Outstanding playing and singing! Appreciate that you cleaned up the lyrics a bit from the original -- good to hear an updated version without the problematic bits
Hi, it's quite an outdated song but I've gone to great efforts to clean it up the original words a bit so it can still be enjoyed. If there's something I've missed can you send me an email to discuss it?
@@JonDoran Hi Jon, thanks for your reply! Had another listen and it looks like I misheard your version as the original lyrics I was reading - I can hear what you changed now. Appreciate your effort to clean it up a bit from the original!
Huzzah!! Well played, young sir. I shall be playing this at half speed many times to decode your sparkling runs between chords. I particularly like the liveliness of your playing and the variety you've put in on each verse. Best regards from an old seadog in Key West, Capt. Blackheart Charlie
THE CHARLADIES' BALL VERSE 1 You may talk of your outings, your picnics and parties, Your dinners and dances and hoolies and all But wait till you hear of the gas that we had When we went to the Charladies' Fancy Dress Ball. I was there as Queen Anne and I went with me man. He was dressed as a monkey locked up in a cage. There were pirets and pirots and Hottentots and whatnots And stars you might see on the tv and stage. CHORUS: At the Charladies' Ball people said one and all, "You're the belle of the ball, Mrs. Mulligan." We had one-steps and two-steps and the devil knows what new steps. We swore they would never would be dull again, by dad. There was wine, porter and Jameson. We had cocktails and cocoa and all. We had champagne that night but real pain next morning, The night that we danced at the Charladies' Ball. VERSE 2 We had natives and cowboys that come from Drumcondra, Sweet Francis, Street faries, all diamonds and stars. There was one of the Rooneys like a clock over Mooney's And a telegram boy with a message from Mars. Mary Moore from the Lots was the Queen of the Scots With a crown out of Woolworths, she perched on her dome. There was Jemmy Whitehouse came dressed as a lighthouse And a Camden Street Garbo that should have stayed home. SECOND CHORUS: At the Charladies' Ball people said one and all, "You're the belle of the ball, Mrs. Mulligan." We had one-steps and two-steps and the devil knows what new steps. We swore they would never would be dull again, by dad. There was wine, porter and Jameson. We had cocktails and cocoa and all. We had rumbos and tangos, and half-sets, fandangos, The night that we danced at the Charladies' Ball. VERSE 2 Mary Ellen O'Rourke was the Queen of the Dawn. By one-thirty she looked like a real dirty night. Mick Farren, the bester, came dressed as a jester. He burst his balloon and dropped dead at the fright. Jim Barr came as Bovril, "Stops stressing!" Kept feeling astride from the bottle, pyjamas and all. Then he bumped into Faust, who was gloriously soused And the two of them sunk at the end of the hall. THIRD CHORUS: At the Charladies' Ball people said one and all, "You're the belle of the ball, Mrs. Mulligan." We had one-steps and two-steps and the devil knows what new steps. We swore they would never would be dull again, by dad. We had wine, porter and Jameson. We had cocktails and cocoa and all. We had champagne that night but real pain next morning, And rumbos and tangos, and half-sets, fandangos, And a nice sit-down tea but we fell down to supper The night that we danced at the Charladies' Ball.
Well this is nice but it wasn't what I was looking for It was chosen by Bluetooth and there's no BACK BUTTON! I might want to listen to this sometime but right now I'm just trying to get back to where I was, and it sounds like crap on my tiny little phone speaker anyway. .Not sure why that happened but please turn that off if you can..
This comes up on my UA-cam every now and then. Absolute perfection. Love this so much
That made me smile, an old guy I worked with was retiring and before he left stood up and sang this 😊, that was in Dublin about 40 years ago.
He's an excellent singer, player of guitar, fiddle and bouzouki - and other instruments as well for all I know. How come I've only just heard of him?
Ive only just found you . As a great lover of folk music for over 50 yesrs i must say your singing and your plsying top notch man!!!

I like the anticipation you use for the chorus, really sets up that shifty single note run that comes shortly after. Quite saucy!
Pleasant tone. keep going sir:)
Hi Your song make me nostalgic ❤

Loved it. Sounds a little like something Jethro Tull might would have recorded.

Many thanks for the lyrics.
Some mighty fine mando work here; the moving base notes under the drone of the trebles really brings this tune to life.
This is awesome. Is there a Tab for it? or at least a chord sheet?
Well played
I'm going to say what everybody is thinking. He is cute as hell! And he is a very talented musician. :-)
Least you’re brave enough to say it 😁
very good
Thanks in uk
wow nice
I really enjoyed that! What timing are you using?
Is this the song that inspired Dropkick Murphy's?
Edit: NVM, I was thinking about Black Velvet Band.
Whats the tuning on the Bouzouki?GDAD?
Great! What is the exact type of instrument?
Very long fingers help but great playing regardless. 👏👏👏
May I ask what tuning you use? GDAD or GDAE? Thanks!
What brand of Bouzouki is this? Amazing!
Thanks Alice :) It's a Shippey, made by Paul Shippey near Bristol
Joyful
👏
totally want a Zoom call with you for virtual lessons. Want you at Buffalo Irish Festival.
You are a champiom! really!
