I feel like this could’ve been an anthology film simply focused on Captain Spauldings Museum, with captain Spaulding telling tales of monsters and madmen as he leads tourists through his attraction
In a way, the film does act like an anthology in one narrative. First is Captain Spaulding’s Museum of Monsters & Madmen, second is The Firefly House, and then Dr. Satan’s Lair.
Focusing on Dr. Satan would have been a good choice, the best parts of the film all revolve around him with Sid and his horror ride and the ending maze; great stuff but sadly not the plot of the film.
BIG SAME. i saw some dude ? like fight with him on twitter abt it and like lmao .... it REALLY is just a movie. i took this movie as like rob trying to make a B horror movie instead of a REAL like i guess ? mainstream movie and that's why i personally enjoy the tribute to the idea. vs TDR where he has more focus on better everything bdfb
swanlungs. It seems like this is one of those movies that don’t really take themselves seriously which could work out in two ways professionally good or unprofessionally take a fall it essentially had both of those aspects it had its good moments and some bad ones not my favorite movie but it’s a good one I understand the hate love relationship with the film
Watching Corpses now is not the same as when it came out as the horror genre was lacking so it was something that was original, gory, entertaining and fun. It was before Saw so to me it was a very shocking throwback to 70s/90s horror tropes but with a funnier dark attitude. It's still my favorite Zombie film.
I was more emotionally invested over the fact many of the cast-members are no longer with us than the movie itself. It made me look on IMDb and come to find the cast listing is severely lacking quite a few actors.
I remember reading a news story about Rob Zombie complaining about a skate park near his house being too noisy and demanding the town close it. In real life he's a crotchety old man who yells at kids to get off his lawn.
Yeah, rest in peace Sid, one minute he would scare you by acting psycotic, then the next he was giving inspiring Speach about never giving up and fallow your dreams.
This is the only Rob Zombie film I actually like (well, love) because it’s so insane but you make some very valid points which I hadn’t thought of before!
Rob Zombie has appropriately described his own style as "Hellbilly". He actually does have a talent for visual flair, if his writing and directing skills are subpar.
Nothing but trouble is a seriously underrated gem !!! That train fixins cart that goes around the table is the real deal !! I can't say the same about those "boiled hotdogs" hahaha !! Big fan of those old school Hawaiian Punch cans tho !! Now I gotta go rewatch it haha
I will say, although the movie isn’t great, the scenes between Captain Spaulding and the driver are really fun. And, the set design is brilliant. So, although I will fully admit the filmmaking is incredibly clunky, many of the barely connected scenes are very good on their own. Altogether, the completely inhuman dialogue, strange locations, nonsensical actions, and jumble of references turn into something at least entertaining
I saw this in theaters in high school when it came out. I thought it was mediocre. Then I watched it again a couple years ago with my wife who immigrated from China. So she had never seen anything close to that shit ever. She was mesmerized and baffled at the same time. And weirdly enough, she kept watching. It wasn’t scary in the least to her, which is not good because she scares so easily.
Christ I love this movie. It's the film I've seen enough times that I can quote it from memory (my parents did not give a fuck what we watched). I adore the psychodelic transitional effects, the non-sequitor moments, the strange short-lived characters. Hell, I still quote that 20-second bit in the middle of the film, "You don't have to go looking to find hell. You in it. This is hell." Devils Rejects was a fantastic film, but I thought it lacked some of the otherworldliness of the first. HO1000C was a novel horror film that, to me at least, still holds up as a fascinating relic of film history.
Secret Spacker feel like for the devils rejects the producers like sat down rob zombie and we’re a bit like ‘ok, so we want to make this sequel, but think we’re going to actually have some consistent story this time’ and so was kid of forced the reign in the amazing ridiculousness that’s seen at the end of 1000 corpses. But still managed to make a great movie.
this actually makes me like the movie more. All slasher movies are ridiculous, you kinda know that going into it... it's almost like trying to analyze a coyote/roadrunner cartoon.
I feel like this film would have been better as an anthology movie. Three separate stories with Spaulding connecting them all with his side-show attraction.
Man I love your stuff I find it so entertaining, I find myself watching your reviews and everything more than anything else keep up the great work, and thank you for all your hard work and all u provide!!!
I actually got to meet Bill Moseley, I was pushing carts at the store I work at right as he pulled up, funnily enough, I didn't even recognize him at first, i saw his name on his jacket and it still didn't click, he came back to tell me who he was and we took a picture, I was screaming on the inside in embarrassment
Great review!! So many treats on Halloween from my favorite youtubers and no treats yet!! I hope you have a Happy Halloween!! And dont be sorry. I heard what happened and Im so sorry you had to go through that. Youre amazing.
Honestly I use to dislike Rob Zombie but I watched this movie one night and I really liked it I was actually shocked at how much I liked it Rob Zombies vision is so much better in his own universe for me it works really well This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Texas Chainsaw Massacre combined with Rob Zombies dialogue and weird visuals he adds Really solid and entertaining movie
"BLANK shows us is whole hand of cards at the start of the game but we're playing Clue!" Summarizes this movie perfectly, but that's an awesome analogy on its own. I'll be quoting it in the future for sure! Love your content Doctor Wolfula! Keep it going!
If I’m not mistaken, Doctor Satan also isn’t original in his aesthetic. Although this isn’t a horror movie reference, I’m almost certain he is based on the homunculi from Warhammer 40 K. He is a deathly pale aged individual who performs horrific surgeries with robotic extra arms and has a breathing apparatus. Personally, I really enjoyed the weird references, but I’ve been a movie made out of references to other stuff combined with good set design isn’t necessarily the most distinctive or cohesive of a production
this film is dedicated to actor dennis fimple who played uncle hugo here and also appeared in king kong 1976, the creature from black lake, the specter of edgar allan poe, the evictors, The Shadow of Chikara (which has a couple dozen other names) and the giant of thunder mountain among many others.
This is the only film he done I actually enjoyed until the rabbit tunnels come into play with the red lobster 🦞 monster it doesn’t feel like the same movie after that .
Holy shit after all these years I never realized that was Chris Hardwick from Talking Dead! I have seen this movie dozens of times over the years.. wow.
I watched this movie a couple of days ago. I watched largely because of Captain Spaulding, the HHH house based on it. As you you said, it's far from the best movie ever, but I still found it fairly entertaining, ultimately I've become oddly fond of it for some reason. One criticism I have however, it that seemed like it couldn't decide on weather it was a horror-comedy or straight horror.
Everyone’s got their opinions but I personally think there’s nothing wrong with any of Rob Zombies movies. They aren’t going to be trailblazers like The Shining or The Omen or something and they’re sure as fuck not gonna give you the meaning to life but if you go in with the mindset that you’re about to watch trash, weird blood soaked trash, you’ll find Rob Zombies movies are wildly entertaining and visually stunning to look at. The man did claim when he was in White Zombie to be “white trash on acid” and that’s what he gives ya.
Love the first hour of the movie!! Then is just goes totally off the path into disappointment!! I wish they kept Captain Spaulding & his shop the main story!!
Sid was actually featured in a music video and made appearances at Twiztid's con. Twiztid is two rappers in face paint and former label mates of the Insane Clown Posse. Happy Hallowicked 🎃👻👹🕸🎃⛏🔪⚰️
Haha the only thing i agree with here is that this movies plot feels contrived. Other than that, it does a great job of making you feel how helpless and doomed the victims are.
Think you might be taking this movie and thus your review just a tad bit too seriously. The editing style was a deliberate artistic choice meant to disorientate the viewers and kinda put them into the frantic mindset of the victims and the scattered frenetic perspectives of the Firefly family.
There’s a smaller channel called “Max Mira” that completely ripped off this video (even going as far to steal your intro music). I just figured you should know!
I really enjoyed House of 1000 Corpses. Probably because 1) I enjoy Rob Zombie's music, and 2) The title alone clued me in that I shouldn't take the movie too seriously and just have fun.
I keep hearing the original version of the opening song on the radio station that plays the music at my job and every time that song comes on it makes me want to watch a Dr. Wolfula video
There was a deleted scene in The Devil's Rejects where Dr. Satan does appear in a hospital but supposedly dies from a heart attack after killing a nurse by strangely so tightly his fingers punctured through her throat and bleeds to death
I absolutely loved the first five minutes, the DVD menu with Captain Spaulding and a couple of other scenes but other than that it made no sense whatsoever
I still really enjoy this movie. Although I do say Devil's Rejects just made it 50x better and as did 3 In Hell from Devil's Rejects. Things do have to start somewhere.

I feel like this could’ve been an anthology film simply focused on Captain Spauldings Museum, with captain Spaulding telling tales of monsters and madmen as he leads tourists through his attraction
That would’ve been epic.
With one final surprise at the end about where his tasty fried chicken comes from, I assume?
Kinda like a rob zombie version of creepshow?
In a way, the film does act like an anthology in one narrative. First is Captain Spaulding’s Museum of Monsters & Madmen, second is The Firefly House, and then Dr. Satan’s Lair.
