Mac McClung G League Highlights (11/17/23) Magic Vs Hustle (44 pts 3 assists 6 rebounds)

  • Brilliant performance from Mac in this one, tying his career high with 44 points on 13-23 shooting, 6-13 from three, 8-9 from the line, to go along with 6 boards, 3 assists, just 1 turnover, 2 steals and a block.
This was one of the best comebacks I've seen in awhile. The first 10 mins of the 3rd quarter the Magic played some of the worst basketball I've ever seen, missing nearly every shot, with tons of careless unforced turnovers. In the last 90 secs Mac scored 7 points to bring them within 19 to start the 4th. From there the team as a whole really put it together, but you could tell it was Mac's energy and tenacity leading the charge.
Queen struggled yet again in this one, but finally got it going at the end of the 4th hitting a bunch of big shots.
It's just mind boggling to me that the NBA continues to overlook Mac, the man's competitiveness, toughness, skills, athleticism, excitement, etc. are all top tier. He could be the NBA's version of Kurt Warner if someone is ever smart enough to give him a legit chance.
Lastly, it was reported that Puma extended Mac's shoe contract today, which is great news. The reality is that Mac has a better shot at making the NBA playing in the G league than overseas, and that shoe contract likely allows Mac to stay in the US and play instead of needing to chase a bag overseas like many others do.

If he doesn’t get a guaranteed deal in the NBA, then the g-league is officially a failed experiment.

Not sure what else he has to prove!? Whichever GM signs him to a minimum contract is going to look like a genius!
What more can you ask for in a backup PG? He’s a student of the game, hard worker, instant offense, insane athlete, gets his own shot, creates for others, hustles, super efficient, humble, constantly improving. Literally ZERO downside giving him a shot in the League

sensational game from Mac - the 44 points was huge and he showed a lot of leadership bringing the Magic back, but for me the best part was his defensive effort and activity in the fourth quarter, he was locked in, made plays and no mistakes. If he can provide that level of defensive performance more often, it'll get him in the league.

McClung would be a star in the NBA IF he’d be allowed to quarterback a team in his dominant style of play. The NBA will never ever let that happen. He should just go overseas and get paid.

No defense, huh? Several clutch defensive moments along with almost single handedly leading the come from behind win. Why are Mac critics obsessing on his defense and height? Mac's defense is better than 90% of NBA bench guards and even some starters (Lillard and Harden come to mind). Also, whatever happened to rooting for "David" against the "Goliaths"? Players like Mac should be looked upon as underdog inspirations especially for those who are not black. He's a stereotype myth buster that the NBA (just like what's happening in the NFL) wants to prevent from growing to break the prevailing status quo.

I don't think it has anything to do with race, it's size - nobody wants a 6'2 guy with short arms in the modern NBA and it's incredibly hard for a guy like that, especially an undrafted one like Mac, to get a GM and coach to believe in him and give him a real shot. He'll get there if he keeps playing like this though, his talent level is undeniably good enough to be on a roster somewhere at this point.

  • @ryanbarr2977

It really at this point has boiled down to two things to why this kid is not rostered fulltime on a actual NBA team with the deal to match. Either the leauge is full blown racist towards spectacular American white players or he needs to fire his agent thats it!!

    • @larrycolumbia6997

More specifically, they’re racist against white point guards, especially white point guards with a dominant style of play. Luka Dončić is the only white point guard that starts regularly in the NBA and Luka isn’t really a point guard. He’s a facilitator that just happens to play point guard.

@@r2153 I just don't get that at all I mean do they want to put a$$es in the seats or don't they because if he was a player for my hometown team I would pay to go and watch him live and I don't even like the NBA. The NBA isn't exactly at all what it used to be even before Kobe retired.

@@ryanbarr2977 Daryl Morey former GM of Houston Rockets: “Maybe the mind’s best trick of all was to lead its owner to a feeling of certainty about inherently uncertain things. Over and again in the draft you saw these crystal-clear pictures form in the minds of basketball experts which later proved a mirage. The picture in virtually every professional basketball scout’s mind of Jeremy Lin, for instance. The now world-famous Chinese American shooting guard graduated from Harvard in 2010 and entered the NBA draft. “He lit up our model,” said Morey. “Our model said take him with, like, the 15th pick in the draft.” The objective measurement of Jeremy Lin didn’t square with what the experts saw when they watched him play: a not terribly athletic Asian kid. Morey hadn’t completely trusted his model-and so had chickened out and not drafted Lin. A year after the Houston Rockets failed to draft Jeremy Lin, they began to measure the speed of a player’s first two steps: Jeremy Lin had the quickest first move of any player measured. He was explosive and was able to change direction far more quickly than most NBA players. “He’s incredibly athletic,” said Morey. “ “But the reality is that every fucking person, including me, thought he was unathletic. And I can’t think of any reason for it other than he was Asian.”
