- Yes guys!! Today we’re joined by the World’s Best Defender Ruwen Filus! Ruwen has a highest world ranking of 18 and has won multiple medals with Team Germany including a silver medal at the World Championships!
In the video, I do some training with Ruwen, he teaches me how to defend and we take a look at the rubber he chops with… The Butterfly Feint Long 3. We also surprise him with the new Diode Pro blade to see how he gets on with it.
Enjoy!

Who's the GOAT defender? 🐐 Hope you enjoyed this one, like and subscribe for more 🔥
Joo see Hyuk is the GOAT defender. Period.
matsushita
Emil Paddlehands.
Ma Te
Joo se hyuk and emil
Great video! I would like to add that he also won a WTT Contender back in 2022. It had an amazing comeback in the men's singles finals against Lin Yun-yu. He came back from 3-0 behind, an insane match. Great defender and great variation of playstyle on the world stage.
Yeah, it was Contender Almaty, Kazakhstan
Turned into a meme in the TT community, every time both Lin and Ruwen fought again, people would remember that moment in the comments
@@PanchoGDMKWii damn Lin Yun Ju doesn't deserve that he has beaten him every time since then I believe😮💨
@@gab5012 yeah, not even a chance. 3-0 and 4-0
Thought the best chopper was Emil Paddlehands
I really like your comment
Now this is great TT content. Well done TTD. Great vid
Playing against Filus really Ruwens your stamina and endurance
It’s mad how consistently low the chops stay over the net and how deep they land on the table 🤯😅
Absolutely butchered!
totally agree mate!! He's amazzing that way!
would love to see mattias falck here. he has a very unique playing style and also forehand pips.
100% that would be great!
Absolutely love how Ruben plays, so impressive how quickly he can flip the bat and attack off that backhand!
He is my inspiration. Thank you for posting !
Our pleasure!
Great video. Ruwen is an inspiration to all pips players. I enjoy watching him play. Impressive! 👍😊
Joo Se Hyuk I feel was on another level altogether when he was in his prime. He'd still be up there in his defensive style worldwide if he was still active in the sport, but he has retired now..
Awesome. Bringing a whole variety of pro’s to play against rather than traditional reversed rubber combo. Loved it. Great forehands Dan. Ruwen nice bloke. All the German team are. 👍
Impressive to see how much time he has when he's approaching the ball, being able to make his choice until the latest possible moment
Nice video! Love the content🔥 Waiting for The Dane vs Ruwen Filus video as Dan once mentioned😉
yes !
Filus is an interesting, varied, unpredictable player, I love watching him play. Good luck, Ruwen!
Joo is still the world's best chopper
Great video! It seems like Ruwen Filus is a great defender and person. The last point was crazy
Its always so much fun to watch you guys play, with great commentating this is a blast 😊🎉
Thanks! 🙌
great modern and twiddler defender player, I enjoy watching him play, best
Always fun to watch Ruwen play.
100% so much variation!
not if you are behind a camera xD
Are you planning to release a full-fledged training course with Ruven?
That last rally was brilliant! Great video! 😁
The only point I won I was defending haha
I love the music when you was learning how to chop
What a pleasure to play with the current World’s Best Defender 👊
that rally at the end oh myyyyy
The Video we all have been waiting for
🙌🏓
Great video!!! Next video with Gionis!!!
Ok how about playing against Manika Batra? The long pips blocker is a popular style in some local leagues so it’d be interesting to see what she does
This would get someone really mad. Things may go wrong, a racket could hit the founder's head.
Awesome video !!
Ruwen matches are fun to watch.
Dane have such a great talent I love watching him playing
wow, he can twiddle fast! saw him go from chopping w/ BH, twiddle, to an attacking BH drive so fast. he's def a fun player to watch.
great rally in the end of the video whan you won the point, respect
i would love to see joo se hyuk on the table, great video ❤❤
The video I have been waiting for !!! Pips ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut !!!
Haha thanks Ray 🙏🏓
The music was great whilst Dan shows his chopping skills 😂
😅🤣
Nice video, Dan and co. I think it's great when you show the materials currently in use from your side and also the pros as swiftly as it was. Nice to have a different POV from a modern defender !
6:22 what was that laugh 😂😂
😅😅😅
Beutiful last point Dan!!!
Do a video with the Lebrun brothers please 😁
Great rally Dan
It is kinda funny how there are 7-8 points in every single video of yours that is "world class"😁
The difference between pros and semi pros is the ability to consistently be world class
That's the whole point, they are really world class ))
They use it when they play each other as well and they definitely are not. The word is just massively overused.
@@alexanderlubinets1134also world class at racket throwing 😅
Dan, you didn't ask about famous throw at the Singapore Smash tournament against Aruna 🙂 It was something unforgettable 🙂
Ruwen what a player 🤯
Awesome video! Yall should get luka mladenovic next for an even rarer style!
Great suggestion, because of your comment I just watched Luka play Edward Ly. That is a mad style, his Anti is insane! Some of the balls were absolutely loaded with spin. Great to see different styles at top level table tennis 🏓
Great video! As a chopper myself, I’ve always wondered what thickness of long pimples Ruwen uses?
World class
More chopping videos👍👍
Ruwen is maybe now the best def player, but just because of Joo Sea Hyuk isnt active anymore 😀
Nice 👍
Imagine Ruwen was Independent and would play Curl-P1...Most brutal backspin
Nice video! What racket was Filus using?
Ruwen plays a distinct hybrid style which is different from traditional defence. I guess some people will categorise him as 'defender' and some won't because he's quite aggressive.
My favourite. Ruwen wish to see you No. 1 someday
Glad you enjoyed the vid 🙌
very nice
nice video
I consider Feint Long III as a very secure long pip for placing balls on the table, but it's not the most difficult for the opponent. Options like TSP Curl P1, HellFire are more complicated
FL3 is a grippy pip. it can generate a surprising amount of its own spin
it doesn't have a lot of reversal like other LPs, but that in its own right can be confusing for opponents
not sure you would necessarily call it "safe" though, as its lack of reversal makes it more difficult to chop with - you're getting less assistance from the rubber
I would rather describe it as playing as close to a normal Rubber as possible with long Pips.
Curl P1 is a great option for modern defenders, but very different from Feint Long III. You need a different motion to make it work. Hellfire isn’t meant to defend away from the table. It’s more disruptive, less secure and almost impossible to generate your own spin, which is very well possible with FL III. For defending, it’s about all aspects of the game, not just one. I tried Hellfire, Tactics, Curl P1 and FL III. My choice is the latter for its Allround capabilities.
Now have Gionis on 🤣
To me, the current best chooper has to be Yuto Muramatsu. He barely plays internationally anymore, but he´s one of the strongest players in Bundesliga, which Ruwen is not. He´s much quicker, more flexible, has better reaction speed and plays more aggressively.
Still of course, Ruwen is great as a player!
I remember how this guy threw the racket to the opponent
Upload a tutorial on pendulum serve
I always your video Dan 🏓🏓👍👍
Thanks!
Ayup Dan...i was wondering have you ever considered a TTD GED TO THA CHOPPEEEERRRRR element to your channel...I'd love to see how one of the team get on against that Polish Lad MURAW table Tennis.....the lad is an awesome chopper and plays some amzing through the leg shots mid rally....you could invite other UK choppers etc.....anyway congrats on your WR and looking forward to season 3 of TTDSL
What's the thickness used on the Feint 3?
👌
get to the choppa!
Dan, did you try to lift the chops with your backhand?
World's second best defender, because Joo se Hyuk still is way better if you see him train
Is he still playing?
Will there be a one set showdown with ruwen?
5:03 Still better chopping skills than Emil from Ponfinity :)
How do you create „power from the ground“ with chopping?
In topspin, you can push off the ground with your legs to create power, but in chopping you don‘t go up but down, so do you just use your arm in chopping or how do you create power from your legs for chopping?
Please play with the best defender of all time Joo Sae Hyuk 😢😢😢 pleaseeeee and tell him i love him and i played table tennis because of him
A god😮😅
And what's about Wang Yang?
do you know which one he use for feint ( ox , 0.5 , 1.1 or 1.3 ) ?
1.1 💪
He looks a lot like Glen Powell
I feel like the 'defender' term doesn't quite actualize things. When I play 'defenders' I feel like I'm the one defending with my loop!!
I feel what is often not mentioned is the sponge thickness used. This has a big impact on pimpled rubbers and anti-spin.
What sponge thickness does Ruwen use?
Hey there. He uses 1.1mm
1.1mm
Please make a video with gionis!
What is the Sponge width of ruwen filus?
As I prefer chopping so I want to shift to long pips & believe that ox rubbers are not good for chopping. Kindly guide about Sponge width ofRuwen's feint long 3
where's the best place to buy his paddle?
Great video, but I missed the point what‘s on forehand side?
Thanks :) Ruwen uses Tenergy 05 Hard on the forehand
@@TableTennisDaily and what blade does he use? Thanks :)
Did he throw his paddle at you too?
I dont see Gionis in this video?
Koki Niwa...
Show this to Emil from Pongfinity
was Dan chopping w/ his normal inverted rubbers or long pimples? chopping w/ inverted rubbers is a lot harder than chopping w/ long pimples (like the one Ruwen was using)?
Nah that were definitely pimples. So they switches blades or so.
Which blade does Filus use actually?
Discontinued butterfly Joo Sae Hyuk blade.
What blade is Ruwen Filus currently using? Joo Saehyuk blade?
Discontinued butterfly Joo Sae Hyuk blade.
@@okeyboy99so many defensive players love the JSH blade - I can‘t imagine why they discontinued it 😢
I would love to buy one
@@phxblt1856 Same, probably because Joo was sponsored by a Korean brand Nexy.
Huy cắt nên xem😂😂😂
Which blade He uses please? Thanks
Discontinued butterfly Joo Sae Hyuk blade.
Wang yang is the best chopper.
The world needs more choppers!
Emil Haaland is the GOAT!!!
Any idea which blade he is using ? Also why he is not using the ilius s rubber ?
He‘s using a special blade - a Diode especially made for staff players and not available for us mere mortals anymore. You could order it from BTY Japan a couple of years ago iirc, but not anymore.
And Ilius is more of a close to the table, blocking oriented LP rubber with very different capabilities compared the FL III. Not really a great fit for Filus playing style.
He uses the discontinued Butterfly Joo Sae Hyuk blade, they won't mention it since he is a sponsored player.
Play eleven table tennis plis😢
Worlds best defender is one and only korean joo sae hyuk
Is Filus using an Ox Feint 3 or a sponged one?
1.1mm
Hey David yeah he is using 1.1
I know this is an idiotic comment. But when he chops, it looks like the spin he puts on the ball would be the same way as topspin for the returner? Why is it harder to return with topspin?
Again, stupid question but someone humour me please!
I’m surprised he didn’t throw his racket at Dan
Wdym
Does Filus use tenergy05 hard or tenergy05?
T05 Hard on the fh
