3000 Soda Cans Transformed | THOUSANDS of Them

- I shredded and melted down over 3000 soda cans. I had to go to a very special place to melt these down as it was a MASSIVE amount of aluminum. This took over 3 days to complete.
nice recycling, just one question: why separate the cans to mix them after grinding?
Great question! There was just so many Redbull cans I had to lol
In other words, you have all the time in the world, because that was a very long process.
@@PressTube You should have done something special with them, like cast them into wings, a bull, or something. 100K views vs 1000K views.

just an idea, next time when you dump cans put a layer of sheet so you can pick all of them up at the same time.

Real crime is filling up a RS6 with soda cans
😂 only audi is made to transport garbage😂
Crime? It's a car not a women. It's meant to transport.
I watched a few seconds of this and said to myself: WHY ???? Then moved on with my life.
Courage to transport dirty cans in the Audi RS6 hahahahhahahah
hahaha, anything for a good video
That’s all I kept thinking, not the rs6

Yeah Jesus.
After all-it's just a Audi.
This guys still in the red after spending 25k on those machines
am i? :D Thanks for watching!

In Michigan in the United States, there are recycling machines in nearly every grocery store. When I worked at one of my local stores, I had the task of emptying out the hopper when it got too full. You get a little bit of money for each can returned. So when I read the title of this video, I instinctively thought to myself “Oh cool. He got $300.”
wow u get 10 cents to same im in oreogon and we aolso get 10 cents but we dont need groshre stores we have bottle drop easy fast free
In The Netherlands (where he did the melting proces) there's the same thing. Like 0,10 euro's per can. Unfortunately he lives in Belgium where are no laws about this thing
Poland is not prepared for such rewarding recycling program.
After thinking about it twice… WTF is that margin for a scrap dealer?

🇧🇷 Aqui no Brasil, derretemos as latas sem selecionar, triturar, ou lavar! O forno já é o suficiente para purificar o alumínio!
Do you just sort for steel and aluminium. Or do both get mixed together
Aside from storage and transport, which is understandable, was there a reason to grind the cans to that consistency?
Considering you will get slag regardless, was curious if there were other reasons.
My initial plan was to melt all this is my own crucible which is much smaller then the ones Winteb used.
Fair enough.
But why
I was inspired, what can i say lol

And so eh, what will this be in the near future?
It was too much for my mold so I teamed up with this awesome company nearby :) Next time tho for sure
It would take me 2 days to melt this in my little crucible.
@@PressTube Oh wow, was it that much? And didn't you need to seperate the ferro metal cans from the aluminum metal cans? Or don't they produce ferro metal cans no more?
These were already sorted ;)
@@PressTube Sorted by magnet? What cans are still ferro-metal cans? I remember back in the day that most of the soda pop cans lay on the street that were rusty.

23.4kg for avg aluminium price of £1 per kg, not the best deal for the work - reward ratio. However, for some reason great stuff to watch this process ;D. I am sure you will make up with the views 😉.
Nice video man. The sand casting seemed like it took a lot of effort for the foundry guys, did they want to do it that way for something to film or is that the preferred way when dealing with large amounts of aluminiun?
They normally make vents for the shipping industry, and they use a lot more aluminum for that. But they’ve never made ingots like this before so it was a little thinking of how they gonna do it
Process : First separate the cans for just 10 hours , and then grind the cans and then mix all the grinded can pieces in a minute,, simple..
exactly :)
Aside from showing us how much you like redbull... why separate if they just get mixed after shredding?
I wanted to show how much this fan i picked up the cans from, loved redbull :) Thanks for the comment Jordan!
@@PressTube lol that fan needs to accept sleep as a reality of life, can't fight it forever!
The whole time I was thinking, “cut soda cans are so sharp, I’m glad he wore gloves.” Man this was cool! I wish I had the cool tools to play around with.

In Germany one can is 0,25€. We call it Pfand. So 750€

In Québec, Canada, it's only 0,05$ so 150$ Can. And they wonder why some people still throw them away...

Woohoo! Thank you!
all that for $10 worth of aluminium lol
It’s not the aluminum that is profitable my friend ;)
and a nice video :) What would you like to see next?
I dont have the money to afford one of those industrial shredders, so i took it another route. I reversed engineered a micro shredder to use for those cans. Truly works great, the trick is that the teeth arent as big for obvious reasons, and so i gotta maintain some pressure on the cans so they dont just keep squirming around, which is only an issue when the pile gets low.
shredders hadden weer honger ;-) en hoe zit t met statiegeld daar in België op blikjes?
TANTAAMADA PARA HACER UN LINGOTE Y LUEGO KE?
Why not built a multi-tier grinder? Put the coarsest one on top, and it empties into a medium one, which empties into a finest one on the bottom
interesting :)
Cause, usually on proper scale you separate the size what's grinded before cycling them back ...
You'll use screens n vibrating table for in between ...
But the use the gravity stand a nice process too ...
An open flame is quite better to avoid calcination the impurities ...
It's paint for the larger part ...
But if you don't let it burn, you'll just de-oxidize the elements structure, so it just turn in coal like ...
Maybe if you apply proper pressure you'll create artificial diamonds ...
Sure, lot of things to say bout that fight for oxygen once metal turns liquid ...
Sometimes, quite less ...
I must admit !!!
Dare, care, ride safe, clean, have fun ...

Awful. I dont get why you melted somewhere else. That pour was awful
I appreciate the feedback! Ill consider melting in my workshop next time
Lot 0f effort for not much return fair play though
Wouldn't shredding the cans expose more metal surface area, resulting in more of the aluminium being oxidised than if they were melted whole?
perhaps but melting them whole would have been more complex given the mass and size. At the end it did indeed lose some weight
Don't forget the paint and plastic layer inside the cans that gets burned away

What was the point of any of this? Why bother chopping them up again and again if they all fit in the crucible?
They wouldn’t fit anywhere without chopping up ;) that crucible was like 150L volume, and the cans were near 800L
don't waste it! bring it to Germany. you get a lot of money for the cans.
In the Netherlands you get money for your cans too, 15 eurocent if it have a refund logo on it since 1st april 2023. It is well worth take them while I take the dog out for a walk.
To me all that was to much work to do then carry them and melt them down ( it probably costed t0 melt them down) but thats my opinion, i think it's neat to watch all of the processes though, its very educational 😊😊

As a fellow Audi RS owner I only really noticed one thing in this video :D
Imagine how much pfund in germany this would be...
Very cool to see that there are stil small companies casting things on a "small" scale In europe ( dont know if its in the Nederlands or in belgium). Good video
Thank you, yea there is still a few of us out there

In sweden those cans would give you 150 bucks...
Really...?...I hope those cans were CLEAN...to put them in a RS6 like that is awful...car abuse....rich people have no value for fine cars....its probably a lease and will just turn it back in like nothing.
Turning trash into treasure, so inspiring! 💪🌟
I thought you were gonna do something amazing with the cans Hahahahahaha I wasted muy time xD dislike
Lol some rich guy hauling garbage cans in the back of his Audi. Dumps them on the ground, uses a 8, 000k toy skid steer to pick them up. And then plays with his grinder and furnace.😅
I see at least $200,000 bucks worth of equipment there and many hours of personal time spent to create aluminum bars... You can buy aluminum already made. It's available in many shapes and formulas !!!
Nah. At 20 cents a pound what's the point of spending all that time and money on effort and fancy equipment. With ever thinner grade aluminum cans being
the norm the once 20 (12 fl oz)cans per pound formula has morphed in the formula 33 cans per pound of aluminum. My average is 30 cans per pound because
1/4 of the cans I pick up are larger 16, 19, 23, 24, and 25 (fluid) ounce size cans - which obviously have more aluminum than the 12 ouncers. So, @ 20 cents a
pound 3,000 cans might bring 20.00 from a scrap metal dealer here in Pennsylvania. Published scrap prices (50 to 80 cents a pound for Coke can aluminum)
are nonsense. Scrap dealers are offering 20, 21 cents a pound and maybe slightly higher for larger quantities 150 pounds and over. I have 8,500+ cans weighing
approximately 283 pounds all washed and flattened (by a heavy ram) sitting in my basement. The total is probably worth 70.00 if I'm lucky. Scrap yards
here in the Philadelphia region do NOT pay anything close to nationally posted scrap prices. There are NO "refiners" that will deal directly with small can volumes
from individual scrappers; and recycling centers don't want nor will they pay for ingots of your home melted aluminum stock. Melting them in your home forge
with propane costs waaaaay more than the aluminum is worth. Sell ingots on ebay to craft buyers? Nonsense. You've got 20 dollars worth of coke can aluminum - tops.
The cost of propane, equipment, your time and travel makes shredding and melting into unsalable ingots a fools folly. Nice video however.
Любую задачу можно усложнить. Очень много ненужных и бестолковых операций.
The shredding machines you have are impressive. I think the breakage (and all the dross) shows why people say cans are a bad source for casting aluminum.
i totally agree
When it's free (not so much in this case though!) It's FREE.
If all you're doing is casting plates, rod or disk billets for your own use it's definitely cheaper than buying new ali stock.
Doing all that driving around though will cost a lot these days, (not very green) plus the foundry costs. 🤔🥴🙄
Cans have paint, plastic lining & some iron for the lid opener, so yeah not that easy
It was a good question
Cans also have plastic lining & paint

Your handling the cans way more than you should ...instsad of the loader...set the shredders up next to your car/garage.
Then dump the metal into a container...
Instead of moving everything 3 times..
Too much effort for what its worth 😊
And with just a $50,000 investment in equipment, you too can make a $25 block of aluminum.
Don't get it.
What did you get in return ?
What is your return on terms of time to get your equipment paid off to make a profit here.
I just don't know.

so 3000 cans is 23.5 kg aluminium cast @ Nz$1.30 kg = NZ$30.55 pays for 1 hour work here, you took 3 days
If you look it up aluminium can producers sleeve the cans with plastic to save money on aluminium. That's why all the gross and that's why people say cans aren't a great remelt resource.
Awesome video! Was very entertaining. And damn 51 pounds of melted can.
