I was trying to remember this poem and I'm so glad I found it. I agree wholeheartedly. I've known several bikers and they've been lovely guys but people just don't bother to look past appearances. It's really sad.

When I ride... I ride alone with God at the controls. Please look out for us. I ware bright colors so you see me. I make lots of noise so you hear me, but when I ride by hospitals, schools, and residential areas... I cut my RPM's down the best I can to respect those who are around me. All I ask is that judgment for one person isn't the same for someone else. I ride responsibly so drivers should show the same respect.

My husband has always rode. He joined the army at 18 in 1974. When he was stationed in Korea he saved nearly every penny. When he came home he got him baby, a brand new 1982 Sturgis FXB. He drove it from Midland TX. to Ft. Stewart, GA. The first time he took it out someone pulled in front of him. He was lucky to survive. The insurance totaled the bike. It was rebuilt and now 2 years ago he gave it to our son for graduation from MMI, where my Hubby is Chief instuctor.

I am guilty of this very thing. I saw this biker, dressed head to toe as such. His vest bore the rockers of a prospect. Once I saw this I knew his life had taken a bad turn somewhere. As I looked at him I proceeded to make my own assumptions of who he was and how many things he was going to do wrong. I asked myself how can a person so young be drawn to this. There are so many questions that will be left unanswered because I will never get to ask my brother. He was killed on 31 Mar 15. Not in prison, or by another biker. He was killed on the freeway when a person driving a truck never saw him as they switched lanes forcing him into the rear tires of a semi. It wasn't until after his death that I saw just how many lives he touched.
One this side and the next you are always my brother.

+MJinAZ You evidently missed read my comment. I was fully acknowledging the fact that I was wrong about my outlook on his chosen life. I had the luxury of spending some time with his MC, and came to realize that the majority of people have them pegged for something they are not. Now that I was civil. He was my real brother, is that defined enough for you, or do we need to meet so I can further help you comprehend the definition of brother?

Great video. Remember riders (and I FIRMLY believe this) LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES! I just about pulled out one dark night on a bike,,, until I heard him. I ride a 2007 VTX 1300 with loud Vance & Hines pipes. None riders may think because I'm a female that I just want to be noticed with the loud noise, when in actuality, I just want to be able to ride for many more years to come. Get the pipes, it may be your best investment.

A while ago a guy was tailgating me on my bike. I pulled him over and asked his wife to wind the window down. Then I asked her "do you want your husband to come home safe to you tonight"? "Of course" she says. I told her that her husband owes it to my wife to let me come home safe to her too. And asked her if them being were they are going two seconds sooner is more important than me getting home safe to my wife. Her answer was no, its not more important. They both apologised then I told them the last words from my wife that morning were "please come home safe to me". Please think about that next time your driving. Is two seconds more important than someone going home to their family?

As a car driver I have to say this video is very well done...and the fact that it's very true nowadays is INCREDIBLY tragic. People in cages are just too preoccupied with fidgeting with their air conditioning, CD players, etc. to give a damn about anyone else. Most American cars are automatic too...give people a stick shift and see how much more attention they pay then!
Hell...I drive a cage myself and the way people drive in my area even I worry about other cars on the road.

I watch for bikers. You are right, these college students on crotch rockets are a huge problem. I drove an RV in rainy, windy weather in New Orleans one time. These people on these crotch rockets were zooming in and out of my lane sometimes only feet ahead of me as well as in and out of my blind spots. If they slipped or stopped fast in front of me, there would have been nothing I could do. These people left me no escape route in case something went wrong zooming in and out.

A prime example of what I mean- a few years ago my friend Amber passed a car on a country road. What she didn't realize was that in the other lane over the hill, coming towards her, was our friend Derek on his motorcycle.
She hit him. Derek's arm went through her windshield and was torn off, then he was thrown about 30 feet, breaking both his legs and his neck. Amber sat there holding him as he lay dying.
Oh, and Derek just got back from Iraq that week, too.

We've come so close to being hit by someone in a car it sometimes makes me afraid to get on the bike. I've heard them say, " I never saw you". We saw them. Just as we saw the girl doing 80 on the freeway with a cell phone in one hand and a icecream cone in the other driving with her knees while she drifted in our lane so close she nearly brushed against my leg. God was on our side that day, it was the horn on the bike and our yells that got her attention. We came 3 inches from death that day

My Dad (not the afore-mentioned father, but my step-Dad) is a truckie. Because of the irresponsibility of some truckies, he gets tarred with the same brush ... people don't seem to notice the cars that stop short in front of him, and don't realise how long it takes a truck to stop.
Same diff. Bikies have a bad rap, truckies have a bad rap, yet most of the trouble is other drivers on the road who don't think!

yeah, it may bother you a bit when they ride by your house, but think the next time you see a motorcycle on the freeway, don't tailgate them. give them a bit more room. you not see past the image you have been bred to fear, but bikers are some of the most honset people i know. in every aspect.

I love the video and have shared it. I'm not a biker, but I'm glad to hear the loud bikes. Loud bikes let people in noise insulated vehicles know you are there. When sharing the road with bikers try to note how many there are. If you make a lane change, be sure that you have accounted for each one. Use turn signals ahead of time and look twice. A moment of carelessness can literally cost someone an arm and a leg.

Seeing that bikers always look both ways (since we are invisible to drivers) and he should have seen you coming.

You hit the nail right on the head with your first two sentences.
THAT,.... is exactly why riders must accept responsibility, if you elect to do any act in a manner that is more dangerous that it's alternative, you bear the responsibility for that act.
If you elect to sail through a hurricane in a 100, 000 ton tanker that's probably quite reasonable, but if you elect to do it in a 9 foot dinghy, you must take your share of the responsibility. You should also do things to protect yourself.

On Sept. 3rd,2011 I was rear ended by a drunk driver the first words she said was "I didn't see you" not only was she drunk she was talking on her phone. I was a lucky man that night as I got to walk away though in a great deal of pain I survived, the Dr. says I will live with this pain the rest of my life because of a drunk on a phone. It's been 5 months now off work and hoping to return soon. Please take up the fight in your state's to get cellphone use banned in moving vehicles.

A friend of mine said that in order to survive in the traffic, you have to treat all cars like wild moose - huge and totally unpredictable. He´s survived thus far.

Job well done.....Life is to short to worry about what the whiners and complainers or people that don't understand what the freedom and love for riding a motorcycle does for you, sit back on your couchmobile and let life pass you by.

Watch more carefully and be mindful of your driving habits always look before you pull out at intersections. When I was 18 my husband and I were in the car he was driving and he hit a motorcycle driver thank God he was not seriously injured that day. Since then I have always been mindful of taking a second look for motorcyclist because of that day I know the importance of stop, look and listen all too well. These are the basics we learn as a kid so we should always be mindful when driving as it could save a life and we always want to do that! God Bless!!!

@twztdprincess Thank you! Bikers are the most down to earth people I know. Im glad I know alot of them. It dont matter what the problem is, call a biker and I bet he/she is there asap. Different breed I guess. They say people need a reason to do good deeds, a biker just needs directions to the place. Again thank you.

People don't pay attention period. When u drive it comes with risk. More when driving a bike. No one runs over bikers on purpose, but I sold mine after 3 Rd time I almost got run down. I like the alternating head lights on bikes, I see them first. Good video for a reminder to pay attention
