live the king!
👏❤️✊🇷🇴
As a romanian, i know it is a beautiful country , as long as u dont move to Bucharest
Bucharest is a great city if you can appreciate culture! It's the case with many cities in Romania.

Romania= libertate
more than 50% percent of Romanians speak english
probable more than 50% among the youth...
Calling transylvanians, romanians is like calling english irish, or scottish, or welsh.
I beg to differ
That’s not a real thing, people from Transilvania are ethnically romanian, except for the minorities.
@@ThhVkk I think you would abd currently offending transylvanians by calling them romanians. From my experience, they are hugely insulted to be called romanians, especially non-transylvanians, becau they associate them with thiefs, beggars and roma ethnics
Bullshit pal!
they're the same people, calling them Romanian is the right way. A better parallel is calling a londoner a loiner, both english but from different regions.
Plus we have alot of arable land that just sits around nobody works it ..
Some South African farmers might do wonders on those.
We need honest people like Afrikaaners in this country ,welcome ! But if you come to Romania please choose Transilvania ,trust me ..
network is more important than location but this is partially true
