- One of my subscribers said it would be cool if I covered this classic tune, so here you go :) I made this in Famitracker with the N163 chip, then pulled out the audio into my DAW to add stereo and some EQ. I used no synths or samplers other than Famitracker.

1:23 has to be one of (if not THE) best arrangement of the chorus i've ever heard. Of course, the hole song is a masterpiece, but man, that moment...

And it's hard to believe that this would be possible with the Famicon. Even though it's an expansion chip... but still.
Actually, there's quite a lot of samples going on here... just look at that dpcm! Also, I don't actually know but the creator might have possibly created the n163 waveforms from samples too

This did not disappoint, loved it! I think the N163 is easily the most powerful expansion chip (for the famicom). It's really amazing what kind of sounds can be produced with it. Some people say VRC6 or VRC7 is the best. Nah, I say N163 is where it's at! Also, I somehow managed to snag the first view. That *NEVER* happens! :O
Haha nice :) With the N163, you can make very FM-like sounds, but also you can make great sawtooth wave sounds that you can't easily do with the VRC7.

Yeah, definitely. The N163 coupled with the 2A03, AFAIK, can have the 4 channels + DPCM the 2A03 has, plus 8 Namco channels (I think its eight, not sure, since most people only use up to 6 N163 channels). Counting everything, that makes it into a whopping 13 channels, just like a Sega Genesis! The VRC6, however, is more reminiscent of the SNES, since it has eight channels (again, coupled with the 2A03 + DPCM channels and the three extra VRC6 channels), but has a already built-in sawtooth wave, something that no chip has. So yeah, they both have their charm IMO. lol
Dixie Chix i agree with you, the N163 chip is the most advanced exp soundchip used in a famicom, it could do 8 channel sound at 4bit wave table syntheses, it’s comparible to the snes soundchip.

Megaman 2 Dr.Wily stage 1-2 is always and forever will be the best theme whether it's original or having a variaty of remix.
Generally I have mixed feelings on N163 stuff in famitracker. I know it's technically playable on a famicom, but somehow you normally tend to lose the 8-bit aesthetic when you rely too much on the Namco channels.
Somehow, you avoided that entirely here. You can still hear the Namco channels doing their thing, but I think the fact that the melody is mostly in the main channels manages to keep the aesthetic intact, while also having the benefits of using the Namco channels.
So, it's a few years after your upload, but congrats!

Sounds amazing. What sound configuration did you use to play this in the video? I've tried changing mine for a while but it just doesn't sound the same way in my Famitracker.
Thanks! I wanted to add stereo and a touch of EQ, so I exported each FamiTracker channel to WAV and pulled them into my DAW.
