Hey joejunior1974 - thanks for the kind words! Yeah the chain kit is one of the best things I've done on the bike. I'm working through the video editing process now, so the first chain kit video will be posted before too long. As you know it's an involved project, so there's a lot to work through :)
Now it needs a springer front end (will add some caster and help with the wobble) and a carb conversion!! Check out a crossbones seat, might be more comfortable then the one you got.
This is awesome man, you read my mind. Might have to try this just for the hell of it. If anyone asks why, they have no sense of adventure or massoquism. LOL
Lower your rear tire pressure. Softer springs on your seat. Have ridden hard tails for years. Mostly XS650's. Would never do it with a 107. Use a second jam nut. It removes the backlash and keeps the vibration from destroying the threads. Have done a few chain conversions on Yamaha Road Stars. A chain is a nice mod.
There's a few secrets you could use to make a hardtail less miserable; lower that air pressure in the rear tire 5-10 psi, whatever you are comfortable with. The correct tire makes a big difference as well. A fall, chunky tire is going to ride better than a thinner, shorter tire, and last but not least; a springer seat will act as its own little bit of suspension.
My first bike was a 72 shovel in a 48 wishbone rigid frame so I’ve ridden a real hard tail. My current 17 RG I wanted to lower so I got a 1” lower kit that would not work bc it contacted the left hand lower collar on the shock. I next got a 2” lowering kit and it works but I drag my kickstand all the time and it rides like a hard tail. I wish I could just lower 1”, but buying legend shocks is expensive!
I don't think I'd ride a hardtail at any speed over about 45 MPH due to the lack of traction in corners. Fun to tool around at an event. I guess I could just crank down on the adjustment on my FatBob to get some of the sensation.
And here I am about to drop $1,500. On a set of Ohlins piggy backs for my 08 FATBOB. 70 years old and Louisiana roads keep me away from a hard tail,LOL
Hey Chachiboy72 - my buddy had that same bike! I think it has two shocks down at the bottom of the frame parallel to the ground? If so these same parts might work well. You’d need to double-check the mounting bosses to make sure the width is sufficient. I don’t sell the parts but I’m happy to provide input and help you figure out strut length, etc. Let me know how it goes!
Yes, so that has to be taken into account when setting the ride height. If you raise the ride height the belt/chain gets tighter, or looser if you lower the ride height.
I agree, but also disagree. People have been riding hard tails for a long long time. There's something visceral about a hard tail that makes it so enjoyable to the brain, even if your back hates every second of it.
Have you ridden a hardtail or converted your bike to a hardtail? How did it go?
"Just for the heck of it!" Crazies always get my vote, love it. 👍
Thanks Andrew!
@@RonsWorkshop Sure! Looks like another top job - well done
Great Video Ron! Glad to see your finally back again
Hey Nathan - thanks for the kind words! Lots of good stuff in the works :)
Cool vid! Trying concepts most dont want to stick their neck out for is always fun.
Hey TnHunts - thanks for the kind words! It’s a fun project for sure. I really enjoy the discovery process :)
I appreciate your creativity! Looking forward to the chain conversion video. I have a Vulcan chain conversion kit on my streetbob.

Thanks Greg! Yep…you get it :) it’s an easy and fun project. Let me know if you give it a try.

Hey Greenmachine305 - good input! Thank you.
@@RonsWorkshop I updated. Have a peek.
@@RonsWorkshop I'm enjoying your series of fxbb vids.
Even more useful info. I appreciate the input - thank you!

Btw, I used your guide and vented my trans top for engine breather when I installed my cam. Too soon to tell what’s going into throttle body now.
Hey Danny - I know what you mean about getting just the right ride height! And shocks are indeed surprisingly expensive.
Excellent! Give me an update once you get some miles.

Yeah it was eye-opening! Fun but not the sort of thing I’d want to ride every day.
My back hurts just watching this. My first hard tail was a custom hard tail frame xs650. Fun bike, but not comfortable at all.
Oh how I agree!
And here I am about to drop $1,500. On a set of Ohlins piggy backs for my 08 FATBOB. 70 years old and Louisiana roads keep me away from a hard tail,LOL
Hey Marvin - that’s understandable! It’s quite harsh.
Love this. I want to hard tail my 2020 standard. Any chance I can buy the strut for my bike from you

as you lift the rear end, does the belt/chain get tighter or looser?

Where did you get your bobber seat and install info
Hey William - it’s a Mother Road Customs solo springer. I love the look…the comfort is decent…but I do slide off the back with hard acceleration.
Yes why lol , still running the trans breather
🤣
Glad the transmission top cover vent is working for you. It’s my top pick for sure!
Crossbones seat
I’ll check ‘em out!
It is absurd, it is the most uncomfortable way to ride and have a more insecure motorcycle, the suspension is a safety element.
Hey Dani VS - at this point I don’t disagree! But I enjoyed the experiment and learning process.

I can understand that. The simplicity and road fee are good, but there are tradeoffs for sure.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... NO!!!
🤣
