matchless made some good-looking bikes, but management was crap. have read one man owned amc, wasn't interested in development, just diverted profits to his private bank account. i'm tempted to say if csr had a second carburetor they would have survived, but it didn't save bsa either. brit industry just couldn't compete with the nips. nothing like total devastation to inspire determination and creativity...
