I wonder what relationship the title refers to. A May-December relationship isn't just a younger person in a romantic relationship with an older one, it's a specific type of relationship where the younger person (May) is roughly early middle age and the older person (December) is elderly. It originally referred specifically to a thirty or forty-something woman, either an "old maid" or divorcee entering into a relationship with an elderly, usually affluent, man. The marriages were often marriages of convenience, a transactional relationship in which the woman would get access to resources and the older man would get a partner to take care of him in old age. There appear to be two relationships in this trailer, at least. The 36-year-old school teacher who molested a 13-year-old boy whom she later married, and 20 some years later is still married to. And it's strongly implied that there is a romantic attraction between the actress playing the teacher as a younger woman (Natalie Portman) and the now middle-aged former teacher. Which leaves me wondering if there's an actual elderly person involved here, or is "May December" being used to refer to any relationship with a significant age difference? Also, the first half of the trailer obscures the Portman character's face, which makes me wonder if this is something that happens in the movie, or is a stylistic choice on the part of the company that cut the trailer.
Okay this movie is kinda based on a real story. Why are we wanting to glorify a pedophile? Or at least have this make it sound like they are in the gray as it is in the trailer? “I already have an idea what it must have felt like…sneaking around with you.” WOAH. Pump the brakes. Are we equating an extramarital temptation with an adult to co-ercing a 12 year old BOY who looks wayy older than his actual age? Compare and contrast right? The only similarity between an extra marital affair and child abused IS the “sneaking around”. Given affairs are more relatable, why would one want to draw a parallel to child abuse? I LOVE Portman and Moore, but I can’t get behind dialogue that is specifically designed to “neutralize a harsh reality” by drawing a parallel to something relatable like “sneaking around”. looks interesting. makes me think of this movie I watched on ifc years ago about a teacher dating a middle school boy, I've tried to find it and can't, does anyone know what I am talking about ?
Was it called To Die For, from 1995, with Nicole Kidman and Joaquin Phoenix...?
@@rangergrrrl no it wasn't to die for, good movie though. this one seemed like it was made in the early 2000s and it was more like a slow moving, dark indie movie. its so weird because i've tried searching it and I can never find it, and I feel weird entering "adult teacher sleeps with middle schooler" in my search engine lol
Dang. Thought that would be it. Can’t recall any actors etc? Good luck tracking it down…
@@rangergrrrl thanks I am half convinced I slipped into another dimension where the movie doesn't exist lol because its a pretty unique plot that I bet has only been done a few times so its so weird I haven't been able to find it. I cant recall the actors either but I think the woman had short hair? now I'm more curious cause I can't find it lol but thanks for trying
Perhaps you think of "Notes on a Scandal" (2006) with Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench?@@lotusxoxoxo

“I already have an idea what it must have felt like…sneaking around with you.”
WOAH.
Nahh why minimize --> desensitize = normalize Mary Kay Letourneau’s actions.
