Im a barkan method devotee - i love other styles, but the barkan method is what i connect most with, and the first time I've found true peace in my life ❤
Just for anyone who’s interested Jimmy, Bikram’s “circus clowns” comment was in the April 2000 Yoga Journal and the article was titled “Yoga’s Bad Boy.”(The only copy of Yoga Journal I ever held on to.) Your memory of the comment is right on!
Amen!! - “Why make the judgment???” Over the last few years I have found myself gravitating towards yogis who have this mindset. It always amazes me (and blows my mind at the same time) when I come across someone who tells me I’m wrong for practicing Hot Yoga.
Thankyou Jimmy it’s so important to understand and respect the different approaches to yoga. We were just discussing this today, the Yoga ego “my way is the best way” . There is separation (the opposite if Yoga)
I fell in love with bikram. Especially the 26.2. It feels so ”right” and it is the only time I get that synchronisity after. Why? I have no idea. I just do it. Go to a class and then I’m so happy and feeling of flying. I started 10 years ago. Did it soooo much. BUT. Then I had a paus for 5 years. I feel so bad. But life happend. And i was so sad and grieved. I missed it. But as synchronisity happend and life unfolded, my path was moving to a sailingboat. Lived on it for 4,5years. No electricity and no water. Hippiestyle.Life became yoga? But now, since a year, i live in a house. Just started bikram again. And i was so happily chocked. The body and muscles REMEMBERED! I havnt forgot. The body remembers! Aww as I said in comments before. Im in LOVE! (With me, with the teachers, with the world!)❤
I have done hot yoga for 13 years and love it. All our local Las Vegas studios have set series of different sorts and hot vinyasa flow classes. I’m not a big fan of the Bikram series for a variety of reasons, but I don’t knock it. I’ve taken many Bikram classes, especially when I travel, including London, Rome, Santiago, and Boston. Knowing the series and dialogue makes it accessible in any language. When in Ft. Lauderdale for a conference a few years ago, I had a great class at Jimmy’s studio. 🙏🏻
Great topic! Just like there are many different styles of exercise there are different styles of yoga. Find what works for you and be happy that others have found the style that works for them. Humans will always judge & it takes an enlightened mind to accept others differences.
We’re so lucky to have the diversity of styles from which to choose. The lineages, history and even geography caused divergences but collectively I think all yoga is still a union of mind, body and soul whether you are Bikram high or Barkan low. A little respect goes a long way.
Totally agree with you. Hopefully more yogis out in the world will think this way. First then started yoga, I felt all yogis was the same, no matter which typ off yoga you practice. But pretty soon I get to hear another side, people criticizing yoga styles. So go me, it’s easy. Dose a ball player, for example tennis player critics a football player of a paddle player critics a squash player. No they don’t And it’s exactly the same with dancers, they don’t critics other dancers, dancing different typ off dance. So like you say, just don’t do it, if you don’t like it🤩👌🙏
Powerful topic. It seems people disagree for a multitude of reasons. Disagreeing with the Bikram approach is likely from a lack of knowledge or information. People hear things and because of their life’s experience interpret the words differently. So they draw a conclusion what they know is right and everything else must be wrong.

People who say that, just don’t understand Yoga, they’re misinformed
Astonishing for sure!! 🙏❤️🙏
