Kinks top 10 UK hit single in 1965, written by Ray Davies, which appeared on their album The Kink Kontroversy that same year. Stated by Ray Davies as being about freedom. It’s a song about escaping something”.

We just finished watching OLD DADS with Bill Burr , and when this song came on at the ending I suddenly found myself singing it and remembering all the the words after all these years ! My wife was dumbfounded to say the least , hahahahaha !!!
That’s where I heard it for the first time!! Love the movie AND the song!! ❤❤
Same here, just finished watching Old Dad's and started singing "I'm an Ape-man". Wonderful songs of our childhood.
Same here! Except my wife is not here. Had to look up the song.👍
Me too
Hahahahaha so I am
I wasn’t alive when this was released but lyrically this hits so hard in 2023, the world is so messed up. Thank you Kinks, these classics will live on forever.
I agree I was born in 74, and I don't want to die in a nuclear war, I want to sit in a tree and eat bananas all day.
Let’s Hope Russia doesn’t fail no Nuke November…

Ray ... effing ... Davies 🎉 👍🏾😎
THE best!
stole the tune
One of the greatest songs in rock history. A wonderful melody, and lyrics so stunning and so timeless.
for the melody then they must thanks a French singer
Amazing how many songs from the 60s and 70s are more relevant today than yesterday. Absolutely brilliant!

What a great song and what an amazing band!!This song is more relevant than ever!!!
"Reject humanity, become m o n k e."
-Ray Davies
I can pick up one of those round plastic containers of 60 pieces of Excel gum with my toes. I am fairly well-equipped for monke, I think.
I am going on 62 y/o, and The Kinks have been in my life as long as I have been alive. Their music still holds up and is relevant today as it was then. Thank you for a lifetime of musical masterpieces!
I’m 73 still addicted since 64!

@@lannydante9390 ....72......a whole new challenge ,dealing with aging .
Thankfully we still have music to keep us (slightly) sane.....
The Kinks were ahead of their time with both their music and their MTV style video clips.

@@SteveMorris-zb1ug I'll make a search... on you tube i'm guessing... Oh and thanks for the tip.
This video is dope!!!! Man continues to regress. This light-hearted filtering of that is so welcome. Now all I have to do is take it off repeat 😯😆👍🏾
I was a teenager when this song was released.Never the less, I agree with your comment. The lyrics are relevant in 2023.Kind of frightening.Attitudes from the 1970s are the same as today, yet those trusted to do what the people want have avoided taking action in that fifty year time frame.
Saw these guys live at the L.A. Forum on the "One For The Road" tour. To this day still one of the best shows I ever saw. Happy Anniversary, thanks for all the great music, GOD SAVE THE KINKS!
I saw them at the US Festival 1982. Ray Davies leading the crowd in “day-o” Banana Boat Song chants.
Lola vs Powerman and the Moneygoround is a masterpiece of an album.
I guess you could say that about most of what the Kinks have done.
You gotta love those coats!
Absolute facts and I wish I had one of those coats 😢
One of my favourite albums. About 50 years old. My fav track must be strangers.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
These Afghan coats......smelled a bit sometimes.
This video is perfect. The scene on the bench, with someone in a ratty ape costume is simply sublime.
That's. John Dalton in the ape costume 🤓 RIP 🇬🇧
He’s still alive
john gosling
I've been dreaming of this upload for years and years ... Cheers!

I first heard this song as a child in the 80s on the film "Club Paradise" with Robin Williams
I swiped through all the comments to say this, but you beat me to it
Heard this song at the end of Old Dads on Netflix love this song it just makes me feel better. I wish they made music like this now.
This popped into my head this morning and decided to play it. My goodness, the sentiments in it could have been written yesterday 🙀😻❤
We all are apemen. Always remember this track. 74 now.😅😅😅😅
RIP John "Apeman" Gosling :(
Apeman forever❤😂
Brilliant, observant lyrics as usual.
The man in the ape suit is John Gosling, piano player extraordinaire, who passed away this weekend. God Save The late, great John The Baptist and God Save The Kinks!
😢❤❤❤😢❤❤❤

Beautiful Truth form the fathers of punk.
Yeah, the Beatles and the Stones were always considered as "boring old farts" amongst us Punks, whereas The Kinks were always viewed as Well Respected Men. Long live The Kinks!
@@ForARide I can't say there aren't songs by the stones and beatles I love. I love the kinks tho, almost anything they did was great.... God knows the world would be unbearable beyond what it already is without a huge variety of great sounding music.
@@ForARide Is that so ? maybe for those in the U.S. which the Kinks finally managed to conquer with mid 70s mediocrity.
For the rest of the world the Kinks sadly became passé after 1970. Anyway ,who cares what "us punks" thought about those "boring old farts" ?......All those "punks" will now gladly play Beatles and (old) Stones.
Thank you for the music 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵🎶
Thank you, The Kinks! My mother show me your record, and since then I never stop to listen!

I love this song so much, The Kinks have been a huge soundtrack for my life!!! Love Apeman, have played The Kinks to our three sons and they love them, especially Apeman and Superman! I love that Ray Davies had to re-record his part so it didn’t sound like “the air pollution is f***ing up my eyes so it wouldn’t sound like f**k, it still sounds like fing, lol!!
if you like this you might like my brothers music. His name is Stu Morris
truly wonderful lyrics
What a witty and truly prophetic song! The Kinks were way up high in hit making and we're synonymous with the 60's!!
I'd forgotten about this song til I heard it at the end of Bad Dads! Brought back a lot of memories!
great musicvideo, absolut supersong, ❤
Thank The Sun for PLANTS 💚🌞
Happy Birthday John Dalton born on May 21, 1943. He is a British bass guitar player, best known as a member of the Kinks in 1966 and between 1969 and 1976, replacing original member Pete Quaife. He played with The Kinks throughout the remainder of 1969 and into the 1970s and appeared playing bass on such notable songs as "Victoria", "Lola", "Apeman", "Celluloid Heroes", and "Supersonic Rocket Ship". - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dalton_(musician)

@2:15 "I look out the window but I can't see the skies; the air pollution is a-fuckin-up my eyes, I want to get out of this city alive - and make like an apeman"
2:14 That looks like Whitestone Pond in Hampstead Heath, North London. In the mid-eighties, I used to cycle past it twice a day.
Went to a concert where the Kinks were supposed to play...Sydney Aus ..late 70's....they didn't show...damn it !! Peter Frampton was playing and the place was filled with Frampton look a likes !! UGH !!!! Shoulda been a GREAT night , but we were missing these GENIUSES !!!!!

After watching a reaction video by ‘Rob Squad Reactions’ a couple o days ago, I can’t get this song outta my mind! 😆
I hadn’t heard it in decades, so I’m catchin’ up! 😆
I had 8-track with ‘Apeman’ and a bunch of ‘different’ story telling songs… I wish I still had it.

I hope Bill Burr cut a check!!! Timeless music
I saw my first Kinks gig in 1967. It was a package tour with The Tremeloes and The Herd at Bournemouth Winter Gardens. I couldn't hear a thing, due to the screaming girls.
Brillant fun
❤
Fox! Rock's Czar! Rock n Roll!
Yes
brilliant
Wow seen a comment like just seen Old Dads then played the song ,made my night
I like that all the primates have a fur coat. The Ape has human hands...is that a statement, or just for convenience?
This song always reminds me of Last Man On Earth 😂
They had the music, we have the crisis
The human race never change 😢
🤘🏻
Watched club paradise and realized how well this song holds up in today climate
I am only 33 and I just heard it on a movie and I had to find it I don't know how I haven't heard it before but I like it
